What's Cookin?

I sometimes order some steaks or meats online......checked tonight for my holiday beef wellington- 4 pieces, 8 oz each, $149 delivered. No thanks, 2 lbs of meat for $75/lb. basically.

I don’t mind giving up beef but I don’t see why they expect to sell it for the same price locally as they get overseas. Australian beef has been reasonable, when on sale great. But we haven’t seen it for sale in a while.

One of my favourite. We sometimes get sliced turkey throughout the year but after thanksgiving or Christmas is usually the best.

I’ve been wanting to try a B.E.L.T. With a slice of turkey this time. Need a way to keep it together better. Toothpicks aren’t the best.

we have it about every six to eight weeks.. they often have sales on the frozen breasts for $1 a pound so like $7 for the breast. i pull off all the skin and cover them in that cajun season and put them on a trivet in a slow cooker with about a cup of water in the bottom and set it on low for twelve hours. comes out perfect every time!!!

there's not much waste at all to them and my chickens love the carcass and i love the extra big eggs they give me the next day!!!!!

we normally break it in half and vacuum seal half of it in the fridge and keep the other half in a quick to open container for leftovers. easily stays fresh for a couple weeks!! turkey and gravy is a year round meal around here!!!!

That looks like something on a sandwich shop menu!!
I had such a huge craving for a BLT last week too. They hit the spot so good!

Funny food story time...I've been gaslighting my wife but it's all on her! She stepped into this but doesn't know it yet hahaha!

So she is always giving me shit about one of my fave meals that disgusts her...I call it "South Korea on a Saturday Night" and it was my fave late night drunken bender meal when I was stationed over there....Double cheese ramen with cayenne, kimchi, and pan fried chicken gizzards drowned in hot wing sauce like Franks or similar.
She makes fun of me and gives me all sorts of shit about it.
Well last week, she dipped into my box of exotic chips. All the weird flavored Lays potato chips. You can't find these in the USA as they're all from Japan, China, or Australia.
So she grabs a bag and pops it open. Goes to town on it with her sammy then closes it up.

I ask if she likes those. Yeah they're really good! I'll eat the rest of the bag tomorrow with lunch!
I go quiet because I know they're a bag from Japan and those are the really weird ones!
So the next day the bag is empty and I verify what she ate and it was what I thought it was...braised duck tongue!!!!hahahahha!!!
She didn't realize the picture on the bag was a duck tongue and musta thought it was art or something.
There were other bags too but now they're gone. The only one she wont open is one that looks like it has a big beetle lobster like critter on it. But as far as the duck, oyster, scallop, and other weird chips, she fucking ate them!!!!
So last night on the way I home at the grocery store I picked up another package of gizzards so the next time I have a South Korea on a Saturday Night and she gives me shit about it, I'm gonna tell her exactly what she ate! ;thup

hahaha this unpacks so many more questions for me!!!!! hahaha

hey i like a good beef tongue dish!! there was a local south american place that had it with an octopus salad on the side and plantains!!! so good!!!

but braised duck tongue?? how is this even possible? i mean how small is the braising pan? drizzle it with a teaspoon? hahaha i mean how?? hahaha it's gotta be tiny!!! lay em in the pan with tweezers? tiny chopstixs? what?? hahaha

okay, and to be fair your wife didn't actually eat duck tongue, it was just some weird guys pallet that said it tasted like that!! she technically just ate flavored potatoes... but we won't tell her that!!!!!! hahahaha

in wuxi china there were chain restaurants called amazon. they'd have a bar, live entertainment, and an all you can eat dinner where they brought different skewers of meat cooked ready to shave off right there at your plate. my hotel was right next door so i got to know the owner pretty good after being there a while. they served beef tongue every night, the entire thing skewed and cooked on a vertical rotisserie to perfection!!

just looked a bit funny with a waiter carrying around the entire thing woven on a skewer with a big knife in the other hand!! hahaha

they had the most amazing spiced chicken hearts there!!!! i had no idea what they were till a couple months later, i never stopped eating them. just said damn didn't think i'd like chicken hearts!! ha!

i've eaten some crazy off the wall things... had blue chicken once.. i have no idea what that even was but it was blue!!!!

Steak Bomb in homemade Italian breadView attachment 120420

looks killer man, i'd destroy that in seconds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First time trying German style pancakes. No idea what a true German pancake is. Just happened across a simple recipe and tried it out. So easy and hard to screw up. Dusting of powdered sugar and some maple syrup made for a tasty breakfast.

Oh fuck me, looks like bread pudding.

That shit is fuckin delicious with a rum sauce.

Reminds me of our panzerotti. 🤤

i bet it's more of a panzerotti than a stromboli.. boli;s normally come with the sauce on the side for dipping, i prefer it baked in!!!!

we only ate half though it was huge!!! i'm gonna have some for lunch tomorrow!!!

Most likely my last halibut fish & chips of 2025.
Jealous fish eater down here. Live halibut, but have never had it fried like that. I usually cod Or whiting for fish and chips down here. And I've never come across anything like the huge fillets I see on some European shows. My culinary haunts down here are coming under short on the fish and chips. I live 'em, but just know I'm missing out. I'd probably catch shit for going to heavy on the malt vinegar, if I ever get my hands on some from a reputable restaurant 🤪

English style fish & ships wrapped in newspaper used to be my favourite. But always halibut if they had it. A few other white fish if they didn’t.

Any time I was in the US for work I’d try to find fish and chips. All I ever found was Cod. It’s gross. Oily and bad texture when they deep fried it.

I’m fussy about my fish & chips. But I’m running out of places. Only two survivors after Covid. Ones bloody expensive but the other is close by and reasonable.

I only use salt but many use vinegar. White or dark. I can use tartar but rarely do unless the fish is crappy. (Yes the pun was intended.)

Haven’t used ketchup since I was 10. Just stopped liking it. 🤷‍♂️

I’m not big on it. But it’s the only dish I go nuts with salt. Tartar is when the fish tastes like crap.
I'm not the biggest fish fan, but Mom was, we had it all the time growing up, one of the perks of living on the coast, so I'd drown it in that stuff! I make my own tartar sauce now because the stuff in the stores is GMO

I've tried it with the vinegar, I like it!
