Does anyone else use bennies before the res change?

I'm using TPS Billions and mfg recommends to use it before a res change, i run it for 30 minutes before change. Funny, i swear this recommendation wasn't there 2 years ago and this was something i did off experience because of how potent the product is to minimize bacteria blooms even at the smallest doses.

Curious if this is common or unique with this product.

Sorry, I haven’t used bennies since I was a teenager. 😝

Use the product for just 30 minutes before change/ then discard?
I am not sure I would be following those directions unless the addition is like a 'flush'.

Nothing to do with a flush just all it needs to work, i think it's wild how this is what I was doing before the manufacturer changed the recommendation because this is what works from experience. They don't even say 30 minutes, they're saying immediately dump it, the 30 minutes is my own addition from what works, and how long it takes me to make nutes, waiting on silica, etc... lol

For real it works miracles, sounds wonky, but it def works with predictable results this way.

Makes about a much sense as above i know

should have taken pictures more for if anyone else is in the same boat,

but this is what happened over the past week

i got to check the EC/pH monitor/controller, and notice the EC rising by 100-200, i'm like wtf...
I know the top off is more diluted than what is in the system at res change, confused, i decide to add another 4 gallons of 0 ppm water to the top off res.
Next day, i check, and still the EC is high....
i'm like WTF?!?!?
I notice that the top off is still full at a time when they should be drinking at least 2-3 gallons a day.

finally, I check under the hood...
DAMN TOPOFF FLOAT VALVE IS CLOGGED!!!

I pull the line out of the top off res, blow in like a whore lol, and I see it's running again

I check 2 hours later, and the system is topped off and at the right level. cool

two days later same shit as above, so immediately i look and AGAIN the float top off valve is clogged.

I pull out of the system and see it flowing like a mo-fo, so wtf, it's the actual valve.

I take it apart and to the sink

I soak in some alcohol and rinse, and still not happy with it. I notice that while this takes a 1/4" line, there is only a pin sized hole for the water to flow through when open, not even big enough for a toothpick i tried to stick through to see if clogged.

this is where i would have taken a picture for other DIY enthusiasts (probably everyone here) like myself

I break out the man drill and open that fucking hole up to almost the full 1/4"
I check and the valve still seals when in the up position.

I reinstall it and now she flowing good! damn good! and checked later and 100% stopped when it should.
mystery/problem solved!
this was also right around when i noticed some funny leaves on one plant, i believe this was because of the lack of fresh/top off water, water was very low those 2 days, less than 1/2" above the pumps... real low. so thats why the EC shot up and i think the solution got a little toxic which caused the deficiencies. at least that's what i believe lol

Good catch and fix. Looks like you'd need almost sterile water for a pinhole to suffice. I wonder if there was a specialized use the valve was designed for, or are they all made like that?

Maybe i bought the wrong float valve, it did say it was made for RO water now that i think about it. It takes the standard 1/4" hardline that RO systems use. No issue the first run, which was when i was only topping off with RO water, oh man that hindsight about knocked me over just hit me so hard lol

But with this easy DIY mod now the entire 1/4" is wide open and shouldn't be an issue again

I should defoilate more, but I'm having zero humidity issues,
And to me she looks like a healthy bitch, dehumidifier connected to tent sensor.

330 watts standard lighting, plus supplemental UVB 20 minutes on 20 off (cycles), and deep/far red 40 minutes on each end of the light cycle with 15 minutes overlapping with regular lights on each end.

A lot of lighting for a 2x4 and i think they could take more lol they are praying non stop

Sons got all the switch and Steamdeck stuff but I’m into that pie man. Looks great! Chicken or Turkey?

He still wears the giraffe hat you sent daily btw. πŸ‘

I made my own thickener this time instead of using the canned cream of mushroom soup. I used fresh mushrooms, butter, and a lot of flour, worked perfectly!!

I also like to add potato which isn't a normal for pot pie.

And the "chicken" is a mycellium based vegetarian "meat" no soy

I'm the only vegetarian weirdo on here i think πŸ˜‚ but that's fine with me, my wife eats meat, no pun intended lol
