Stoney & The Shine RDWC SCROG

Sooo… a little pricey learning curve. Is what I read. And your pretty much setup to try again at a later date.

I’d say you lost some time but gained an education. Not bad if you didn’t need the harvest.

One day I hope to go over these threads again and steal what works and avoid what fails when I decide to try.

Thanks for the efforts and testing what works and what doesn’t. 👍

no good quality education is free anyway i guess!!! haha

i sure know a few things not to do and could spot these same problems in someone else's grow down the road so who knows might end up being valuable versus a cost!!!

took some pics of my DIY ph probe setup...

the guts..

the GUI... (cleanroom talk for Graphical User Interface)

002.JPG

the bracket to hold the temp and ph probe, the temp is perfectly hidden in the photo by accident. put a threaded set screw on so i can slide it out for easy calibrations and cleanings!! has a full auto recognition calibrate sequence just like blue labs!!

003.JPG

it's now part of command central and yes, i later printed a set screw to match!!!! haha

004.JPG011.JPG

so if anyone would like to build one of these all you need is a PC to transfer the code and the rest can all be copied and pasted!!!

Wow I've missed 17 pages... better get to reading.

skim fast, i had issues... i'm gonna keep this thread for the new plants.. i plan to put an update on the first post to send folks to this spot.

i'm about a week in right now Grump. plants are looking fine so far, i now use GH trio and sitting around 250ppm with just agsil, calmag, trio, and great white. i will be adding rapid start and enzymes any day now. roots are just exposing now!!

i plan to do an update soon. Moe has been walking me through the DO/O2 meter he sent me and i just printed out a bracket last night and want to mount it in there tonight, gotta do a quick calibration on it and should be ready to test my bubbles!!! over the past two or three days ph has slightly been lowering so i think i have too much air again. yesterday i turned the rez bubbles off and it is better today so i might not be able to have air in rez for it to work right.. not sure till i get the meter in there.

other than i am ready for a good grow man, i'm due!!!!

There's a ton of DIY wizardry to geek out over in here. Your pH probe reminds me of some industrial tech I see all over the place. A lot of it has been good enough to hold up unchanged for over 30 years. Custom printing is icing on the cake :)

Moe/aqua what's your opinion on extra molybdenum for root growth like the product rapid start?
I use a dash of Rapid start, some Orca and Mr. Fulvic when I germinate. I've had good success with rooting doing it this way.

I also start them all like this. First into a GH Gro-Plug, then into the netpots with hydroton as soon as I have roots leaving the plugs. Usually a day or 3 after sprouting.

They'll stay like this until I'm ready. This batch was in the Germ dome a little longer than initially planned at 19 days.
20250506_225830.jpg

I think this helps my roots. They hit the bottom of the tray as soon as they leave the netpots. These roots were exposed to light for nearly a week and still turned out pretty impressive. This is the day they went into the system.
20250510_231124.jpg
Tons of roots for a tiny plant.

Plants were a little unhappy for the first couple days but they bounced right back once added to the system.

I dont know if these little hydroton balls make a difference but I love 'em. It's so much easier to transplant the plugs into the netpots because the little pellets fill every nook and cranny vs the random sized hydroton I was using before. I also think they helped with the side shooting as well.

I have found some strains will never fully recover at least by my hand when given a poor start.
Man like that Power Plant grow I had. Sucker was babied for 3 months before I finally tossed it. 3 months and it was weak and only a foot tall. Lame. It should've been packing on nugs at 3 months.

Or do you think getting a guardian is just as good or even possibly cheaper?
I have two BlueLab Guardians and I love 'em.

Is that weatherstripping you used nontoxic? Did it cure all the way before you started adding water?

Maybe it leeched into the system and poisoned your plants?

I dont know man.. I hate that you had to start over a couple times. That's rough.

I was at my wits end before I finally got some seeds to take, last round. Tossing out plants that are "established" isn't easy.

the printer helps a bunch, so easy to just make a bracket or something without even giving it a thought.

for the oxygen sensors i just modified the other bracket a little and didn't have tor redraw it, just a few seconds to change some dimensions.

