Grandpa grow!

the too many bubbles thing kind of blew my mind... i honestly never knew you could have too much air.

Moe had me cut the air in half to test and almost instantly the ph started to swing upwards, added a little more air and hit the steady sweet spot. i was amazed on how fast the air volume change directly affects the ph.

then yeah the non sterile water was a different problem but very similar results. ph diving every day. at first i thought it was the bubbles again but this time it was the rain water. all very humbling and eye opening at the time.

i'm not sure if this means anything or not but when it was my air volume the ph seemed to stay steady for the most of the day and then late in the day it would crash fast. whereas the water problem seemed to lower the ph consistently right from the time i would add ph up. like if i checked it mid day it would be half way to the low spot i would see at night. but when it was the air volume too high the ph would hold steady for like 18-20 hours then lower in the last four hours of the day.

Yeah, I never would have thought too much air would mess with the ph. I don't have h2o2 on hand so I shut off my 2nd air pump that had 2 stones in the res, and now the ph went up today by .2 I'll probably put em back in but dial the pump down to 1/4 - 1/3 of its capability. That'll give me time to get h2o2 while monitoring the ph and have it on hand in case I end up having to go that route as well. Do u recall what strength, like ml/gal to dose w?

Yeah, I believe 3% is what is normally used, just am being lazy and don't want to go to the store today lol My wording wasn't that great, I was wondering about how much of it to use, like how many ml/gal
That part I don't know off the top of my head ... AI says the following ... I would verify it before following it though.
  • Add 2-3 teaspoons (approx. 10-15 mL) per gallon of waterin your nutrient reservoir.

CO2 is far more soluable in water than o2.

You can reach 100% dissolved oxygen pretty easy with current air pumps and stones. If you keep adding bubbles beyond that point it does nothing to help you, and can add to the co2 being forced into the res. Too much of a good thing.

i used 12% because thats what i had on hand. my system is 25 gallons and i added 80ml to reach about 30ppms of h2o2. i bought these strips to test and monitor.. they're a great piece of mind for me.

Moe's the "Mark Watney" of the weed world. Just sciencing the shit out of everything! 😄

Dunno who Mark Watney is, but yes, sciences the shit out of it! Math was more my thing, chemistry not as much. Was moe like a chemist or in the bio field of work?!
Main character of the mars movie where mark gets stuck on mars and has to science the shit out of recycling crap for fertilizer to grow potatoes to stay alive. Has to make water too. Astronaut McGyver. Fun watch

Salutations all! Day 50 into flower
I believe my ph drop has been fixed simply by turning down my air pump that feeds the 2 stones in my res, it stays consistent now...
I have yet to see any other beens than the 2 found on the one plant, so that's 👍
Onto my next fuck up I did :) I was trying to dial in my vpd, and doing so I set my rh to 60-65 last week.. slow growth and slow water/nute intake from the ladies. Yesterday I dropped the rh to 55% and have since noticed a greater intake which makes sense cuz, correct me if I'm wrong, the more humid the air is, the less the plants transpire and the less they need to drink. I should be paying more attention to the rh at this point I imagine. I believe I have 2-3 weeks b4 I chop so I'm assuming it's best to get these ladies drinking/getting nutes to bulk em up2025_06_01_13_02_21_282.png

Your RH reading acts as a throttle so to speak. Drier air means higher transpiration. Wetter air slows it down. Your job is to find the happy point between not enough transpiration and too much. Too high of a transpiration rate can lead to crash and burn if things aren't dialed in well. Too low means slow growth. However, you're at a stage of development where those plants can probably handle a wide open throttle. You should be fine running 50% RH even right now.

As for your trichome pics ... on the first one, I'll be surprised if you go a full 2 weeks longer. I'm seeing enough amber to say you're actually beginning to enter the harvest window. The second picture is a bit behind the first.

The other side of the coin to “bulking them up” with nutes is to starve them in the last couple of weeks. Leads to a fade typically with leaves going red or purple and some would say a better taste. Can change the way it burns and make ash more white too according to some.

I’m in the low middle. I taper off nutes especially anything silica. Sort of a mini flush with 150-200 ppm total.

The plants pretty much have everything they need at this point stored in thier cells. Just need water photons and co2 to finish.

Rh should be lower at this point to discourage mold. Adjust temp to set a VPD but rh 50 would be tfe target at the finish.

Good job

Yeah, I most definitely need to keep the rh down. The exhaust is full speed but seems to only be able to keep the rh to around 55% I was thinking of adding nutes as ppm is at 430, but I will follow ur advice of lowering it. I can either keep diluting it w ro or would u suggest a final water change and just add calmag and trio? Maybe the water change I'm thinking?

first time i saw that i was so into it i actually got mad when his plants froze over.. i actually said MFer out loud at the movie!!

You have a couple weeks. Your call on the res change. If things stay stabile with just adding RO that’s a good option.

Salutations all! Day 56 into flip and am oddly looking forward to start chopping and trimming next week or the week after. I noticed some tacoing on the tallest girl and only the tallest parts so I'm assuming that's from them being soo close to the led. In hindsight, I could've gotten away with a less powerful light. The tall girl seems to only be able to handle the light at 60% and the shorties probably could handle 80% as they r like 24" shorter lol.

