Zen’s Winter Run 2025

I need a soup run, I could use a month or 2 of nothing but soup & steak, drops weight fast and you can eat as much as you want of it, Fridays were steak day and I could eat as much steak as I wanted, no soup unless I wanted it but after 6 days of soup steaks were great...Now there's a Pizza or 2 /week and that tips the scale in the wrong direction.

I can’t even look at meat right now. It’s also the first time in many years my wife did tho shopping on a Saturday morning. I’m sure when it’s over I’ll be famished. 🤞

Hope you guys feel better soon.my family is just getting over the same thing.🤢plants look gorgeous.

I meant to text you last week, just haven’t even up to it. Thought I beat the bug Friday but Saturday was a nightmare. My nose was a waterfall. Where is it all coming from. 🤷‍♂️😂

Thanks bud, it’s tricky but I’m getting there with the natural and knf methods. Week 4-5 is usually where I find out if I screwed up or not.

The GM leaves look better this morning. Stripes are gone but the blade edges are still lighter in colour. Lights out in a few hours so we’ll see tonight.View attachment 118968View attachment 118969

Got to pull back on the GGB#4, one of them is getting too much.View attachment 118970

Didn’t have this issue with the outdoor grow but I think it’s almost corrected. Patients is the hard part, no quick fixes with this method.
Hi Zen, how can i help ya?

EDIT: this was in November, im late lol.

Fed the plants 1/3 4:4:4 and 2/3 2:8:4 with the added extra nutrients like Azomite mostly in TSP a few in TBSP.

Some small and large lower fan leaves are yellowing and falling off.

They dried out a day earlier than normal so they are drinking. Gave them another 2.5L tap water. Rain waters done until spring.

Lights still doing dawn to dusk at 70% but with the plants sitting at almost 4’ I’m hoping stretch ends this weekend and I can raise the light the last few inches that remain.

If I can I’d like to make a wormcastings tea. Heads pounding so it might have to wait. I just think they need a bit more N.

They are all trimmed pretty good with air getting around them. The front GGB#4 is about 6” shorter so it looks bushier than it is.

Like Bandit I watch the temperature above all else. It’s been as low as 20* and as high as 31* but that’s only for a 30 minute window when the lights come on and I haven’t opened the door yet. Most of the time it’s at 25* lights on and 21* lights off.

The odd leaf here and there shows leaf burn were I didn’t raise the light quite quick enough. But they are slowing their stretch. The buds are looking big and fluffy.

This is week three after flip so it’s going well. Only concern is the fading lowers. The fan and/or cold air blowing around the pots might be adding to it. 🤷‍♂️

Some of my measuring devices. IMG_8149.jpeg

Don’t use the syringes as much now with the dry nutrients. The little scoops that come with some of the powders are handy too. But I should get dollar store cooking spoons to cover the smaller amounts that occasionally are needed.

Feeling really bad this morning. Probably the price of taking Tylenol yesterday and being up all night. So now I’ll need to more of the hated crap to be functional today.

Yes I know Tylenol is bad but so is having a head full of snot under pressure. At least it gets rid of the headache now and let’s me breathe. Otherwise I won’t make it to the basement today.

I don't get sick often so when I do I am like a baby.
I take tylenol Thera flu packets in hot tea and then take tylenol and whatever is in the theraflu.
I double dose and it usually helps me.
I can't say I have taken anything else in decades.
Hope you get to feeling better man.

Plants look outstanding Zen and the dudes always make me chuckle.
Hope you feel better soon man.
IDK if it helps but in Texas there's two remedies for everything depending on what it is...
Tussin or rub some dirt on it.
Pretty self explanatory as to which is for what. ;smoke

Most leaves are at 9 points but a few are at 11. But I still think the fans are making the leaves drop off early at the bottom. A few drop green while others shrivel. IMG_8255.jpeg

I usually try to have little to no runoff but will salt buildup be an issue? Outside got rain and runoff so I’m not sure with dry nutrients.

Lights been raised with only an inch or two space left. Still at 70%.

I open the tents door most of the way or all the way for lights on. Helps control the temperature and humidity and lets me look them over when I walk through the grow room. Sometimes it’s nice to just sit and stare for a bit. 🤣

Can’t believe it’s almost Christmas. 😳

Three weeks after flip and it’s getting frosty.

IMG_8269.jpeg

So much weather change in a 12hr period. IMG_8239.jpegIMG_8264.jpeg

Raining since early morning. High winds and colder temperatures later on. Snow and ice are in the near future. Snows gone except where we shovelled.

IMG_8271.jpeg

Cold and damp but no snow today. I’ll take it.