002.JPG

got it mounted and wired in place too!!

never gave the weatherstrip a thought.. that was something not in grow one.. i got that stuff from Anthem back in the day, i'm pretty sure the paperwork for it is in the one pack, i'll look at it for sure man!! i also used permatx black for the joint. i left that dry for 24hrs but not sure if it can leach, its made for cars.

i thought for sure i had it solved but man the bigger plant now in soil is still doing the exact same thing, not sure if it's just encoded in the dna to grow this way now or if it's still unhappy i don't know. the plant will be going outside in mother earth as soon as it stops raining.

the third set of leaves continue to burn to this day... and no new growth ever comes from that node ever again. just baffling!!

017.JPG

.
.

so i have no idea if the problem is fixed or what... no freakin clue whatsoever...

what i do know is the newest plants look just fine like all the others did till week three..

the newest little baby groots with little baby roots!!!!!!!!!!! day six since sprout... The Shine!!!!!

011.JPG012.JPG
013.JPG014.JPG
010.JPG

the two Grape Punch from gps are in the small 1L aircells and are doing just fine in soil. i think they really liked the first eight days in hydro and haven't slowed down one bit since!!! these will also go outside but i might give these two some luv inside for a while yet.. the big plant has no hope so not wasting any more time on it.

both little ones have a twist to the single blades but not like the curls i've been seeing. i'm not worried about this twist the leaves aren't limping or dyeing back, just a twist.

015.JPG

016.JPG

so nothing has me worried but on the flip side nothing has me confident either.... waiting in suspense.

how do ya keep a stoner in suspense? .. i'll tell ya tomorrow!! haha

hahahaha not enough yet but i got my eyes peeled!!!!!!!

just starting week two, no issues... yesterday i added rapidstart and enzymes 25ml of each.

have a great weekend everybody!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Off to a good start from the looks of it

yeah man, i've had some practice starting over and i'm learning this seedling stage part for sure.. by next weekend i should know if the soggy bottoms were my issue. regardless it was still an issue, just not sure if it's thee issue.

Time to trim the jungle. Vegged way too long because a timer malfunctioned.

holy shit man!!!!!!!!!!!! so last month you never really flipped?!?! you're gonna need a bigger boat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully the stretch is over. I’ll make it work.

Need to move over to aci for light control I think.

i was gonna ask, can you still flower them.. but then i saw buds forming and figured you already decided to try!!!!

did you ever hook up that new ACI controller you got with the AI?

Not for lighting yet. Need another ac outlet.

They have been flower timing for a while. On an old mechanical timer sometimes simple is best I guess.

Vertical growth is over or close to it. I’ll be alright. Famous last words.

so i upgraded to a mars hydro humidifier.

006.JPG
so far i like it!!! if it works for what i need i'll really like it!!! it was a toss up between this one and the ACI cloud but according to the specs ths one is more than twice the vapor at 560ml/hour. according to the specs anyway...
the new humidifier is kicking ass!! pumped a full gallon of water into there the first 24hrs!! now that everything is saturated better it should be able to maintain with ease. but damn a gallon!!!
Man.. so I just noticed today that I've had my exhaust fan set to ramp up at 84 degrees. My temp is set to 82 which climbs passed 84 every cycle.

So my exhaust fan has been sucking out all my humidity unintentionally.

This Cloudforge T7 has been pumping itself dry every day. THAT'S 4 GALLONS A DAY. I only have it set on 5 out of 10. Does that mean this thing could theoretically pump out 8 GALLONS PER DAY!?

The AC Infinity CLOUDFORGE T7 environmental plant humidifier has a 15-liter (3.96 gallon) capacity. It features a maximum runtime of 30 hours and an output rate of 43.95 fl oz/h

44 x 24 =1,056

1056 / 128 =8.25 gals per day max.

On that mars that Stoney has, 560 ml/hr is 19 oz per hour.

19 x 24 =456
456 / 128 =3.563 gals per day.

looks like you got some headroom left so rock on!! ;roc

are those tubs full of roots? do they go through your recirc pipes at all?

.

still holding steady on my restart, plants appear to be growing.. my ph started sinking again a couple days ago, not much just .05 per day but now down to 5.7. my rez bubbles are still turned off and m bucket sites are not turbulent with air so i'm not sure why the dip in ph??? started doing that once i added the rapid start and enzymes. might just be normal and i'm not aware of it. i'll keep an eye on it. it sure is nice to just look at the screen versus taking a sample and checking/cleaning the dip meter. feel pretty spoiled right now!!!

damn that a lot of water!!! your house rh was probably really nice from it!!!!

my exhaust overlaps my humidifier sometimes but normally only for a minute... right now it's tough to tell for me because this is the one of two times a year my basement is the perfect growing room. if i could get it to stay like this all year i wouldn't even use cabinets.

i used the marshydro hmidifier throughout the driest time for me and it held up great, a few days needed daily fillings, most days were every three days, the last two weeks i've only filled it once. so i'm happy with my choice, i really wanted the T7 but this was half the price so i'm happy it's enough for what i need. i'm normally an overkill dude so having just enough isn't always my style.

