White Rhino in The Great White North

Well I have these big I think they're 18" × 14" × 3/4" sheets and I had a perfect floor for the 5x5 and the 4x4 made from them

I'm pretty sure they're out in the garage and when I go out to get wood later I'm going to see if I can't find them, that'll give me another layer insulation on the floor. On the roof I now have a blanket, fits perfect too, thanks again for reminding me about that! My memory was never great and it's not getting any better 🤔

Edit: At 10° out, the tents holding at 67.6 / 36%rh 😉
Ya, its funny that we don't think of that when it comes to heating our tents. I've spoken to a few guys growing in garages that say it costs too much to heat in the winter and I suggest either framing in or just insulating the tent and its ;like a light goes off and wtf why didn't I think of that. Believe me I got that from another guy and it was like a head slap when he said insulate I looked left and saw my sleeping bags sitting on a bench, like wtf....lol.....

Like me, I forgot about it till you mention it, then the little light bulb went on💡 I forgot a lot of stuff in the almost 4 years I was away

Anyway it just hit 68°f in tent with lights out, and it's 12° out with 14° for a high so it's going to work, and I can get it to probably 74° tonight at 0° out, with just 400 Watts with the reptile heater and other modifications

You have to watch those reptile heaters they melt anything close, I've 2 of them a 75w and a 150w I'll use 1 or the other or both when real cold in my veg tent. I have a fan dedicated to blowing over the top of them. It doesn't take much of a touch to burn skin. I've hit the back of my hand a few times now and just a touch burns and leaves an ouch mark

I hit my numbers, 68 to 74° is the range I wanted, and I've accomplished it 🥳🍾

Heating with wood is a lot different than setting the thermostat on the oil burner like back in the beach house, took a minute but I've got it dialed in

I'm going to be ordering seeds for my next run soon, I'm entertaining the notion of growing some black thai

✌🏻😉

Even better! And I'm back to 400watts too, added 60 watts of heat, took away 400 watts of power ...don't need 600 watts in a 4x4 tent, its overkill.

Maine has the highest increase in electrical prices in the nation, so if I can save a few watts here and there it don't hurt the home team!

I meant "took away 200 watts of power" not 400

I was vegging with a 74w spiderfarmer SF600 for a few years. it did great, I even used it as an end piece over flowering plants to extend my lights coverage, the buds under it grew as well as any. Its a bit too large length ways to fit in my 3x3 so it sits in a box now but 74w was ample in veg until I needed a larger foot print then I added a 100w burple.

I'm happy with the temperature. When it's 20 below it's going to be a challenge but I have another reptile heater and I'm hoping it won't be that cold that often this year.

These are starting to stink, they have a strong sour smell. I have a new filter, but since heat rises, will I be taking even more heat out of the tent?

I don't absolutely need a filter so maybe I'll hold off, I'll have to think on this one 🤔

My clip fan is dead, the spare I thought worked doesn't. I might have another one or two out in the garage still packed I'll take a look when I get wood later, but I also use an 8-in High Velocity floor fan I've pointed straight up the wall for now that will pull double duty for the time being. New fan coming Tuesday 20251210_071843.jpg

Plants look great.
Fans are one of the weak spots in equipment IMO.
I use Hurricane and only had 1 mishap that was probably my own fault.
None of my fans are little clip ons thought.
Well I have one little Hurricane but I rarely run the tent so don't use it enough to rate it.
It may be 3-4 years old and still working.

Thanks! Interesting you mentioned Hurricane, I was looking through my Amazon orders and I remembered an old hurricane that worked well for a long time, so that's what I bought. I take clip fans apart and clean and oil them once a month, it really helps

I’m trying the table top Woohoo fans this grow. They were fine until just before flip when I had to bump the speed. That had a dozen lowest leaves die/fall off from too much cold air. I turned it back down and trimmed off the lowers and it’s been fine.

It gave me time to dismantle the two clip on fans I had and fix them for backups.

I don't usually use 'bloom' formulas, I've grown many plants with Schultz 20 20 20 and a little Calimagic like the one pictured belowScreenshot_20240603-101154.jpg

I've switched to 'bloom' with a month to go but I'm likely going to go back to the even mix, it's easier for me to mix it and imo I don't really believe there's a need for a 'bloom' mix

Plants don't care if I put in less of this and more of that, the plant is only going to take what it needs regardless what stage of growth it's in, and as long as it's all available the plant is happy.

They really do like this GH trio though, I remember they like it before but I stopped using it because it got pricey. I've been using Masterblend and Schultz 20/20/20 (5lbs. / $16) for the last six, seven years. I use Schultz on the tomatoes too, they love it!

I'll probably go back to the even 'transition to bloom' mix

I use them all, I use GH bloom from the first time I feed through to the last. At 2- 6 weeks into flower I add KoolBloom liquid along with Bloom at week 6 -9 I switch to Koolbloom dry and still add reg Bloom. I've grown without the Koolblooms but I get bigger, harder & tighter buds using them than I did without

I've noticed you have quite an array of products going on! Must be the minimalist in me but I find three ingredients a little much 🤣

I'm trying to decide if I'm coming down with the damn flu or not🤔 I've had a headache since last night.

I have Ivermectin in the house so if I still have the headache tonight I'm going to start a cycle

Just finished clearing the driveway, got to scrape the roof this afternoon so I hope not

Another product I like from GH in soil is Floralicious Plus, a potent little bottle of shit that helps my plants absorb the nutrients we give them. When I switch to the Autopots I switch to Diamond Nectar a cleaner version of the fulvic and humic acids in them that do the job of breaking down the nutes into the ions plants absorb. I noticed an improvement in my plants health & color after I started using the Floralicious Plus at 1ml/gal

What do you think of this product?

