so two nights ago turned up the lights 10%, i noticed the soil plants doing the light lean so i put them to 50%. and last night i ran that 1/4" line from my ice maker filter and plumbed it in.

it puts out about a half a gallon per minute. pressure is way to low for RO so i 100% need a booster pump.. takes an RO system from $100 to $250. this water is 40PPM and ph 5.0 from the line. i expect the 40ppm to be mostly iron and calcium. (assuming)

so last night i drained about half the water in the rez and added in the rest with this water. it brought my ppms from 320 down to 160, today the ph actually rose a bit and did not sink like it's been doing... so that falls in line with the textbooks.

but call me crazy or maybe just wishful thinking but to me they seem to look a little better today?

the first night it did go up, i tool it as a good sign. it was qt like 6.1 and i overdid the down and took it down to 5.7 an then today 24 hrs later and it was 5.5. i put 6ml of up in and haven't checked it yet.

They do look a lot better for sure!

the tip burn on the left plant started three days ago and hasn't gotten any worse since. so thats the first time that happened. before once they started there was no recovery.

i think i'll let these grow out one more node and everything still looks okay i'll do the clean/refill/transplant. i'm looking forward to that part!! i'll try the new water line with the athena balance. the soil plants a little bit bigger than these but i think i should keep the EC around same like under 200ppm.

i was messing with that doser code and i think i actually figured it out!!!

i kept trying to make a target of 5.8 and kept getting errors, so i gave it an upper limit and a lower limit..



and then the code to tell that whet to do is no longer erroring out!!!



i gotta double check my timing numbers on the pump run amount, i can't remember how long it took to add 1ml of liquid. i have it written down somewhere. then just wire it up and give it a test!!!! but the compiling of the code shows no errors at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if it works it should check the ph and if it's high it will add 1ml of down then wait twenty minutes and check it again.. same with the up, if the ph is low it will add 1ml of up and then wait twenty minutes and check again.

oh damn i didn't know that man, i don't have any schooling for it, I'm just winging it and using google searches to fumble through it.

i understand a little bit, like what the different areas of the code are for and the layout, but the actual language or things needed to perform functions is where i'm a total noob.

Might want to make the lower limit lower so they aren't fighting each other while the dose settles, and/or increase the wait before it checks the other direction delay(1200) , just a thought, or it could be a tug of war within that 1200 millisecond delay before it checks if the ph is too low

so another couple days and still have some growth.... some burns too though.. but no more of those curls on the leaves anymore. makes me wonder if these minor burns are something else and part of my learning curve.

the color is very similar from the soil plants.. thats improvement right there alone. in the past they were always pale and kinda yellow,



the lower growth on the left plant is even starting to grow.. and it's growing more than three nodes!!






the soil plants are starting to get even more antsy than i am. they really need a new home. i'm gonna have to either make the switch soon or upcan them. i'd rather not upcan because it would just make it that much harder to transplant into hydro. so i might make the switch in the next couple days.

i have a barrel of the filtered well water ready to go whenever i am!!

the diamonds come from a buddy of mine, his family has a big grow up in maine and a local place to them does the extraction. they never sent it out to a lab but i bet it upwards of 98% or higher.. i've been mixing it with my rosin and gives it an xtra kick!! hehe

the seeds i'm not proud to say are just a re-gift from Grump!! hehe i know, dick move but i'm only being honest. doh!

so my code mod didn't work.. it still delayed the entire code and not that section. i was thinking maybe i need to move the delay up inside the { } of the IF command? and maybe put a delay under each one? and i'm talking about the 2400000ms delay. the 1000ms delay is just the amount of time my pump runs to dispense 1ml of liquid.

but what i really want is for it to only look at the IF commands once every 40 minutes or so.. (to start anyway.. i can fine tune once i figure out how to make it work) and i want it to look at the rest of the code all the time. does that make sense? it's possible right? not like i'm asking for something that can't be done?

hey i am spotting a few things that would be easier to show with copy/paste code instead of me sending a million pictures with arrows.

