Grump's Guzzlers Grow 🌱

I put in an order for some more Athena nutes. I was hesitant because they're pretty pricey, but I can't get over the rock solid resevoirs. Super easy to mix and it just stays where you want it. That's a big plus for me with my busy schedule. I haven't adjusted the pH of this grow YET, only fine tuning with each res change. It levels out in a day and stays put.

I grabbed a bottle of FADE also. It's not something that was sent in the sample pack so I don't know whether or not it's necessary, but it claims to give a boost to your terps. I'll gladly give that a whirl.

I made it through 2+ grows with the gallon bottles they sent. I still have enough Grow A and B to do another run, so 3+ grows for that stuff. Lowering my ppms this round will also help conserve the Bloom nutes, maybe getting 3 grows out of it as well.

They're BALANCE silica product works also. I know it's costly, but it's so much simpler than premixing the Agsil like I was before, plus it keeps a more stable res from my experience.

All that to say... Next round has been re-upped and I'm ready to grow some Kitchen Sink.

Everyone's experience is different, but if it's within your budget, I strongly recommend Athena's Blended line of nutes for anyone doing hydro. Simple resevoirs make for a simple grow. Keep it simple, stupid.

i guess if you factor in the free stuff they gave you i bet it's not really that expensive yet...

Res change today. Another boost of PK and a little less CaMg. I left about 6 gallons in the plantsites and filled it up with 900ppm of the new batch. That's what it'll get for the top-off, 900. I'm gonna let the lowers circulate before a final ppm reading there.

Nugs!! Everwhere!!

This one here will gauge the harvest windo since it has the most on it. It's had an impressive run, starting as the runt. It stretched over 5 feet and is producing some healthy looking nuggets.
20250702_111539.jpg20250702_111600.jpg

The one here stretched the least and is the furthest along. Nice structure and spacing on these and I think it's gonna finish really nice.
20250702_111624.jpg20250702_111641.jpg

Middle of the road kind of plant, here. Nothing the say other than it's doing just fine as well. It's gonna have some weight to it at harvest, foflr sure.

Then there's this idiot...

I need to see some buds or YOU'RE FIRED

Wonderful smell to the tent this time. Like a gassy tropical smoothie. Kinda pineappley crude oil. It's some kind of funky fruity fragrance that I'm excited to torch.

Thanks for being here and following along

Found quite a few of these...

I may never let another lone calyx make it to harvest. Fuckin' balls, I'll pluck 'em all.

About the seeds though. If these pollinated themselves, will that make the resulting seeds mostly fems? I might start a little stash if I find a bunch in the buds.

These plants smell wonderful. The front two have a very sweet, tropical sort of hazeyness.. The back one has the same, just not as strong and with a lot more of a gassy funk.

not mostly, all! if no male pollen then no male seeds. could produce another hermi but if it's stress and not genetic is almost perfect scenario.

hey i've heard you mention you like that balance as a buffer a couple times now, i picked up a jug the other day.

Oh shit yeah! Depending on the plant, these are keeper phenos so far. I was just talking to G$ about finding me some Island Sweet Skunk seeds and these plants are damn near spot-on, terps wise. They've got the same nose. It's a nostalgic strain for me that I sampled when good weed first hit Kansas back in like '08. Haven't sampled anything yet, obviously, but I'm farming for terps, not the high.

I'll make sure to save any mature seeds I find and, if I get enough, I'd love to pass some around. Like I said, this is a keeper pheno if you're a tropical terp chaser.

Nice. Yeah these Athena nutes have been ridiculously stable. I used less on this last res change cuz I'm gonna be weaning them off here pretty soon. Plant-site pH has been falling over this last week so I think they're eating less now, coming up to the final stretch. I'll have to look back, but I should only have 3-5 weeks left. They've really started to fatten up and I'm excited. The plant that started as the runt is FULL of budsites. It's gonna be a sweet harvest, seeds be damned.

Yep.. Just checked and we're finishing up the 7th week, so I was pretty damn close.

So... If i'm looking at 2 more weeks until 10 weeks, I need to do a res change tomorrow. This late in the game, Athena recommends nothing but PK and FADE shooting for 850ppm. I'm already lower than that in the plant-sites, sitting around 650ppm. I'll aim for closer to 400 with the PK and FADE and nothing else. No BALANCE or anything to act as a buffer. We'll see how stable these nutes are then.

Here's what Athena says about their FADE...

I'm pretty curious about the Calcium Chloride. Is chlorine something you really wanna put in your res?? @moe.red

I'm gonna try it because I've already got the bottle in the grow room.

Calcium chloride is not chlorine.

Chlorine is naturally 2 atoms bonded together and is a gas at room temp. Highly oxidizing in its element form which is why it kills bugs.

Make an ionic bond with a calcium atom and you have an ionic salt in crystal form.

Chlorine is in fact a minor nute. The plants do require it. But man 7% seems like a lot.

I’ve never run Athena before personally.

I’d need to do some testing but the effect on your Bennie’s colony will not be zero. Some will die. If it is enough to matter I don’t know. That said if you are killing the Bennie’s you are killing the baddies most likely. Interesting question

If anything.. I don't see an issue losing bennies in the last two weeks of the grow, if that happens to be a result. I know you've told me to save my colony again and again, but I never listen...