Still dropping green leaves. AI says I’m right about the intake fan and Woohoo fan blowing cold air around the lowers. I’d turn off the intake fan but it lowers the temperature and humidity especially. IMG_8333.jpeg

The GGB#4 has a little genetic drift. On a bunch of leaves this little thumb sticks out. IMG_8341.jpeg

IMG_8339.jpeg

A lot of 11 fingered leaves thought. IMG_8338.jpeg

Nothing special yet, things are stinky, but my nose has been stuffed for a week or more. Family assured me they do stink. 🤣

Lights out in 5 minutes. IMG_8336.jpeg

Dehumidifier fan died. I broke it down hoping it was old enough to have bearings I could oil but I can’t get the blade off without destroying the rubber mounting washer/adapter. (The fan blade has a square hole, the adapter makes it go on a round shaft.)

A bit of 3-1 oil had it working for an extra two days but now it stops minutes after it gets hot. No more small engine/motor repair shops left after Covid. Looks like I’ll be taking some advice and checking Salvation Army stores for a used one.

This one was made in Canada at least 45+ years ago. I fixed it when I was about 15. It’s been used to dry rooms after floods or leaking washing machines by the family for years. Doesn’t owe us that’s for sure.

IMG_8380.jpeg

IMG_8379.jpeg

IMG_8384.jpeg

We lost the extra heat the dehumidifier was giving us while it lowered humidity. This is going to be a problem. I’ll have to do a major trimming tonight at lights on.

Sons printer broke down the same night. He printed a figurine for me at 75% and it hasn’t worked properly since. I had one left to go.

IMG_8373.jpeg

@Bandit420 my son said to let you know you might want to keep these replacement parts handy. They are cheap but are known to wear. We’ve had the printer over a year now.IMG_8376.jpegIMG_8374.jpeg

They feed the filament through. He thinks it’s not coming fast enough and the head is going to low to the board. It’s causing the print head to drag through the project ruining it and making a mess.

Always something. 🤷‍♂️

Trimmed them back to improve humidity now that the dehumidifier cacked. GGB#4 is really frosting up the fan leaves.IMG_8407.jpegIMG_8406.jpeg

Tent doors open, one room door open to help with humidity. Lights on.IMG_8416.jpeg

Almost forgot, sons replacement parts arrived. Might be able to print tomorrow. 🤞IMG_8403.jpeg

Merry Christmas everyone 🎄

Humidity is way to high, temperatures can get a little low, during lights out. Lights on is spot on. I should be getting a new 50pint/24L dehumidifier on January 12th.

Lights out.

So far the ladies are still looking good. The leaves aren’t falling as badly as they were. I added 10ml per 7L water of Sensi Cal Mag Extra which is 4:0:0 to the last two waterings.IMG_8441.jpeg

The bottoms are lollipopped but the tops are filling in nicely. With just over a month to go I’m hopeful but that’s going to depend on the environment the next two weeks.

Lots of personal BS to deal with this week. Everything was closed down since the 23rd/24th. A few are opening today or the 2nd.

Weather warnings are continuing the next couple days. We got snow, then wet snow, and finally just rain. However that started to freeze not long after. Now what’s left of the snow is compacted and ice topped. Lots of accidents and cars spinning out yesterday.

Someone got a few new toys over Christmas, this one seems to be her favourite. She carries it around or if she forgot she will come back for it and then leave with it again.IMG_8424.jpeg

If the salt/fertilizer amount is about "on-point, then having little to-none run off is not an issue.

20260101: GM & GGB#4 T-36

Did a top dress for them last night then watered it in. Gave them just tap water at 3.75L each so I could check for runoff. Unfortunately the results were all over. Partly from trays a little dirty and partly because I don’t normally water to runoff with dry nutes. I’ll do it again in a few days where the results should be more accurate.

Tap water base line:
PH 6.1-6.3 & PPM 155-158

Runoff:
Pot 1: PH 6.0-6.1 & PPM 620-640
Pot 2: PH 5.90-5.95 & PPM 920-940
Pot 3: PH 5.85-5.93 & PPM 720-725

IMG_8481.jpeg

Based on the amount of soil in each 3 gallon pot I’ve been trying reduced amounts to avoid salt build up. I also noticed the GGB#4 up front is much greener but has less buds but just as frosty if not more so. I assume it’s from the extra distance from the light. The other two are much closer and are working much harder.

1 TSP - 2:8:4
1 TSP - Azomite
.50 TSP - Gypsum
.15 TSP - Mykos
2 TBSP - 2:0:0 Worm Castings
1 TBSP - Crushed Biochar

I’ve been doing this since I up potted before flip with all the nutrients. Once or twice a month I’ve added 10ml per 7L water Sensi Cal Mag Extra 4:0:0.

So far it’s been working okay. But I’m surprised the relatively small difference in light distance has had such an impact in bud formation and leaf colors.

So I’ll continue doing things this way using AI to check my math and ideas until I see a problem.

Humidity at lights out is my big problem ATM. Temperature is within an acceptable range. The new dehumidifier should be available for pickup on the 12th.

