Zen’s Winter Run 2025

Sometimes when my soil dries out I get run off unless I water painfully slow. I just can't go that slow with numbers.
This is when the saucer / tray earns its money to me.
I just make sure I know how much I am watering and if I get run off 9 out 10 times it is absorbed back out of the tray before I am done doing the room. I haven't needed to use a turkey baster to remove too much water in several grows.
I have to have saucers / trays.
I do that with the plants when smaller, like in the small grow bags. And you’re right the pots suck it back up pretty quick most of the time.

I watered them all to two litres yesterday using the wand. I have it on a fine spray so it takes a few minutes. I kept the nozzle against the inside lip of the pot and just did a ring around the edge. I was expecting runoff but didn’t get any.

With only a few plants I can manage this most of the time. I’m curious what the new saturation point is so will try 2.5L next time. It’s only water, maybe a bit of epsom and/or ProCal if needed.

Hey, I found growing in 3 gal pots I'd use exactly 1 gallon of water per feed/water, in 5 gal pots 1.75 gal that would saturate and give me a small amount to suck up after the pots absorbed what was in the trays they wanted.

Sunflowers indoors?? lol

I found out two things with my 3G soft pots. Wider ones hold water longer than tall ones. And fill them higher than normal as they tend to stretch out and the soil sinks and compresses a fair bit.

I usually only get to use 1.5L before runoff. 2L was a guaranteed runoff. But this new mix is holding 2L without runoff so far. Going by your results I probably can get up to 3L as I don’t add as much stuff to the soil as you do, yet.

Sunflowers indoors?? lol
I’m testing seeds I harvested this fall. Rather than toss the seedlings once popped I figured I’d toss them in the tent. Adds humidity. I’ve used lettuce plants in the past to bump humidity so why not sunflowers?

I use old soil on them and my old Fox Farm nutes. They like 10:5:5 and I have 6:4:4 which is close enough. Lol

I’m drying the last set of mammoth seeds now before testing. They are big but all white and chubby.

I keep getting seedlings growing in my worm bin. Cucumbers and cantaloupe seem to naturally love the castings as-is. I’d plant them if it was spring but I don’t have room to grow that stuff indoors. But I was tempted.

I would have sent you some garden seeds but you don’t seems to grow anything other than cannabis.
