A Turkey In The Hay 🦃

Nice cord and a half! Killed one of the new skids though, the other one is under there somewhere

Not as much Hornbeam as the last delivery, lot of Rock Maple, Beech, Birch and Ash

One more cord & a half to go, but not for several weeks.

I've seen it before so I know it's true about deer laying down in the rain, but this morning when I opened the curtains there were four deer laying down in the field and several more a few hundred yards up-field, standing up

They were all looking downhill, right at me too, not sure why that was 🤔

It was too dark to get a picture and I fell back to sleep for an hour or so and they were gone when I woke up but I did see them; they look funny laying down too! Like big rabbits

Noticed I hadn't tarped-up the new wood and supposed to start raining any minute so I went out about a half an hour before sunrise to get it done and walked almost right into deer on the other side of the garage!

Happens once in awhile, once I went around the corner of the garage and was within 12 - 15 ft of a big son of a gun 😳, I usually just wave to them and keep going but that time I was really close, I froze then backed around the corner and got the hell out of there!

Hear turkeys in the east field behind the tree line just gobbling up a storm!

Finally saw one that look like a traditional turkey with the feathers all flared out and all about 2-3 weeks ago🦃, up until that point they didn't look very 'Thanksgiving-ish'IMG_20241012_173706.jpg

Update:

A little small, but topped twice

If I want these finished by the end of June I'm going to have to flip them like now or the 20th the latest

I think I'll turn it to 16 hours of light to start them slowly towards flowering and then flip them to 12/12 on the 20th

Little light green at 450 PPM, next watering they're going up to 600IMG_20250415_090659~2.jpg

Tree across the road, just happened. I called the volunteer fire department, they came out & made the calls to the power company

They said it's going to be tricky, need at least two lift trucks to get it down. They said the power company might send out the tree crew they use

Sure hope it doesn't slip further because it'll take out that pole but I'm more worried about people driving underneath it cuz it's pretty damn big!

First tick of the year today so there's something else I have to watch out for
🕷️🪓😡

won't be long till the tiny black flies are around, I call them mayflies cuz they're here in May till the first part of June but I don't know what they're really called

Stacking a new way now, going to be quicker & easier for me, I'll add up to 6 skids total (if needed) then build more stacks on the other end like bookends

Eventually I'll throw a tarp over the top of it and that plus the three 18' x 5' ft rows I have in the garage will be enough seasoned wood for next winterIMG_20250423_112026_01.jpg

😂🤣😂 thanks but half the time I'm out there swearing at my wood, I don't need to swear at anyone else's! 😂🤣😂

If you'd ever like a quick but enjoyable read I found this book interesting, although I didn't get my new stacking idea out of it

It is, it's about building one of those round wood piles and you build the roof out of wood too, I thought I'd give it a try, but once I saw how involved it was it became just another interesting read 😂🤣😂View attachment 98420
Idk...is that a circle the wagons thing? Could be they just light it up??
Idk how you stack it bud...😋

Ah fk I should go find a weedeater or powersaw or something..👀out...

Sitting at the bar by the back window yesterday afternoon when I heard a buzzing noise, looked over and three or four huge arcs of fire shot up in the air about one second apart as my electricity strobed and then went out

called the town's volunteer fire department, no one answered ...welcome to Maine 🤦🏻

4 hours later they had it cut up, the road cleared & power restored

So we continue forward, through the fog

Is this the time to say I told you so?
Monday noted , Thursday down, Friday cleaned up and repaired hopefully.
Good week.
As much as Maine is lacking in certain infrastructure services the CMP electric crews are amazing! 🏆

I did expect it to eventually come down, but my main concern was that it would fall on a passing vehicle because there was very little holding it up, but nobody seemed to care

Update:

Just finished feeding and everything is looking good this far into the stretch, I'm still feeding basic Masterblend formula at 600ppm which I'll slowly start changing towards a flowering mix

Two seem to be stretching, I'm guessing they're the 2 Kush but I didn't notice the label on the pots

The other two might need to be put up on something to lift them up a bit if the stretching gets out of hand

First night with no fire since October 28th mainly because I fell asleep right after dinner and didn't get one built but it's going to rain all weekend so I'll light one tonight

Going up on the roof today to take a look down the chimney now that it's out, neighbor was up there late February, he cleaned & adjusted the cap for me, said it looked good but I'll check it today anyway

Upper 30's° out, turned the propane up a little, temperature in the house is 68 to 70, and in the tent it's 74°

Edit: looking at the pic I realized I haven't put the HPS bulb in yet 💡👈🏻😂 I'll get it changed tonight

Why fix it before it becomes a problem, right? 🤦

I can't believe they just left something that dangerous! 😡

Say what you want about Massachusetts (and there's a lot to say about it) but in no Massachusetts city that I've lived in would they have left a tree dangling across a road like that
My mom was driving down the dump road. A large branch dropped. On her hood and window. Almost went into the cab. She watches now.

I can understand waiting until the next morning to get a crew in to deal with it. But not more than 24hrs after it was called in. Even just blocking the road at night could be enough to kill some one.

Four murders in my general area in less than a month

One in my town, elderly woman, no arrests

police say 'no known threat to the public' but they give no other information

A lot of folks think there's a serial killer in the area

"Rainey Street Ripper" is apparently a serial killer living in my city whacking young fellas and dumping them in the river.
However, Rainey St. is a bar scene and what's fantasized about to be a serial killer by online sleuths and what not, are drunk dudes getting too close to the edge of the water to pee, falling in, and unable to beat the current so they drown.
About every other day it seem there's also a report of a homeless person killing another homeless person.
Usually we hit around 75 homicides per year. Road rage, domestic violence, and homeless on fenty or whatever else they shoot up seem to always be the issue

i'm not sure what the murder rate is in my general area, but i know the po dunk town i live in last had one about twelve years ago. none that i can remember since. 1/2 hour away and i bet there was one last week! and less than an hour from philly and i bet there was one an hour ago.. sad!

Very few people here, very uncharacteristic of this area.

I thought I left that stuff back in Boston!

I had heard about a fight at a bar and one person was charged with the murder I think maybe even convicted, but then somehow they found out that that's exactly what happened to the dead guy, he wandered away fell in a river and drowned. I bet that happens a lot more than people think, I fell in a river once camping in New Hampshire so it does happen, it's easy to do on a few brews
