Zen’s Winter Run 2025

Hey, very nice! Tumbling for about an hour???? in what? Did you make a tumbler? I don't think I've seen that. Have you posted pics of it? I usually just toss my leaves from the first trimming of the larger ones,. I have mailed some to a friend who wanted them for tea but the rest get tossed. If I had a tumbler that might change things up a bit but what I've seen for tumblers online has been too expensive for me. Same as your trim bin, I just can't justify the $100 tax in that they cost.....I need another big casino win for some lose cash. Fkin dryer took care of what I had.
Morning PC.

IDK if I posted any pics but I mentioned last summer/fall that I got a bubble magic tumbler for $380 out the door. Turns out it was a refurbished or used and cleaned up but considering they go for $800 up here I was okay with it. IMG_9229.jpeg

I was using it yesterday. 15 minutes on, 10 minutes off. I got another two grams for a total of 13g. (Total run time was about three hours with the last hour being closer to two 30 minute runs.)

I stopped at that point as I noticed the latest kief has a slight green tint to it so was not as pure.

This was all I used, less than two ounces of trim. Sugar leaves without any buds. (We smoke the larf if it’s nice and these buds dried perfect and popped right off the stem.)IMG_9218.jpeg

Edit: I weighed the trim.IMG_9230.jpegIMG_9231.jpeg

First press with the new aluminum set. 170*f for 15 minutes before squeezing in a vice.IMG_9220.jpeg

Second time I cut the hash block into four, put it back in the press, and heated it in the oven at 180*f for 15 minutes. When I put the press in the vice this time I squished a little too far and had rosin leak out. 79418523921__CB2AACC2-34AD-4923-A6E3-3F449252FC61.jpegIMG_9223.jpeg

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to recover much rosin but I scraped it onto a paper to roll a joint. The hash is all sticky, had to cut it in half to fit my jar. 🤤79418503196__95316C3F-27AF-4849-8335-03628DCA4E9A.jpeg

I’m a little tempted to try flower in it next but I have three plants to trim by the weekend so we’ll see how it goes with just the sugar leaves again.

Ya…the trim bin was a noob purchase I got talked into at the store year one or two. I paid less than sticker price but something like $70 plus tax. It’s a good bin but I think it’s way overpriced for a recycled plastic tub with a screen in the bottom. 🤷‍♂️

I was going to make a tumbler with Stoney’s advice but prices up here were already getting silly so parts were adding up. Then we couldn’t find a drum big enough and my motor might have been too small. Screens were a bit pricey but I believe I did find one on Amazon. So the project sat until I was able to make a deal in-store. (Can’t do that online.)

My sons into bongs. It’s all he uses the last year or two. He picked up a new one yesterday as his GRAV one was a little short, he said.IMG_9222.jpeg

We found out it glows. He didn’t know that when he bought it.IMG_9228.jpeg

I haven’t tried it. I rarely use a bong. Beard and mustache get in the way.

- If you have the parts to build a tumbler I’d recommend it. I wet trim so don’t have a lot of material at the end but still did nicely for three plants. Buying the tumbler was dear but I think worth the price, the pollen press too for $40. No more dicking around boiling water and rolling a bottle across parchment paper. We’re seniors now. Saving $$$ for a while to buy the new toys to make life easier seems worth it now. I had a different perspective not that long ago.

Have a great day bud. 👊

Nice putting the press in the oven.
I have one that I thought I might squish in my Nug Smasher if I ever make hash.
G$ mentioned the press to me a couple years back. At the time it wasn’t worth it for the amount of kief I’d collect.

He uses boiling water to get it up to temperature and I’ve seen him do it in a frying pan.

I have a digital heat gun I almost used but thought there had to be a better way. The oven just seemed quicker and easier. I squished the press by hand before putting in the oven to get the kief down and again once I took it out, walking to the vice in the next room. BTW, rubber surgical gloves over wool/nylon gloves work great as oven mitts for this.

Nug Smasher or other full heated presses are just too much up here. I want one but too many other things I need more. One day maybe.

Now if I could only make a hole in the press to squirt out rosin nicely where I want it I would be set for the occasional dab treat too. 🤣

I think you can use a hair straightener and vise grips.
Vise grips I have. Hair straightener I do not. Wife’s hair is straight. She used to curl it every morning before work but we talked her out of that years ago.

I know water doesn’t affect kief but sounded messy and more involved. The oven is pretty quick and simple. I found 180*f worked best.

The work room with the wooden blocks and vise are right next door.

Not a great setup for mass production but convenient for our needs.

So how would a hair straightener work exactly? I’ve seen one but can’t picture it working with a press just parchment paper.

Final dry weight for Winter Run 2025.

Two Grease Monkey plants = 239g
Two GGB#4 plants = 160g
One GG#4 plant = 109g
One Sherbanger #22 plant = 106g

They are all very frosty but the SB#22 stood out early as the frostiest by far.IMG_9245.jpeg

16 wide mouth jars were needed with only three being partially filled. Burping in the mornings looks like this.🤣IMG_9248.jpeg

I ran out of mason jars so used one of my large containers for the last of the GM. Also gave my son the last of the outside grow Twin 2 so I could reuse the jars.IMG_9250.jpeg

We tried a tiny bit of hash with the rosin scraped onto a paper. A bit of weed was added with it. Wow. An hour later we were all in bed and sleeping by 10pm. 😂IMG_9233.jpeg79423723064__0661725E-C122-487F-B4C1-701DB89BE415.jpeg

Looking forward to trying it all after it’s had time. They all have a heavy aroma but clash when burping the jars.

So this ends the 2025 winter grow thread. I feel things could have gone much better and the weight should have been higher but I mucked up the feeding after week 5. Cut back too soon. I also had a lot of weak thin branches fall over that I should have supported earlier and managed better.

I only have Seeds for the GGB#4 left which is why this spring run I’m growing clones from GG#4 & SB#22.

Thanks for following along. 👊

Good weight to me. I'd take that every grow.
Anything over 4oz per plant of good buds is alright with me.
Maybe slacker standards?

Nice with the rosin on the joint~!
Man I lost a whole summer smoking 2 of those a day at lunch~!;pass
