Thanks for this laugh brother. Got me good this hump day morning and made me smile about how I'll always think of it as the Gulf of Margaritaville no matter what some creepy orange freak man says otherwise.

I always thought Canadian Geese were cool and beautiful mostly because my Mom loved them. We never saw them in Cali but for some reason she loved them. Then when she would travel thru the midwest she'd see them, take pics, and send me the pics so I thought ya know "Cool. Mom got to see her geese!" So I've always had nice thoughts about the geese.

Then I went to Chicago in 2023 and got a very different opinion about them. Apparently they're a nuisance and can be assholes. So our tour guide was pretty much like fuck those dickhead geese because they're a bunch of assholes and they're mean and shit everywhere.
Hearing him, I could only imagine what my Mom woulda been thinking as this guy railed on about her beloved geese.
My mom was all about the Loons for years. Used to see them a lot in Muskoka.

There's something about old ladies and water fowl. Loons, Mallard Ducks, and even pheasants were some of my Mom's other faves.
Grandpa was a duck hunter and made decoys so maybe that's where she got it or maybe it was just a generation type thing?

My wife’s family was into Cardinals. They come around our place often for sunflowers seeds and all the bushes. Wife says it’s the spirits of her passed family. I’m okay with that. Makes her happy.

I'm a cardinal guy too and have had them in my yards for close to 30 years with our habitat. The main reason I grow sunflowers is for them lol.
There is something about them though. No matter what's going on, one visits your window you smile and if you're sad it's gonna have that effect of being a sign from beyond saying hey' it's gonna be okay.

I’m okay with most wildlife. Tree rats are even okay if not on my house or garage. Gives the dog something to chase. 😂

We’ve been here about the same amount of time. Get repeat wildlife each season. Only the mourning doves are gone. Squirrels got them a few years in a row. Assholes.

The geese are really thick around here, now. Almost like cattle. Dozens, sometimes 100+, grazing in fields. I visited a buddy recently and had to wait for bunch to slowly make their way across the road. Not a nuisance for me, but not the uncommon sight it used to be around here. Wish I could train them to target the new cement in the Rose Garden.

Cardinals are popular here, too. I like birds in general, but am almost jealous about the boy birds getting to be the pretty ones. The only thing keeping me from being full on jealous is the thought of a life being pretty, but having to chase around hairy girls and settle down with a bearded wife. Just doesn't do it for me.

3 in the picture but there were more spread all over the field, why do deer lay down in the rain?View attachment 112553
Not sure what happened to that picture, couldn't fix it so I'll post it again

I looked up why they lay down in the rain this is what AI said:

AI Overview
Deer typically lay down in the rain to seek shelter and conserve energy, especially during heavy downpours. Light rain may not significantly affect their behavior, and they might even be more active, but heavy rain prompts them to find cover in denser vegetation or other protected areas. Deer may bed down to stay dry, avoid predators, and wait for the rain to subside before resuming their normal activities.

Apples look great.how do you keep the worms out of them?

The whole crew paraded by this morning single file, must have been seven or eight, at least half were fawns. The last one saw me and stopped and she was doing fake charges and foot stomps, it was awsome!

Nice place to sit and have a coffee while the gang go by. Wood pile looks good too, glad you got it done. 👍

Now we got problems! No idea how she got under the deer netting but she's in my garden, if she gets stuck in there I'm not going in after her!

Edit: good news! she got out, I see how she got in, I didn't have the bottom of the netting attached to the bottom nail

I was yelling out the window 10 ft from her and she does not care! Kept going right in the garden just minding her business, I've walked up on her accidentally before, they don't care they know nothing can mess with them, they're some of the coolest animals going
