CannaGranny’s Corner a Thread For General BS and Good Will On BudBuilders

I add two tablespoons of epsom salts and drop a tums in the hole prior to planting. Never seem to have any problems.
Tums I’m familiar with. Never known anyone to use them on vegetables but it makes sense. Guessing the food colouring and sugar isn’t an issue then. I’ll keep that in mind for next year. Just the tomatoes?

I just think it’s strange that nothing else has ever had this issue. I can’t even compare to a past grow as this is our first time growing Roma.

Live and learn. 🤷‍♂️

I’ve never added anything to the vegetable garden other than fertilizer. Some top feeding with worm castings and a bit of mykos this time but that was much later and to help break down the Gaia.

Either the soil the Roma are in is bad shape or the Roma needs more than anything else. I’m curious now and wonder if I run them again next year if they will do better with tums?
I seem to notice more blossom end rot when there is a wet spring

some strains seem more susceptible than others, that's why I went with Roma instead of Amish paste this year because even though it was a bigger meaty tomato it didn't have much blossom end rot resistance

Nope not an issue. The Old fellow that taught me how he got such beautiful tomatoes years ago taught me that. As a matter of a fact, if he ran out of tums, he would add 2.5 tablespoons of salt and a tablespoon of sugar.
I actually believe a lot of tomato probs are these days in the genetics. Just like crappy weed.
I’m off to bake my GF a chocolate strawberry cake with cream cheese frosting. Party is at five..so I gotta get busy.

I have ProCal 2:0:0 but same thing. Used it yesterday morning. Lost two more tomatoes today so it’s going to take a bit to work.

Only the Roma are effected, weird.
I miss my garden..
Used to do all romas and then make a crazy amount of sauce for me and friends.

So cool to see a bunch of tomatoes cook down into sauce. Me, i love some red wine in my sauce like Cabernet or Merlot, on top of the normal stuff.

Used to fill to the brim a turkey pan with raw tomatoes that spread over two electric burners. In a few hours smells like an Italian joint!! 😂

Happy Friday everyone!!!

The Tums tip is a common practice around here. Probably everywhere. I've seen some pretty convincing videos debunking the practice. That position is based on the tiny amount of calcium in the Tums. Not saying I "know" differently, but that feels like pretty sound position. It could be that the plants are finding the calcium they need from other nutrients. That said, a ton of people swear by it.

I'll see if I can find a recent video by the world record tomato grower. This year I think he had three tomatoes that broke the world record he set last year. Like 13lb tomatoes or something crazy like that, lol. He has shares some pretty good tips he on his methods. How he builds his soil and amendments he uses.Bunch of interesting stuff. In one of his videos they show some other giant vegetables he has growing. He has a beautiful garden, but some special areas where he messes around trying to go big.

Ha! I found that dudes channel and was looking for the video with his general tomato growing process. Right up front I saw a video he has focussing on blossom end rot. I haven't watched this one, but I'll bet it has some good ino:

How's your week @CannaGranny ? Quiet in here

Here's a cute pic of a dog i took out for a few hours from the shelter this weekend in the new ride, don't know what happened to her, 1 year old, and sometimes skiddish, i had a bad feeling someone was abusive to her.

I hope Luna finds a very loving home! The cool thing is taking them out to lower their stress from being in the shelter, i think it worked, she was all smiles after a big walk and car ride, just needs a little groomingPXL_20250809_173157647.jpgPXL_20250809_161153374.jpg

I’m over here being overdosed with Walmarts AI pharmacy system. I’ve felt like a worn out ragged out noodle for the past week. I figured it out yesterday. Seems Walmart substituted my 25 mg dose of meds with a fifty mg that could be cut in half. No one told me. They are both white pills. So long story short I’ve been double dosed on a med that lowers blood pressure and controls heart rhythms for over a week. I just went to the Doc about a week and a half ago and she’s saying she wants to lower it to 12.5mg..but nope..I’ve been taking 50’s unknown to me.
So, there’s your answer to my quietness. I been struggling just with daily life.
Today was a much better day and I’m convinced it’s only going to get better! Has to, I got a big shoot coming up Saturday! Don’t need to be drag assing at the range!
Thanks for checking in on me! Much appreciated 🥰

Sorry to hear that CG. I’ve had my own pill issues this week so I sympathize.

Don’t see the Doc again for a week or two but I think I figured out what happened. He must have seen my blood work results and had the pharmacy change my prescription. The one bottle I was taking I’m to stop taking but now I have to take four pills four times a day. 😳

Side effects are nasty. Nauseous and vomiting occasionally. 😞

I hope your feeling better and it doesn’t affect your performance. Best of luck PAL. 🤞

Sorry to hear about that, that's very dangerous 😡

I'm not a doctor and I'm not offering medical advice, just my own Story about being on blood pressure meds for two decades

'Covid' woke me up to a lot of things including the poison in food and what our doctors are doing to us

3 years ago I eliminated most processed sugars, all high fructose and GMO food, and in a month my blood pressure was 120 over 80 and it's stayed there steady as a rock for 3 years. I no longer take any medications.

