A Turkey In The Hay 🦃

I got a bunch of different seeds if you want some I can list them.
I mean a bunch of Ethos, DragonsFlame, Anesia,GPS [ that grew well for me], and more.
I got a bunch and will probably never get to them all.
Thank you for the offer, I appreciate it! someone else has mentioned ethnos as a pretty good source for seeds too

At this point I already have a plan for my next two grows, I'm going with White Rhino (I forget who the breeder is) and after that I'm going with swerve's LA Affie, one of my all-time faves, but I'll keep your generous offer in mind!

Big week ahead on the hay farm, I switched firewood vendors because my original wood guy went up $25 a cord more than everyone else

The first two chords from the new guy were great, huge & even had some black cherry wood in there

But the second two chords were garbage, a third of the 2 cord delivery was four to six inch rounds, another third was 8-in logs just split in half which don't fit in my mid-sized wood stove, and the final third was usable

so I've got to split two thirds of two cords this Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday when it's above 40° cuz you're not supposed to run the splitter below 40° unless you put in a thinner oil and I'm retired so I'm not doing that, I just wait for warmer days! 😂🤣😂

Edit: going back to the first wood guy, he may be a little more $ but his firewood is very good quality

My parents have had to change their sources once in a while due to prices and crappy loads.

Just make sure you let them know you’re not happy with the quality, if not with this load then the next that’s bad. Some people will keep giving you crap if they think you don’t know better.

Oh I did...! 😡 and in his defense he said to throw anything I didn't want in the woods and send him a picture and he'd make it up on my next order

but I'm not throwing 2/3 of two chords in the woods, not only is that a lot of unnecessary labor on my part but it's a lot of unnecessary waste, so I bought a splitter and I'm just not going to use him anymore

I was helping a friend cut up a downed tree last spring and she had just received a delivery of some beautiful wood, asked her where she got it and it was from the first guy that I was buying from

So I made the decision then to go back to buying from him, in fact I'll probably be calling him this week to order five cords for May delivery

So I flipped these plants December first (12/1) but they're still not done as of today but two of them are throwing nana's already, so I'm going to get them outta the tent as soon as I can, they'll be fine for hashish

In about 8 hours I start a project out with the firewood which is going to last through Thursday

Then Friday I'll sleep all day and then I'll worry about chopping these come the weekend

Decided to put the hanging basket used to dry them in the bathroom as it's the coldet, most humid room in the house 68° / 30rh, so if I put a humidifier on an ink bird I can control it better in there. I have a couple humidifiers packed away, I'll dig them out over the next few days

Since I have to go up into the loft of the garage to look for the humidifiers maybe I can finally get the Christmas trees put away 😂🤣😂

I got so much wood split that I'll be taking today off to lay on the heating pad 😣 (not joking)

Got at least 3 weeks worth split yesterday, and in 3 weeks the weather will be in the 40s more frequently than now so I'll be able to split a week at a time here and there and won't have to do a big push like yesterday (the hydraulic fluid in the splitter's only supposed to run at temps above 40°)

Fourth year heating with wood and the worst one by far, even worse than the first year when I was learning because so much of this wood has been just too big to fit in my 1.6 cubic foot stove

Not just the size but the big ones don't want to catch on fire, it's been a pain in the ass all year

I've been having to pick and choose splits here and there and I've had a big pile of oversized wood accrued blocking about half the garage which I managed to get split yesterday, but there's still a lot to split stacked outside and still months of cold to go, one year I was burning into JuneIMG_20250225_102712~2.jpg

Oh man I'm jealous, I would love to be cutting my own trees, but just one of those logs would do me in LOL I'm a little long in the tooth for that

I'm buying my wood split, the only reason I'm splitting it now is because 2/3 of the last 2 cord delivery has been too big & some not split at all

Stacking and handling the wood is an amazing fitness program, particularly for someone my age. I've dropped from a 40 to a 36 waist in the few years I've been here

Warms ya up a couple times. I have to go out and get most of mine, I have and will buy it, nothing wrong with it.
Pretty much 8-9 month burn season up here. I feel your pain brother

The Next Set: They seem happy under those led tubes with a total of 44 Watts

Unfortunately the current set, while much cloudier than a week ago still haven't begun to turn Amber

Normally I wait till about 20% Amber to chop

But when I have 10% clear and 10% Amber I'll be satisfied to harvest, so it's going to be another week

I don't bother looking any longer, if they ain't done by 11 weeks fkem, They get chopped and smoked all the same. I used to look for amber and as I see it, it doesn't matter 11 weeks I can't tell the difference, amber, no amber fkit.

I hear you, I'm about at 90 days since flip, so...

