Took me a while too. We bought some as well as starting by seed. Took a month before I got the swing of it.
I did learn a few tricks from you I can use. The Bokashi soil mixed with some compost and manure. Then I mix it half and half with the old soil. Testing it out this year with all the sunflowers. Want to do it with all the vegetable soil next year.

It’s taking a while but I’ll get there.

Nice..nice... loads of stuff..good stuff...

Looks like your on a hill? Can almost see the veiw...

Nice outdoor space!

Neat. Do you like the flavor of the Dragon's Tongues??

I went with some old standbys: Burpee's Burpless (least productive but largest variety for me), Straight Eight and Tendergreen. My wife likes the tiny varieties (like3"-4") that are good to snack on skin and all. I need to find a good variety for that, next year. I had hoped the Tendergreen are would fit the bill, but are bigger than I was looking for. Still a good cucumber, though.

I also sampled some sashimi cucumbers grown at the local nursery. Medium to large size, smooth skin and small seed pocket. I liked that one and am considering planting some next year.

Ya I like them.they are crunchy with no seeds until they get huge. Great for pickles.

Your vegetable all look great. You've got a green thumb, for sure. I'm jealous of the onions. I haven't done great with spring onions, but I haven't fertilized them right and am usually getting sets out. I might try planting a short day variety, soon.

Ha! That sunflower is a beast.

Nice haul on cucumbers. I just effed up a bunch of mine. I put them in a mini fridge over night. The little fridge usually just has drinks in. Turns out it was too cold and froze the cucumbers.

Keep them frozen, use them for smoothies. Or make viniger.

I have found with the onions the biggest ones are the ones growing on the top of the soil, like 3/4 sticking out.only my second year growing them.

I’ve yet to try them. As a kid I remember a batch I was helping to harvest. Soft and/or rotting in the ground. Don’t remember why but probably too wet.

I tried green onions this year but none popped. Old seeds but most likely my fault.

Look forward to your pics. 👍

I will takeing new indigenous micro organisms collections this week.gota week off for fish camp.im gona hit the forest tonight and tomorrow to set traps. I will try to journal it .

I start with rice cooked with not enough water.1 cup rice 3/4 cup water, times however much you need to fill trap containers .its about half the normal water than you would use to eat.you want it not to stick together and have air between the kernels.20250912_110322.jpg

I just use cheap baskets from the second hand store.fill.2/3 the top 1/3 space is important.the microbes will create thier own little atmosphere of communication in the top1/3 empty space.cover with breathable cloth and rubber band.

Thanks for the lessons. I will be tuning in to see results. I badly want this for my garden.
Right on good to have ya.when I get my collections i will show you guys how to breed them and evolve them in to super heros in low temp piles.for those of you that have the store bought microbes you can build the piles from them ,make them better and save some money.

Looking forward to it. I’ve still got some forest earth in a tote. I’ve sprayed it two or three times to keep it a bit damp.

I haven’t done the rice basket yet but it’s on the list. I noticed you didn’t dig a hole or bury it like others. You find just sitting it on top of a cleared area is good enough? I’ve got a crate I can use as a cage but no basket…keeping an eye open but things like small peach baskets are all replaced with plastic or coated cardboard.

Looking forward to seeing how this turns out. 🍿

I have better results getting fungal collections when I put it on top of the soil and dont disturb the mycelium connections
. Below soil collections always gives me Bacterial collections.not the microbes I'm looking for.im not sure if its lack of air flow or moisture but they never turn out good when I bury them.

I’ll try this method then. Trying to dig into that old forest roots was a pita. Took forever to fill the shopping bag with dirt. Lol

I was wondering if I could use the forest earth I brought home to do this rice method? Or have I changed things by digging it up and bringing it home? I haven’t seen any insects in the earth but that doesn’t mean they aren’t there.

That was the first video I watched. I asked you a few questions based on it before I went to get the forest earth. I don’t have enough soil in the tote to do that which was why I was wondering if your method would work in the tote.

Something I could test over the winter I guess. Hard parts finding space to do it in the house.