I'm retired so I have time to cook everything from scratch which I understand is not an easy thing for everybody and maybe not an option for all people, but I wanted to share my experience anyway. Be well and may God bless you

Yes of course!

I'm so glad that you got the dose figured out, that's scary shit for sure

Good luck this weekend!!

Glad to hear this!
I’m slowly being weaned off of the bp meds. I’m replacing them with Super Beets. I take in very little if any sugars and I too cook 98% of our meals. When I travel to shoot is about the only time I have a hard time finding healthy choices. I also do zero GMO foods.
Having previously had a heart attack makes just stopping these meds a bit perilous.
I’m getting there though. Now if Walmart would just quit quietly doubling them!

Good for you, glad to hear! it's a big step and as you already know it's not easy to do because so much of our foods are filled with dyes and chemicals!6143a01141940723.png

Good morning fellow inmates, er uhh citizens of earth. I hope everyone enjoys the day. I will be heading west toward the coast tomorrow but for today, my GF and I will be heading up into the big trees. Redwoods, huge pines, fir and a few other things that just get monster big.

Nice day in the Sierra.
We were just east of a gold county town named Arnold.

The Stanislas national forest is accessible here with some sequoias. There’s a stump from a massive tree that defies belief until you see the group standing on it. One of the winter seasonal renters for one of my rentals comes from Arnold. She booked my desert rental last year and really enjoyed it so as soon as the season was over she rebooked for this season coming up. Really nice lady.

Just a bunch of hungry mouths.

This is the fly danger zone, these snappers were very successful when I had to put them outside for about six months. They were well fed when I brought them back inside and just loving the bright lights.
I’m starting to see some longer leaves on the flytraps so they sense that autumn is coming, they are making a desperate reach for every last insect before they sleep for winter. The bowl probably won’t even be visible from the top by mid September.

Why is he there?
Not really sure, i don't ask, and i don't think they would tell me as a volunteer. Doesn't seem physically abused, very friendly, got attached to me very quickly, she said he has separation anxiety and at first was on some anxiety meds. He's a great dog, wife was with us on our field trip for a few hours today and i left them in the car to get something out the apartment real quick and she said he started whining for me and looking around everywhere until i came back. I wish i could save them all

What they ask for from me is a report on how he did with everything, pulling, listening, etc... he got all As

View attachment 111463going to try this again, but with some extra steps, doing cold stratification for two weeks then maybe scarification, idk

Wife bought these for me so just trying to get them to work
I’ve had three different attempts at these things. I want one to grow so bad I can taste it.
If long cold strat does it, I’ll give it another try but I’ve had no luck.

Also heard of soaking in warm water to help open them up after the stratification

I got a few more packs to try if these don't work,

Nice of you to volunteer to help out. I used too when I was younger but after a while it would break my heart to leave a few of them. Some look so sad or alone. You a good man @ninjadip ! 👊

Never took them for rides though, just walks around the property or in a play room.

Just love your garden man!

So much going on and mostly exotic, at least to me. Could use some of the fly traps for sure. 👊

Yeah it's def hard to have fun, bond, and say bye ...

Just love seeing them smile after seeing their faces in there

A decade ago i did this and eventually it got to me after a few months, similar program, hoping I'm a little stronger now.

There's a beautiful pit mix that is coming with me next weekend maybe up to skyline drive if she's still there

Edit: Just remembered i have my big bike thing next Saturday, 30 mile event, so it will be two weeks before i can get back to the shelter, only open Saturday on the weekend, and i get home from work too late, they are already closed by then

Going to see how a gopro captures on the bike helmet for the event, hopefully i get some good video/pics i can share with you all, it is in the city, Herndon, VA (NOVA) but I believe we are heading out to the rural areas for safety, prolly be a few hundred of us at least i imagine

This was put up last week, bus shelter advertising. Seems ticks are on the rise again. That’s five years in a row. 😞
did anyone else read this differently at first glance?
thought it said something more provocative in the headline....
like that big "D" ;rfl energy

i was like damn, go toronto lol

it's nice to know that this extends to Canada as well

This you can blame on US.
I’ve read/heard that. Don’t know if it’s true internet being the internet.

Spent most of my youth in the woods. Never once feared being alone. Driving home from the rifle range one day I had a tick crawl down my bare arm while on the HWY. Almost lost my shit. 🤣

I’d like to think it was done on purpose. Why else phrase it that way?