I found some in my still-packed boxes, it's very old but I'm sure it's still good.

Its humic and fulvic and several other ingredients, I watered it in once in awhile, maybe a couple times per growScreenshot_20251211_104034_Chrome.jpg

Edit: I just bought this, you guilt me into buying this stuff! Just kidding ✌🏻🤣, I've used it for years!Screenshot_20251211_105212_Chrome.jpg

I don't know anything about your TM7 I've never used anything except GH nutes. I use the Myco's in my veg mix but stopped using it in flower when I go heavier with nutes. Synthetic nutes and organics,ie: microbe's don't coexist with chemical nutes very well.

I'm surprised you stop using it in bloom!? I remember Mykos used to give me big spongy root balls in ffof, I don't specifically remember it in pro-mix

TM7's good stuff👍🏻 out of all the additives, if I could only pick one I would prolly use something like that

Just finished clearing the driveway, scraping the roof and bringing firewood up on the deck. Now I have an Italian bread baking and I'm going to take a nap, & that's it for me for the day 😴💤

Most of that root growth is done in veg, after week 2 in flower root growth can drop by as much as 90% so Myco's in flower isn't needed like it is in veg. Once I go to the large pots I stop using it,so I learned from AI just this year.

You had me up till AI 🤣5bc5a2a808fa85ae941693d7761b66fb.png

Mykos is also for root uptake, don't recall how often I added it, I'll see what it says when it arrives

I use it liberally in my veg mix and I added it to the bottom of my hole when I transplant up. I'd like to see an image like an ants nest on a glass wall with a root system, add this roots do this,,,add another and they do this and so on. As is now its hit and miss but my brain believes everything I add is good. Each item I've added I've seen results but I'm probably adding overlaps I don't really need.....

I watch a lot of video's on youtube, I searched for experienced growers and found and old guy with hundreds of plants and a life of growing behind him a bit upset at the amount of crap we add. He kept enforcing that there's only 3 things we need N,P,K and in flower the middle one goes up. With his hundreds of plants he spends $50/$60 a year on nutrients.......ah...I think I over do it....lol.....

You do seem to add a lot more now than when I ducked out of the internet 5 years ago, but then again I'm a bit of a minimalist so I'm certainly no one to judge you my friend, whatever you're doing is working so keep it up!

I read a bunch of promo stuff on how to grow bigger badder weed and I'm easily swayed to try new stuff if there's a chance it can improve my grows but I stick with all GH brand inputs......I thought it was you back on the farm that said something like "they stick with one company because their stuff is designed to work together and the well paid scientists work hard to give us products to help our plants thrive. Mixing and matching can create imbalances and poor interactions." ...So I took that to heart and stayed with GH inputs...other than Epsom Salts

My soil mixes are a bit different but the minerals I'm adding at pretty inexpensive and will last years using only a tbs at a time. I've been adding some of it to fill an order to get free shipping so a $10-$15 bag of minerals sometimes is all I need

I doubt I ever said that 🤣😂🤣
Sounds more like MiMed, I miss him!

So I've gone back to 10 mL of each of the 3 GH products (GH's 'transition to bloom' ratio), it gives me 1100 PPM which I cut two to one with tap water for 625 PPM which is where I'm currently feeding.

It's much easier, and I mix less than when following GH's recommended 'bloom' ratio.

These are the girls tonight, White Rhino with about a month to go!

20251211_224249.jpg

Time to go water 🫤 I'm trying to psych myself up, maybe I should try to wake myself up first, more coffee please ☕😴

They're looking good I'll try to remember to grab some pictures

Still watering at 650 PPM, not quite time to back off yet.

I just want to brag a little bit on my low, 29% humidity, and why I never have to worry about septoria, wpm and/or any other humidity related issues 😁20251222_071635.jpg...and please, no one mention VPD 🙉

I've been growing almost 20 years and not once have I ever worried about that, or a lot of the other things some growers obsess over. Back in the '80s before the internet we didn't have all that and I for one don't need it now.

I'm not saying what some others do is right or wrong, I'm saying I do it my way, like Frank Sinatra 🥳🍾

Got seeds for the next run today, I don't want to star them much more than 3 weeks ahead of the coming Harvest so I'll give the White Rhino's a sharper look tonight, try to assess when it's going to be ready20251223_145420.jpg

I think I'm close enough that I can start the Purple Chem (purple punch × star dawg) seeds

I think I got three weeks left on the White Rhino's, going to look up when I started them tonight, also whether I'm going to do 4 purple chems or two purple chems and two of something else

I checked them pretty close last night they still have a ways to go.

I can hold seedlings on my propagation mat on the rack for 3 weeks, don't want to go much past that though

☝🏻🙂 flowering started 11/6

Three more weeks will give me about 10 weeks in bloom and that should just about finish them off, although it has been a little colder maybe they're a little behind, I'll look again tonight

Edit: so Greenhouse says 9 weeks and these have been in cooler conditions, so I think it might be a week too early to start the new seeds

White Rhino starting to stink 🦨

May hang a new filter from
i-power, which I had to buy straps for cuz they were missing from the box

So to sum up, i-power sent me a defective filter and two defective HPS bulbs

I will never buy anything from
i-power ever again.

And while we're at it, what the hell?!

20251229_053244.jpg
I've been using the blue one, it's been giving me readings around 1200ppm, it's obviously failed

So I cut my nutrients 2 to 1 as usual which usually gives me about 600-625 PPM, and then tried a couple of other meters...

Another reason I'm getting tired of all this bullshit

20251229_053859.jpg

On the positive I have some nice Bud porn coming up soon 🤩 these White Rhinos are really packing it on, and they're just loaded with big White trichomes!

When I do check I use two meters as well. You never know when one will fail or be defective. Guess a third wouldn’t be a bad idea for when one does fail.
