I’m so tired. The roof leaked in both bedrooms and then later at the chimney again. Roofer came Sunday to look things over. Can’t do anything about the chimney until snow and ice are gone but he thinks the peaked roof is fixed. I think the ridge cap isn’t right and any snow/ice or rain blowing sideways is getting in and melting later to leak.

The dehumidifier is setup and being tested today. The old one was faster and held more water but this is a 50 pint/24 litre model. Guessing that’s about volume it can collect in a set time period and not how much the little bucket holds.

At one point yesterday afternoon it pissed all over the carpet floor. Not sure why but probably I hit the wrong button or maybe the pump button? We’ll see how todays test goes now that it’s setup. I put a try under the pumps hose port JIC.

When I bought my 50 pint it said it has a pump, I thought that meant it would pump all the water out. No just whats in the holding tank and the tank still needs dumping occasionally ...sigh.....I too had water all over my floor after a night the little pump light was on and I didn't notice. So I still have to manually dump a 3 gal water jug once or twice a day.

Roof leaks suck and can be expensive to repair or redo, I can't imagine what a new roof would cost us, more than we have I know that.

I still haven't got my dryer working, I keep making fixes and blowing fuses after about 20 min, it doesn't make sense. There is no added load I have everything but the dryer shut off and it still blows a fuse. I may have to call in some help, fk there goes another few hundred$$ just to have someone show up.....

No, my 3#10 runs from the panel to the outlet with no breaks, none of the conductors are grounded all test good, Voltage is right. The top 2 fuses ( green) I moved the #10's from the fuse block below the ones they are in now thinking it may be a problem with the fuse block, one side still blows after changing location. All wires are tight.

They may not be grounded/shorted until enough amperage is being pushed through the lines. It's not directly shorted, but if the insulation is fucked in some spot, it could jump the gap when the load is increased. That's why I asked about a megger and not just a standard multimeter.

Its solid wire, and should be no reason for a resistance to build or wire to fail over 25-30ft. I've rung a megger in the past, we used to use them in the ship yard with stranded wires. Fun to give buddy's a blast with. I thought maybe the connectors at either end were crimping the wires but they aren't all that tight. It is the old clothe lumex/romex not plastic but solid wires with no breaks, no splices. I can see it all from panel to going through upstairs to the dryer. 30 amp is quite a load, I should see hot spots or smell something, I've pulled the receptacle and tested it, its good, no lose wires, no smell, no arcing, If I thought it was the wire I could easily swap it out but another couple hundred on a hope?. I'm thinking now my panel is fked, a poor connection between fuse and the bar, although its tight and this just started a few months ago.

I could buy a new 100amp service and swap it out too I may have to do that, add a few junction boxes to help with short wires but I could do it hot, without too much trouble, I'd have to do that in the summer though It would take me a day or two to complete it. I used to be able to swap them out in a few hours when I was all set up to do it. It might fk with my insurance though as I'm not really allowed to do that...I just keep sighing and hissing about it because I should have it figured out by now.

I need to find a short 25/30 ft length.....2 or 3 /14 as a test run. With the 2 /14 I could still just use the ground for neutral...temporarily just to see if it is the wire...it doesn't really need a ground to run. I did notice the box the receptacle is in in not grounded. I normally wrap the ground around a screw in the box then pig tail to the receptacle.

I don't think the wires have ever been overloaded, the dryers don't draw enough, we've been here 30 years and this is pissing me off.

I’ll have to catch up on these last posts later. Family is sick still/again and the new dehumidifier has a crack in the bucket and leaked the last two days. Need to buy another to swap buckets then return one.

Then I get to argue with the gas company Ombudsman supervisor about wrong estimates that were changed on our bills which they say are correct even though I have photos of the meter each month or two. I hate what this greedy slimy worlds become.

Anyone know if this motor can be fixed? My small engine/motor repair guy closed do to Covid. I’m 90% sure the old bearings are shot. The shaft over heats and the fan stops turning.

I still have a alternator guy a few blocks away, I think. Aren’t they close enough that he might have the parts to repair it? New things just aren’t made to last and only work half as well. If reasonable I’d like to get the motor fixed or replaced to deal with big jobs and use the new dehumidifier for day to day, once I get the new bucket.

I can’t remove the fan as the rubber washer that holds it on basically has dried out and bonded to the shaft. It makes a square hole in the fan attach to a round shaft. If I try to take it off if will destroy the rubber and I’ll be screwed.

This is a deal with it later project I’m just wondering if anyone else has knowledge or experience with this.