first thing is why is this call at the end of the function?
doesn't make a lot of sense to read the temperature here and then lose the data at line 96 with the "}" meaning once this is called the data is then lost. it also looks like there are few global variables, or variables initiated outside of this code block. I would need to see those too to fully understand the entire code. Lines 65-67 seem to be logic to check if 1 second has passed, but everytime this loop runs the timepoint is being reset in line 65, meaning only if 1 second has passed from the time it took the cpu to process line 66 to 67 might never happen therefore that entire if() block might never run. it is only measuring if one second has passed in 2 lines of code which is done in under 1 millisecond on any modern computer. most CPUs can run trillions of processes a second, if the device is very slow this might work, though it is very "iffy". The solution to this would be to have the timepoint outside of this block of code meaning it can retain it's value in between loop calls.
therefore if that if() code doesn't run then all of the follow code from 80-89 doesn't have the new temperature and ph values because it didn't run.
then like i was saying lines 93-94 do nothing but get data and then discard it, because it is at the end of the loop() and these are static variables not global, meaning they are initialized (line 94) then discarded from the memory stack at the end of the loop in line 96.

i don't want to bore everyone to death, but prob be best to help you in a private chat, send me the raw data in text format, and outline any changes you made after you got the code will help me to analyze any flaws in the logic much faster.

ohhh i love this stuff lol, i'm sure this is a headache to most people but i love it!
this isn't anything too crazy, now trying to design 3d shapes in a 2d world using antiquated Open GL, that was a nightmare for me in school. if you don't perfectly connect your shapes in an imaginary 3d space, nothing will be filled correctly with the colors, the shading won't work, etc...

just to give an idea, just to make a simple 3d pyramid rotate in 3d space was a few thousand lines of code... a lot of is boilerplate stuff like standard code to setup this 3d world, but that didn't make the thing any easier lol

i just realized it prob came off in a bad way when i said comp science major, but it was a humble flex for someone who didn't get a degree until after 40 and has been in and out of jail more than once, and had to work his way up the ladder from the manufacturing floor due to my age and lack of experience in the field i love but was too much of a rebel or dumbass to ever pursue while younger

Edit: also almost got expelled in high school for crafting a home made virus i called the "Viral Messiah" (my anarchy days) that corrupted the entire school network of data 1 week before report card release. no one caught it, printed the report cards, nothing was right, and then took 3-4 weeks for reentering the data after they got the system back up. OOOPS lol. i made it at home and wanted to test it on a system not connected to me. didn't think about when i ran it on the teachers computer he had full access to the network so the thing just spread like crazy! thankfully my computer science teacher in high school (first year it was started was when i was in, 1997) vouched for me to the principal saying he didn't mean anything malicious, this kid has a bright future and is crazy smart. this was after my teacher tried to call me out in front of the class for using copied source code from the internet to make a complex program he thought was out of my realm. back then i didn't comment anything, so he started to drill me asking me what does line XXX do what does line YYY do, and my answers were so fast and detailed he on the spot apologized and didn't know what else to say but give me access to his computer anytime i wanted and all of the developer tools to install at home for free back when this stuff was a few hundered dollars just to compile anything. that was how i made the virus.... lol

man i'd love the help. i'm 100% all self taught so far and have been just copy and paste to get things to work.

so the simple reason on why its in that order is it's because thats the order i got the parts in. Moe sent me a goodie box with all kinds of parts in it to reflect a few projects we've discussed and i just started messing with it all... the first thing i had was the mega and a screen, so i made an intro splash screen. then i got the ph sensor from dfrobot and pasted their code in place under that. then i got the temp probe from them and did the same thing. then once i started testing it i realized it was only in celsius so i googled how to make it in F and most results pointed towards the dallas temp so i put that on at the end. then i started making the dosing lines and just added those onto the end. and thats exactly how i got to where i am now.

we'll take it offline and i'll send ya what i have and we can go through it. i really appreciate the help man!!!!

washed em off and slid the roots through the best i could....



i topped them both right away and tore the bandaid off all at once... they're pretty shook up.. i cut the light back a little and will give them a while to recover.

man i'd love the help. i'm 100% all self taught so far and have been just copy and paste to get things to work.

so the simple reason on why its in that order is it's because thats the order i got the parts in. Moe sent me a goodie box with all kinds of parts in it to reflect a few projects we've discussed and i just started messing with it all... the first thing i had was the mega and a screen, so i made an intro splash screen. then i got the ph sensor from dfrobot and pasted their code in place under that. then i got the temp probe from them and did the same thing. then once i started testing it i realized it was only in celsius so i googled how to make it in F and most results pointed towards the dallas temp so i put that on at the end. then i started making the dosing lines and just added those onto the end. and thats exactly how i got to where i am now.

we'll take it offline and i'll send ya what i have and we can go through it. i really appreciate the help man!!!!

when I was on that keto diet a few years back, I bought a box of those atkins sugar free bars. this is my current recipe... and i added some enzymes just a few minutes ago.



i was aiming for 190ppm but the added ppm from the balance hit me unexpected and i didn't reduce anything else.
@GrumpAzz , when you add balance to RO water does the ppm rise a little? i'm just wondering if maybe what i was seeing was the mystery nutes in my water being participated out.