Originally I was going to pull 'em this weekend but the new set is doing really well under those cheap little lights, so they can stay there a little longer,

Doesn't have to be next weekend, I might check them mid-week, I'll see how it goes

Quit a blizzard going on right now but not supposed to be more than five or six inches if it changes back and forth to rain a few times like they say, I think it's heading your way

Thank you, it's been a long period of inaction so I expected it, but I did push it a bit yesterday.

Hope you're feeling better from your cold!

Still have about half of this to split (it's 5 stack's deep) 🤦🏻View attachment 91090
I started putting mine inside a fence with pallets on the bottom so i don't have to stack it. Just throw it in and cover it.20250227_111912.jpg

Good idea, I'm going to get me some pallets this year, put like four of them together & get the truck to dump it on them

I like to stack them inside the garage, and being retired now I enjoy that it keeps me busy, I go out with my Irish coffee, some tunes and a joint and make a morning of it! ☕🐸

I knew I liked you both for a reason.
The slacker in this method is strong~! ;roc

I stack it when i bring it inside,I have a room in the basement that holds about 3 truck loads. We just open the basement window and have a meteal shoot we toss it down.i also stack it when it's still in rounds before it's split for long term storage. I'm about 4 years ahead so the stuff I cutt this year will sit covered for 3 years .I split it in the fall before it gets used, it's stored unsplit until then.
I have a big h shaped jig that I load 2 to 4 inch wide branches on too.saves a ton of time.i can cut a 1/2 truck load of small rounds that don't need split in one jig load. The small branch stuff has more btus than the big splitt stuff because of the tighter grain.you have to mix it though ,can't just burn branches.its to hard to start a fire with them.
When I used to split it all by hand we would use a giant tractor tire.throw all the rounds in there facing up.then you can split it all with the maul without bending over and picking the logs back up. A bungie cord works too,but I always cut them. All kinds of ways to save time.20250227_133659.jpg

And if you haven't found the semi truck tarps yet do yourself a favor and get one.you can find them used most times, too expensive new.old billboard material works too almost the same thing. They will be the last tarps you will ever buy.

Harvested my first ever bud here on the hay farm (not counting what I grew outside last year)

I'll have to check when the lights come on, but it's either Onyx Crush or Purple Crash

Hanging near the wood stove to dry it quick for a little sample taste with tomorrow morning's coffee

I'll have to grab my hanging basket and humidifier today, I'm still going with hanging in the small bathroom it's the only place I can climate-control here without getting a smaller tent, which might be what I do anyway going forward IMG_20250301_075831.jpg

-10°f tonight yikes! hopefully this will be the end of the real bitter stuff, we've got a 40 and even a 50° day coming up next week

The wind is killer today, I've been watching ...what's the snow equivalent of dust devils? Snow devils 🤷🏻 flying up and down the hayfield all day

Ha! only -1°f , warm as toast, just more fear porn from the weather bureau, that's all

I'm real close to being in trim jail for the first time since September of 21 😓 just before I moved

It was cold here yesterday at 3c but the wind made it feel like 20 below. It was colder yesterday at 3C than most days at-10C or so it seemed. I'll be glad when all this cold is done. Just another 3 months...I can make it, I can make it, I can make it....ARRRG 3 more Fking Months???? I need a smoke.

It's the wind more than the temperature, the wind is killer! We had a pretty good wind yesterday too

I like all seasons, I do look forward to spring but that means a whole lot of work out in the gardens, so that kind of tempers the anticipation

Plus I also get my firewood delivered in the spring and have to put that away during the same period that I'm trying to put in the gardens 😓😩

I can't believe I'm going to be stuck in trim jail again 🤬 I might look into one of those smaller automatic trimmers (I make mostly hashish now anyway, smoother on the lungs)

that reminds me, I bet that little sample bud that I hung up Saturday might be ready?

When I trim I do about 1 hr sessions, 1 plant then have a few smokes and do another with the music on. I may only do 1 plant a day let the others cook a bit longer. A lot of them have been trimmed down before harvest anyways as I pluck a few here and there. With the Red lights I get a lot of space between segments so they don't get as bushy and the inner large leaves get chopped early. Its still a chore but work work work.....eh

Last time I trimmed was early September of 21, not counting one of those little plants I grew outside last year that I tossed to the deer

I cut it all at once, tore everything down, packed it up, called the realtor and sold the beach house in that same month

Even the deer wouldn't eat the handful of plants I grew out in the garden last year, as they were so heavily treated for mites

I'm going to have a big problem here with hemp russet mites, they are apparently out here in the hay in force

I'm going to have to run a preemptive preventative maintenance schedule 🤦🏻