I was an electrical estimator not an electrician. I can fix most things with common sense and access to parts but this goes way back. Pretty sure I’m out of luck finding 45 year old parts.

Yes and no. It has a hose clamp on it to hold it in place. But it’s the old rubber. It’s hard now and bonded to the metal shaft. When I get a few things off my plate I’ll remove the motor and open it up. Pretty sure I’ll need to remove the fan before it can come apart but I’ll worry about that later.

I was able to get there at 7am this morning and told them I’ll either buy the other unit and return it after I swap the tub/bucket or you can let me swap it without the added work. They let me swap it but took my receipt and noted it as a return. So far so good. We’ll see by this afternoon.

The new ones are quieter but take all day to do what the old one would do in a couple hours. I want to keep the old one as it’s all metal and made to last. I just clean it yearly or as I see dog hair and dust collect on the back. No filter on it. I’m willing to bet it’s just an original sealed baring. Not sure if it’s repairable or I need a new motor.

It was mostly used for drying rooms out after a flood. The family used to pass it around over the years as needed. I’m the last.

The aluminum fan has a square hole rather than round. I’m guessing this rubber acted like a torque dampener. Never seen one before. I’ll take pics later when I get time. A quick check has me thinking the fan needs to come off so the top of the motor casing can slide off. Not sure ATM.

IDK if they make a filament that can handle the heat, cold, and torque? I’d also need a computer to try and make one. I’d most likely grind a flat spot and try a set screw to hold it if it comes down to it.

Yes but it is a penetrating oil and will lubricate the shaft to help it spin.There are better penetrating oils but WD is usually handy, we all have a can or 2 around.....Don't we?

Sons better, wife’s miserable, and I’m just behind my wife a few days with this cold or bug. It’s like a sinus head cold with a chest cold added. Pain in parts of your limbs. Like arthritis or cramps in your extremities.

I was able to swap the dehumidifier tub/bucket at the store. Just by asking.

Testing the last day and a half has been great.

Still need to hang two pictures and do a final dusting and vacuuming but over all we are all happy with the rearrangement. Impressive since all three of us are sick.

Well it seems I can sleep for 3hrs, then up for 2 ad repeat.

So up at midnight and clones that needed trimming and water were taken care of. Water with a little 4:4:4.

Rooms all done with final dusting and vacuuming remaining. I’d like to say all the totes are organized but let’s just say they are off to a good start. I plan to use the cart to hold plants for trimming and such with the most often tools needed/used underneath. (I know, good luck with that.)









The plants are looking good and bulking up.

The new tub/bucket I swapped yesterday morning. Since then the dehumidifier has been working great. Fast enough I’ve dumped the bucket twice in 12hrs.

Nice to see things in a good place.

Okay enough on this. Rooms done. Back to it being all about the plants.

My helper is so tired. She has to follow me even if I’m up and down all night.

I hate when you break down and buy new only to find out that wasn’t the problem.

You ruled out the appliance being the issue and you know you have power.

That leaves the line, any junctions, boxes or panels.

I think you said it’s a straight run so either the wire/insulation, connections on either end or the panel. The fuse box is old. Can you kill the main to it so you can check the fuse block where it connects to the bus? Might have a short or be worn after all these years?

Feel your pain bud. Hope you find it soon. This weather we have is heading your way. You’re going to need a working dryer.

Yes, I’ve always got one or two dabs kicking around. Usually to free old/rusty nuts or hinges.

I’ll open up the motor later this month when I’m feeling better. Finding the refurbished 50 pint dehumidifier was almost perfect timing now that the ribs been replaced.

The old ones great and fast and all metal. If I can find the motor online I’ll see about that. My last parts store seems to carry a replacement motor that will work but not the same shaft connection.

GrumpAss was right that Amazon has options but $100+ is a last option.

Agreed. Just different shaft connections. That stupid rubber fan blade connector must act like a clutch or something. Not sure. Might just have been cheaper than using a metal one.

Fed all the plants and watered it in. Trimmed a few more dead end branches. A few are real limp and thin so S hooks and yoyos were used. Any that had good size buds were saved.

Family has been in bed trying to sleep whenever possible. Heading to work today.

Dehumidifier is making a big difference compared to the couple of weeks without one.

Looking after the plants while sick sucked. Skipped one day so they got watered late. More than once I wasn’t sure if it was day or night. Lol

Tried to mail a package to the states Saturday. Seems the rules got changed in August. Now you need to DL an app that you need CC to use and pay a fee even if it’s still considered a duty free gift package. They give you a code that the post office now requires before they will ship to the US. Without this code they won’t take it.