Yessir. I'd have to find some notes but, off the top of my head, 250-300 ml adds about 50-80ppm to 50 gallons of RO.

It's not a hell of a lot and I'd say what you got there is pretty much in line with what I get out of it. I just use a bit more to get up into the 9s.

thanks man, good to know you see the same thing. not sure if this is the balance but i also noticed the solution looked a little cloudy at first, a day later and it was clear.

still looking okay today.. ph and ppm are the same, no change. we're having another heat wave late in summer here and my water temps are up slightly again but it won't last long. and i also have some better insulation coming tomorrow so i'll put that on and should help a little. i can see some new root growth on each one so they haven't quit on me...

I can't say for sure, but I've seen it cloud up slightly as I added it. Almost a milky color that dissipates quickly. That doesn't happen ever time, though, so I don't know what to say about it. I've assumed that's the silica before it dilutes down. Haven't had it last though.

my water temps have been spiking through the roof again!!! this damn heat, i've never had i summer like this in over twenty years. i'm just not prepared for it. i think i have a handle on it for now though. the past three of four days were around 76° though!!

so i put some new insulation on the buckets and pipes... no more pink panther, still got the pink panther ring tone on my phone though hahaha (just happens to be coincidence!!)



i also forgo to mention a couple days ago i added 25ml of rapid start... i saw roots forming so i figured they would benefit from it...



the brown roots are all thats left of the original soil roots i pulled through the net cup to start. the rapid start lowered my ph a little then i overshot the raise so now i'm at 5.9. i just left it there for now.

i can really see full advantage of starting from clones even more now. not just for uniformity but wow established plants really take off quick!!

Thanks man, things are still growing okay, they have a little ugly from the transplant but the newest growth seems to look good so onwards and upwards!!!!!

temps are still a degree or two higher than what i want but with cooler nights now i should be fine but i will need a chiller by next june.

i'm really liking the roots man, i now am just seeing the power of rdwc, it's a day and night difference in growth compared to what i was seeing before. man i swear i can almost hear the roots growing right now!!! hahahaha

so a couple days in and the ph was diving deep again. i checked my air bubbles and no way it could be them so i looked into the solution more and found a reddit post from somebody that seemed to have the same results i was with it and she said listed part of a chart that said if the EC was over 1.4 then lower it. but if it was under 1.0ec then raise it.. this was the first time i ever heard this advice and she explained her details and it sounded very similar to mine so i checked and saw my ec was only 0.4. so two days ago i raised it to 1.1 and the h has been solid again. i think these established plants were eating way more than i anticipated and ate most of the good stuff the first few days then started to lighten up and look funny.

they seem to be liking the increased nutes... the roots just won't quit.. the right plant has better looking roots though. i topped both plants whe i first put them in. two days ago i topped those tops at the second node as per Granny law. so they must be growing because both of those branches are new and onto the third and fourth node already. well till i cut them off anyway! hehe

i also defoled some of the bigger thicker leaves in way, it opened up the side branching a lot better so i'm glad i did that. i'm kinda shocked that they grew this much in just a week, i thought they'd be shaking it off for at least that long. i haven't been watching the water level too closely right now with putting in ice packs every eight hours it looks fuller than what it is. maybe only a day or two of ice packs and i should be good to go. with no ice i'm sitting at 72F so not as bad as it was last week. maybe the heat helped the bennies and got the roots growing so well.

EC and ph started to dive again so i brought it back up to 1.1 went another 20ppm and sitting at 530ppm total right now. i didn't have to raise the ph though, a couple hours of the richer solution and it came up to 5.8 all on it's own... clickin i guess!!!!!

turned the lights up to 50% a few days ago too.. running about 400 watts on them now.

gotta be growing two or three inches a day on the roots, i can see the soil stains come out in like rings. every once in a while i'll see a piece of perlite a few inches down in the nest and knew it wasn't there the day before!
