CannaGranny’s Corner a Thread For General BS and Good Will On BudBuilders

Hey all, End of June - thankfully. June is a horrible month for me.

The 3rd week of june could just disappear and I’d be okay.

On other subjects, weather is weird this year. Usually, by April we have overnight temps in the upper 60s or low 70s. Sometimes even much warmer. Yesterdays morning low was 55! At least today it’s 59 (but still dopping, probably be 57 by sunup.

I know there is an El Nino out there waiting to whollop the west coast and the southern states, but that’s for fall and winter. Normally, a lead up to El Nino is a hot year, Europe knows, but California just goes it’s own way! We get up into the upper 80s and low 90s but I don’t think we’ve had 100 yet this year, or if so, only once or twice not an entire season or two.

I hope everyone’s July is pleasant, everyone weed grows huge and smelly!

Let the games begin!

Or, if they already began, let them end!
Got very close to frost the last two days. We're way too far south for that, but every year there seems to be a chill in early July. This year it was early, but we had 60 degree nights in the middle of winter, all winter, then a chilly spring, and NO rain. We rarely get 60 degree nights in the middle of summer due to altitude. Cannabis is one of the few things that likes our climate. Not looking forward to El Nino. It gets squeezed out on us and it gets scary. We lost a bunch of land one year. Luckily, the state was burying lines and needed a place to dump the dirt and rock so they rebuilt it for us where the creek took it away.

there ain't no way i could ever do what Steamroller does, not with heat or skill!!!

Waiting for Canada Post is such a waste of time, tracking sucks. At least Amazon gives you an ETA and warnings.

Nice day but the humidity keeps creeping up. Walked the dog around 8am, sun was already making an appearance through the clouds.

Saw what I hope was Venus in the north west sky last night on the way home. It was sunset 9:38pm iirc and it was brighter than the sun to the right of it at sunset. No other stars were out in any direction. Was cool to see. A plain leaving Person airport was also in that part of the sky, lower , and I could see the difference and Venus didn’t move.

Up until June 2026 I’d only ever gotten one thing from Amazon for free. A LUX meter that was supposed to come in a hard plastic case. The vendor gave us a song and dance so we contacted Amazon customer support and they agreed things were not as advertised so we got a refund and we’re told to keep it.

Fast forward to June of this year and my son and I have a new shared hobby in Billiards/pool we started in March. After months of playing we started getting new beginner equipment. With all the local stores being gone we went to Amazon again.

It seems a lot of things aren’t being made well or shipped properly as they arrive with defects. Strangely they have decided to let us keep the defective items and refund the money rather than replace them?

So to date we’ve gotten to keep for this new hobby: Three practice/training cue balls, a three piece jump/break cue, two piece carbon cue, black 8 ball set, and something else I can’t recall at the moment. All items were either fixed fairly easily or just had minor cosmetic issues that could be lived with. (The balls had minor cosmetic marks or a small scratch. The break cue had the Bakelite tip pop off but I have proper glue to fix it after cleaning.)

So we ended up getting $500 worth of equipment for nothing. This can’t be a normal thing? Regardless we’re happy and enjoying a new old hobby and putting our savings into playing.

Might be time to buy a lottery ticket. 🤔

It's common. That stuff has $500 value to you but has negative value and actually costs everybody more for them to take it back so it's best to let you keep it.
There's a lot of stuff they'll let you keep it if you file a return. Depends on it's original packaging a lot of times.
I was allowed to keep a spool of filament once because I didn't like the color.
If they let me keep clothes that fit weird then I donate them and same for my wife's stuff she orders but can't use and they don't take back.
Food stuff also has a high rate of being allowed to keep but you cannot abuse this. Like Costco, take advantage of a very lax and ez return policy and eventually they will ban you so for something like no-salt taco seasoning I got free once, I'm not going to push it for more free seasoning

There's also amazon return stores that sell the things we return but don't go back to a warehouse or delivered to another customer.
Return stores open Thursday thru Sunday if there's one near you.
Best stuff and highest prices are on Thursday then inventory and prices drop each day until Sunday where it either sells or goes to a landfill

Amazon does not pay the vendors when this happens.
They have a whole speal on how this improves everything with the possible exception of customers ever getting to speak with the vendor about the 'defect' and the loss of revenue for the seller.

With the training/practice cue balls and the black 8 ball set out of 19 balls only 3 had no major blemishes, scratches or nicks. Quality was horrible. But for free they are playable. We asked for replacements as I always select ones that have return, replace or refund. They just said to order again and keep the damaged ones.

The break/jump cue was just the glue failing, which happens, after one night of playing. Bakelite tips are just hard plastic. In this case they used too little glue. Again just asked for a replacement but they said keep it.

The last one makes no sense to me. We ordered two cues one was the wrong colour so we just asked to have it replaced. The new one was sent but they didn’t give me a QR code this time. The sent a postal return slip. After trying to get it printed at the post office or Staples without success, and not having a working PC and printer, we called Amazon for a QR code. Woman said it was a real hassle and since we’ve never had issues before we can keep this cue for free too. Brand new still in the box just the wrong colour. 😳

I’m happy to use the damaged balls and appreciate the savings but the cue just blew my mind. $310 free because making a QR code was a hassle. 🤷‍♂️

How’s that fair in the case of the cue?

For the damaged items I don’t have much sympathy as they weren’t described as booboos or slightly damaged and they were full price not discounted. Stuff like that doesn’t happen when you can shop in store. My guess is that the vendor is trying to sell off the QC failed stock with the hope people will live with it but that’s just a guess.

Regardless for never having this sort of thing happen before to get these many things free was both unexpected and strange to me.