We don’t use credit cards so I’m not sure how to proceed. Need to find a real post office rather than the drugstore one. Most have been gone for years.

I can also see if COD is still an option since there shouldn’t be any duty even after all the new changes.

Not liking this new world order.

Humidity is killing me. Lights on we are golden. But lights out it can get to 17* and 70%RH. Four more days before I can buy the new humidifier.

I’ve got to call the PO and see what’s what. What my options are. Just think this border BS is making things worse for average people.

I don’t want/need an app knowing anymore of my business or who I associate with. Data has been the gold of the rich since banks and credit were invented.

It’s just adding to the time and hassle of trying to send a few friends a few silly stocking stuffers.

I’d rather they look in the box, see what’s being sent, and then either pass it or charge me for it right then and there.

Love the games, the series is just meh to me so far, haven't even started season 2 yet.

I don’t mind it. It’s following the game pretty well. I like the actors from other things they’ve done in the past which helps. I enjoy seeing the old style new tech. Reminds me of things in the 70’s and the promise of jet packs and flying cars. Things like refrigerators and stoves having wings and chrome like the family car.

At one time our schools had duck and cover drills just like fire drills. Posters on the walls and short movies they’d play on projectors. Because we all know school desks were nuke proof protection.

20260121: GM & GGB#4 T-16

Still testing the dehumidifier. The swing from warm temps to cold has lowered the RH daily. I’ve set it up so the pump kicks on to drain the tub into a large 5-6 gallon jug. Over the last two days it’s filled the internal tub 2/3’s so I expect it should kick on tonight before lights on.

This should stop any auto shutoff. It will also show me that the pump works without any leaks.

Buds are still beefing up. I can’t remove the plants anymore as the branches fall over with their own weight.





After a chat with AI it’s believed I can go to a real post office and get them to make the ID and check the items for any possible duty.

Most real post offices are either gone or turned into sorting and holding areas. I did find one that’s less than 30 minutes away but I’ll be waiting for a little warmer temperatures before leaving the house.

How’s that saying go… No good deed goes unpunished?

The pump works. Doesn’t empty the internal tub but removes about 20% in this test. But it means we are good the next time the humidity goes way up.

About an hour after lights on and the dehumidifier off.



Still putting things away in totes and containers. The layout is working out much better than I thought. Just a tight fit to do any real work in the tent. Watering isn’t too bad with the wand and stool.

No more yellow exercise ball, to big too fit. Trying to make the wheeled cart like a triage cart with most often used items. Keep the top clear to put plants on so I can work on them. Unfortunately the plastic drawers don’t fit together underneath.

The new tensioners are working nicely. They are a little bit in the way if I don’t pay attention. But much better than a bar and keep the fans clear when added.

Family is back to work and we’re about 80% better. On/off headache and occasional coughing fits.

20260126: GM & GGB#4 T-11

Lots of yellow leaves mixed in with green and purple. Probably locked something out as the lowers are greener.

Less than two weeks from an average harvest date. Start scoping the trichomes next weekend.

Finished cleaning up the grow room. Put in a night light so the family can navigate in the dark and buddy can crash in here again if need be. Just need to find a place for two paintings.



Saturday morning when the snow started.

Sunday afternoon.

This morning the snow is a third of the way up the basement windows. Two feet high in the flats and much higher in the drift areas.

Got bored the other day. Had AI tweak a crappy pic of the dog just for fun. Had it remove me and give her Disney face.

I can’t see how this tech can be abused by people.

Saturday we had to cut shopping short. It was so cold the tires felt flat until we drove a bit. This was before the snow got worse. After the second store the power steering red LED came on. Driving home was worse than rack in pinion. Now I have to wait before I can even look things over. Hoping it’s a fuse but IDK. First time I’ve ever had this issue. Research shows KIA uses electric motor which has a known failure point. It’s also a huge PITA to get too and it’s not an outside winter job.

Did I mention we are DONE with winter already?

I had no idea when I bought the car. I e babied it since day one with the expectation it would last. A few recall issues and early part failures has me rethinking our next car purchase.

Some new things are good and welcome. Forgive me if I can't name one now, but some of this stuff is not very useful to me.

I’d still be buying manual windows if I could. Power windows always fail at some point and was it really so hard to roll one down by hand?

What they are doing with vehicles hopefully can be undone one day or improved upon enough not to be a liability to me.

I understand they are slowly getting rid of dip sticks and other fluid level check/top off points. They want more service calls rather than home maintenance or repairs.

Now that used cars cost what new ones used too and new cars are what small homes used to cost I don’t think I’ll be buying new anytime soon if at all.