Lights out.

Lights on.
IMG_8483.jpeg

I’m still working on the timing and amounts but the dry nutrients are working well. The only PITA is top dressing every two weeks. I scratch up the top 1” or so and scoop it into a can to mix with the dry powders.

IMG_8495.jpeg

Lots of new small roots each time I do it so it’s working.IMG_8496.jpeg

Each pot gets the same treatment and amount.IMG_8497.jpeg

I hate experimenting with new good seeds but so far it’s looking good. The GM is getting too heavy and is a bit lanky. I’ve got hooks and yo-yos but I’d rather not until I have too. I have at least two more feedings to go before harvest and I take them out for that.

IMG_8509.jpegIMG_8510.jpeg

That’s it for another two weeks other than watering. I might add a bit of Sensi Cal Mag Extra 4:0:0 if I see too much yellow but that’s all.

I hope everyone has a good start to the new year.

do a lite defoliation/ on the bottom fan leafs/ any fans shadowing lower budsites?
If you look at the pic with the red cop of dry nutes you’ll see a clear bad full of trimmed leaves bottom left.

Some here take all/mist fan leaves. Others take little to none.

I always have trouble identifying which branches won’t make it to the canopy so correct every time I pull one out. Also remove the new growth that’s too low from the light. I try to leave the top 18” alone.

Packing three plants this big in the 3x3 doesn’t help. Two would be better. I get greedy and try to keep to many branches going.

IMG_8501.jpeg

It’s getting there. This was halfway through trimming and before I watered.

I really like your little spacer on the temp/rH probe.
The Dixie cup size guard for the probe? I got tired of moving the probe every other day as leaves grew into it. This solved that. Lol

Unfortunately the cup doesn’t stay on very securely. It hasn’t fallen off yet but it needs an elastic or something to keep it in place. Right now it’s just squished into a keyhole type hole that pinches the sides to stay in place.

i usually do it in thirds, removing the bottom 1/3rd of the plant

The back GGB#4 & GM are still a shade yellow so I added 10ml per 7L of Sensi Cal Mag Extra 4:0:0. The front GGB#4 is like a different plant. I left a few big fan leaves on it and it’s further from the light but it’s a perfect green.IMG_8534.jpegIMG_8535.jpeg

IMG_8539.jpeg

Lights out gets to 18* & up to 70%RH! I need that dehumidifier but it’s not available until the 12th.

I decided to water again to a bit of runoff so each plant got 3.75L water with Cal Mag.

Tap water: PH 6.10-6.20 & 152-154PPM
Tap with Cal Mag: PH 5.95 & 425PPM

Pot 1: PH 5.85 & 869PPM
Pot 2: PH 6.29 & 939PPM
Pot 3: PH 5.90 & 885PPM

Not sure how the PPM is so high with the small amounts of nutrients I’ve been adding? Even the Cal Mag seems high with just 1.50 ml per litre.

One pots on a riser but the other two are in just the saucer. I’ve removed past runoff but haven’t cleaned the saucers, can’t really manage that with the plants so far along.

I’m only feed small amounts every 15 days approximately so I’m at a loss why PPM is so high.

Other than flushing until the PPM drops I’m not sure how to fix that. Going to keep an eye on them and ride this out until next watering.

On a side note I’ve been testing the watering spray wand the last two times I’ve charged it over night. I’m getting about 63 litres per charge with the last 30 minutes going from 3 lights fully charged to no power at all. Not sure if that’s good or bad but it’s about 10 waterings.

The biggest change the wand makes is an even and slower watering. Previously I’d water in 500ml to 1000ml at a time in a flood and wait style. The pots seem to hold more water with the slower wand watering.

The cayenne pepper tree is holding on, barely. It’s not watered often and the room it’s in is usually around 18-20*c.IMG_8524.jpeg

So starts another week and the family vacations are over. Mail should start arriving again and businesses open and answering calls once more.

Enjoy your day people’s. 👊

If you have some of your original soil left you should pour some plain water through it and see what the ppm of the run off is.
Plain water through my Stonington comes out well over 1,000.
The high number is from the soil not nutes.
This is why I never check run off and why most using soil don't bother.
Even with a baseline the value will change as the soil wears out its reserves.

Thanks Steam. I don’t have any of the soil left. 90% sure it was the last of the SSM#4. I rarely check runoff, it’s usually the water and nute mix I check before watering but with dry nutes I’m not sure how to go about things. The yellowing and fading of the larger two plants is what I’m trying to figure out.

I think the worst that will happen is I’ll lose most of the leaves by harvest on one or both back plants. I really need to flip sooner but just can’t seem to do it before they get too big.

The best looking plant up front has the highest numbers so I’m not overly concerned. Just want to dial things in and get a handle on these dry nutes.