It wasn't planned but I should b able to chop em, dry em, and put in jars just a week or two b4 I go to a concert and Rockfest. My next grow I won't start till near the end of July. I imagine for that grow I will have to figure out some sort of cooling down the lung. Gonna do 2 supafreak, a first lady, and fryday boof

Salutations all! Day 64 into flip and no herms and damn close to chop, may chop the dantes today even. The first time I chopped I did a wet trim, may do the opposite this time. How do u all prefer trimming, wet or after dry?

Thanks for looking and as always any suggestions r encouraged!!

I prefer a wet trim but I dry on a shelf. If you hang dry, you might approach the dry a bit differently. What matters more is the drying environment parameters. You can do a rough clean and then hang dry. After dry and cure, you'd use a silicone pastry brush to clean up what you didn't already flake off of them. More important than wet trim vs dry trim is how controlled is your drying environment? It will make more difference in the final quality than wet vs dry trim.

Yeah, I have hanging basket I used the first time. Probably gonna that route again. Basically it's just a personal preference between the 2 and whatever works best for u, gotcha

In my eyes, yes. Although someone else might have another opinion. I'm pleased with my wet trimmed, shelf dried weed. I handle it once and the task is behind me. However, handle it how you prefer. Most important is the drying environment.

Do you dry the trim ,after wet trim, and sift it for hash or just toss it?

Salutations all! Been noticing these the last couple of days only on the tallest plant which the tallest cola is only 12" from the light. Would this b light burn? Found a couple such leaves like 22" from the light as well. I have turned down the light as I'm guessing it's not a nute issue as the other 3 plants r just fine

Salutations all! Day 70 since flip: Friday i started trimming just one Dantes Inferno and couldn't be more pleased by the plant. Yesterday I got into the second DI and then into the largest lady, 1 of 2 of Gorilla Roadkill Skunk, and again, super pleased w what I hope not to mess up in the dry/cure stage. I'm a newb, and even w friends helping, I'll be in jail for a few more days doing 5-6 hrs a day! I'm gonna do a dual harvest on at least the GRS as there are a bunch huge bud sites that were not getting the light and r immature. My next grow w Supafreak, Fryday Boof, and First Lady I hope to get better at lst and lollipop so I don't run into this situation again. I also have found 3 mature beans in the first DI(plant I found 2 immature ones early), and 1 so far into the GRS trim. Gonna have to look into my setup as to how I'm making the ladies want to herm. MiGrampa has suggested that my Mammoth mint 8 led may not be completely shutting off the green diodes on lights off. Super pleased though with how everything has turned out thus far though. I think I'll end up w around 3lbs of 🔥 at the end! Not too bad for my first full 5x5 tent, 4 site grow. Thank you all for all the help and advice through this grow, what an amazing community this is!!

Been trimming since Friday for at least 4hrs a day with at least one friend helping, fuck this jail!! I'm running short on room in my hanging dry basket :( Humidity is being a bitch as well, like 70% Still super pleased w the quantity and overall smell, appearance, and bud size. I may very well have to keep up trimming for some days, especially if I wanna get the most out of this grow and let some huge low bud sites get mature.

Salutations all! Day 5 in jail: Man I gotta get better at this soon! Past 4 days I had at least 1 helper for 3-5 hrs, solo day today. Got a bit to go yet, thankfully my current employer gives us the first week of July off as well as a week for Christmas. At this rate I expect to b trimming for a few more days, and should be able to start curing some of it by this weekend. Found huge bud sites laying down on the buckets so I'll have to figure out how to get those into the current canopy. I really have to get better at having fewer bud sites and evening out my canopy. 20250701_194446.jpg20250701_194449.jpg20250701_194459.jpg20250701_194505.jpg

Didn't realize how strong of a smell my 5x5 gave off. I'm within my legal limit, still smelly in the whole trim/dry time. Oh well.... I'm gonna do what I have to do to cross the finish line. Thousands of dollars for my hydro setup, fuck u if u don't like the smell. Obviously I do try to keep the smell down, I would like to keep my neighbors happy and not complaining. Still gonna do what's best for my grow. Does that make me an asshole neighbor?

just be like "yea i smell it too!! i don't where it's coming from..." hehehe

I'm in a legal home grow state. As long as my grow isn't able to be smelled from the sidewalk, I'm ok with it. It's frequent that when you get close to the front or back door, you can smell it during heavy flowering. I don't have a lot of company ... it's intentional. I'd rather leave my 9mm's hidden than to actually have to address trouble at my door with them over a cannabis grow.

Salutations all! I'm doing multiple harvests, this weekend may b the last(4th?)... maybe lol. I really have to dial in my husbandry and stop dealing w big lower sites that don't c the light for weeks after the initial harvest. I have yet to weigh up what has been jarred yet, but have 10 1/2 gal and 3 1/4 jars with this yet to trim, dry and jar this weekend.
20250801_062539.jpg
The back right gorilla roadkill skunk is still pretty heavy w mature and immature sites... fml, this has been a way too long harvest imo.
I really wanna start my next grow w 2 freaks, a first lady, and a fryday(Triple F Threat?) Probably a few weeks b4 I can get the tent going w those.

Major props out to @MiGrampa for the help, thank you for helping out a stranger in need!

In hindsight, I shouldn't have done this many harvests in 1 grow. Beginning of July was the first, now I'll be doing the 4th. I probably should have done better training and/or just saved the larf and started up w the next batch. What would u all have done? Thanks for looking!
