Zen’s Winter Run 2025

What was the fix?
I replaced the receptacle, dry 4 going in now,the old receptacle looks fine, test fine, no smell or soot marks indicating a short. It didn't get damaged or moved...it just failed???? weird but I'm dam glad its finely holding . I've seen receptacles fail in the past but they've been damaged or busted pins, lose wires but just fail???? No bakelite smell, wires were tight I mean wtf...right

I guess potentially a bent or misaligned contact point maybe? Manufacturing defect? Poor connection boosting the amp draw when the dry cycle hits?

Is it on a weird spot to reach where you gotta plug it in kinda blind and give it a good smack? 🤣

It was most likely the original plug, must be 60 years old. It started to blow fuses a few months ago, there were no changes in anything. The dryer was only 2 years old so the plug worked fine for 24 months after plugging in the new dryer then all of a sudden for no apparent reason it starts to fail after about 15 -20 min of using the dryer????...next thing was swapping out the #10

A while back I had a similar issue. Lost an entire leg of a circuit out of nowhere. Turned out to be a failed receptacle that was feeding a branch off the main circuit leg with no visible indication of why it failed. Figured it was probably just its time -- 50 years of service and it silently called it quits.

Was super frustrating for like a week -- sometimes all the lights would work off of that branch, sometimes only one, and sometimes none, then it finally became just none, ever. Originally thought it was the switch being on the fritz (kind of expected in a bathroom, at the moment) but after tracing wires and watching for where voltage stopped flowing, was able to determine it was that receptacle.

Strangest electrical issue we had was losing power intermittently. Wasn’t even the whole house most if the time. After days, weeks actually, of checking things after work I was finally able to figure it out. I was outside sitting on the front stoop on a windy day. I noticed the main line going to our pole was swinging from the wind. When I went back inside the stove and microwave needed the clicks reset. A few other things had lost power while I was outside. The next time we had issues I went outside and watched the line. My wife was watching the stove and microwave. It was real winding with high gusts. Every time it blew hard the wire would rock and my wife would yell it did it again.

Called the hydro company and in minutes they came and had a look. He went up in a cherry picker and found the line was almost off. In fact he said it came off in his hand as soon as he touched it.

They are forever making changes and additions around here and when they moved our line from the Main Street to the side street they must not have clamped it down hard enough. It’s been fine ever since but they still make changes and move things around without a warning or notice.

Glad you got it fixed Pipe. I hope you can do something with the extra dryer. 🤞👊

You know shit happens. Try not to let it get to you. I’ve got my own dryer sitting under a tarp on my basement sidewalk. Needs a belt and new cable. Lightning strike killed the receptacle and cord.

Receptacle was replaced. I took a power cord off my other dryer. But need a belt. Not sure if the dryer even works now that it’s sat outside for a year.

I opened my garage door this am and the cable /chain fell off. no big deal I reattached, now I can't get the fkin thing to close right, I said fk it, came in and now having a few smokes, I'll get out there and see wtf is wrong now. I'm also having some problems getting enough healthy sprouts, 1 seed didn't crack and 2 that are up are deformed, one should make it but the other is sad looking with a single second leaf. I dropped another and have it in towels now

Your in the middle of the last wave of cold and snow we had iirc. I’ve stopped trying to pop seeds before March unless desperate. Clones I can still do, they just take longer if really cold.

Seems you have my luck lately. Sorry bud. Didn’t know it was contagious. 😞