Close. Did you know the form does math?

5x5=25

winding out the second week now and i'm still not sure if my issue is fixed or not just quite yet. a couple show some signs of it and a couple don't... i'm maybe thinking of trying a different light, i know that sounds silly but i'm just not sure where else to turn at this point. the two plants under the left light look worse than the two under the right side, maybe coincidence? idk.. here's pics.. i'm right around the point where the curls and burns start happening so fingers still crossed but honestly i'm not very confident at this time. i can see the first leaves getting weaker and will probably start burning in the next day or two.

so some good some bad... still no clue!!!

ph is still diving a little, not much but still consistent and not stopping and i'm tired of adding a ml of of ph up every single day. EC hasn't moved and all charts say to lower EC if this happens, i've tried it before and it doesn't do shit but i'm out of ideas and don't think it's the bubbles, nobody else has this issue i think i'm chasing the wrong thing. i'm going to take about eight gallons out tonight and replace it with water and see what happens.

hey bud, just for GP, i noticed with my seedlings although I had a small ph issue, always kinda felt like the light was to close/intense by eye. When i put a few in under the full spectrum ar 40% at about 30in the popped back right afret the ph was taken care of at the same time, don't know if that's usable information or not.

Only other thing I can throw in bud is, I was surprised at the ph of the media im in now. I was doing the norm...6-6.5, and the media wanted 7-7.2 , throw in the food in the bag being older, combo... ph media, ph water, and IMHO, light, I belive i had it to close to long and bad spectrum control by the grow ererer...... all just my observations, it my be completely nothing to do with anything bud...

Edit....to much light at the time::::Edit

i have been running even spectrum on these since the beginning. these lights are different from my other ones in the dark side, these are gen2 and maybe gen3. they're both different from each other so i figured me adjusting spectrums would just mess things up worse so i've been 30-30-30 the whole time.

been thinking of maybe going to my gen1 recipes though...

and why i'm only seeing the issue so far on one of the four plants is confusing me. if that one soil plant wasn't doing the exact same thing as my last hydro seedlings i'd be thinking i don't have an issue.

i put those other plants outside and they still haven't recovered, it's like once they get this issue it never goes away. could even be starting at the seed level for all i know...

but if i go by what i see right now (which btw it a revolving fucking door of issues!!) it happens to both hydro and soil in that cabinet. this doesn't happen in the cabinet right next to it. (yet)

so lights?? wall coverings?? idk, it doesn't make sense at all! whatever it is it takes almost three weeks to the day to show signs and the symptoms are all exactly the same.

i did lower my EC tonight... i was running at 270 consistent since day one and charts say if ph is diving and ec is not to lower the ec. so i took out about 7-8 gallons and replaced it with plain water. the ph didn't really move, slightly went up to 5.8-5.9 so i will just continue to watch. the EC is now 190. i honestly feel i should be under 200 at this point anyway.

SpiderCrabbot mock up

want to make this, it'll climb ur plants and clip leafs off.

release 10, 20, 40, 80 in a room or field to inspect plants, send back pictures of any damage or pest etc, and defoliate.

thats just badass!!!!! i've seen plant robots on tv before but not in a spider look like that. ones i saw were on tracks and traveled along the rows of crops.

i'd wake up one day and all my leaves would be gone!!! hahaha

ya think they could hold a pair of scissors and help harvest too?? hehe

Stoney Man.. what the hell!?

This is starting to drive me nuts. I can't imagine what you're going through. If that soil plant wasn't acting up, I'd still be assuming that caulk under your lids is the issue, but that's not the case.

The dark side cabinet.. is it watered from the same rain barrel? I'm guessing so, eh?

I can't come up with any other possible contamination. Surely it's not the lights, right? That seems wild considering you've used that one light for so long and you haven't strayed from your tried-and-true spectrums. I have no idea what gen my light is but it hasn't caused me issues. Definitely not something like what you have going on, anyway.

I hate this for you, man. Hopefully these guys aren't pulling the same stunt and they're just being finicky. I guess we'll know in the next few days, eh?