I'm interested to see the results, though. So far, I've been very pleased with the results from my last two grows using Athena -- Ease of mixing, stable pH, no hit to the final product. This stuff is new, though. I don't know when it was released, but it wasn't in the free trial they sent. Stuff's $30 bucks a gallon but I'll only be using 300-600ml per grow. The rest of the lineup has lasted two grows and might last three.

The stable resevoirs sold me on their lineup. These last two grows stayed on autopilot every res change. It's been a lifesaver with the ridiculous hours I've been working.

I never did take my growing experience into account, though. I've lost track of harvests at this point, so there's a possibility that me just being a better grower has contributed to the stable resevoirs. Coincidence? I don't know...

Honestly, unless the terps are just out of this world loud, I won't really even know if it has any affect. I've never ran the same strain twice. However, I'm VERY excited about the smell coming from these ladies, so I'll certainly run this strain again.

-------

That was a lot.. what the hell. Morning/bedtime doob got me speaking in run-ons..

Don't know the math but 7% chlorine is still going to be diluted when you mix nutes.
I would guess by the time all is mixed it is below tap water level chlorine.
My experience with fish was water changes of under 75% could do be done with no chlorine remover or ill effects. Many of the top breeders consider it a mild prophylactic that was free and safe without killing our precious beneficial bacteria.
The chlorine only lasted a couple hours max because as mentioned the bacteria that it kills also kill it and have an effect on its life.

it was the same price as the GH so i figured what the hell...

i have wishful thinking that i can get over my hydro issue and will be able to use it. if not, i'm sending it to you!!

Starting to swell and pack on the frost..
20250716_052354.jpg20250716_052426.jpg20250716_052441.jpg20250716_052448.jpg

They got a res change the other night with nothing but PK and FADE at ~500 ppm. Still a rock solid res without any kind of pH adjusters/buffer. PK and FADE in my RO landed right at 6.0 and has held that for a few days. I keep saying it, but I'm very pleased with Athena's lineup. Stable resevoirs and happy plants. Hopefully this FADE gives them a boost in terps like advertised. These things are super smelly as is.

I started swapping reds for blues on the light spectrum when I did the res change. Right now we're at 49r:99w:89b. I'll max out the blues tomorrow and stop the reds at 39, then slowly start reducing intensity. 2 more weeks, possibly 3. Pretty sure this is the middle of week 8.

The front two plants aren't smelling like the description on HSC's website. They claim Guzzlers comes with a chemical spill/nail salon/ammonia funk. I'm getting nothing but tropical fruit/haze on the front two. The back one might have a chemical funk but nothing like described. That's not a complaint because the tropical fruit/haze smell resembles one of my favorite strains from the past.

CANNOT WAIT TO BURN THESE BRITCHES DOWN.

Looks good bro! What's the fade nute made of?

We'll see whether or not it works. It's my first time using it and first time growing Guzzlers. I won't have any evidence to whether or not the FADE actually does anything. I've had decent terps on all my grows, but nothing that's been surprisingly strong. So if this harvest has some out-of-this-world terps, it can only be either A- the strain, or B- the FADE.

I am super stoked on these plants though. A nice sweet tropical fruit nose with a gassy undertone. Has a sort of Hazey piña colada smell. Best smelling plants I've had so far. Absolutely mouthwatering. Hope it really finishes strong.

Sounds good to me lol

The 7% chlorine surprised me, but prolly something to do with its intended purpose

Thanks man

Almost through the 9th week here and they're all looking great. The tallest one is perfect. Large frosty nugs with a very loud piña colada sort of haze profile. The other two have done fine, but they're a little leafier than I'd like, plus the super squat one didn't end up getting the light she deserved.
20250723_142842.jpg

I started pulling out the reds and lowering the intensity. I'll drop the whites down daily and finish all blue for the last few days. I expect to chop Tues-Thurs next week. Those are my last days off before the baby arrives. The smaller two could probably use another two weeks, still trying to spit white hairs.
20250723_141707.jpg

Even at the lower ppm, they've still been drinking more than they've been eating. Ppm have continued to rise, so I've add RO to both the top-off and lower sites to dilute it down a bit.
20250723_141758.jpg

Well my baby came a bit early so I went ahead and chopped before we bring him home. Biggest plant was the most mature and yielded close to 8 ounces by my best guess.
20250726_111930.jpg

Little plant was pretty close to done as well but only brought 2 maybe 3.
20250726_104747.jpg

Back plant wasn't quite ready but she got chopped anyway. I'm guessing 4-6 ounces from it. Not the biggest nug I just never stopped and snapped a pic of a nicer one.
20250726_095954.jpg

Smells so fruity and wonderful. 2 held onto the tropical haze sort of terps and the other about the same with a little skunky note to it. I'll get a smoke report and final weight after they're dried, and another smoke report after about 2 weeks in grove bags.

Stay tuned to hopefully see me cross over the one pound boundary. LET'S GOOO

I was talking to myself and I said "Self... 72 degrees is doable but we could prolly find a portable AC around here."

5 minutes later i'm in the truck headed to town.
Maybe I can pull off a 60/60 dry and save these killer terps.

Red square: AC in the tent. Temps got down to 60 but I was having wicked humidity spikes. 72+% was too high for my liking so I pulled out.

Blue square: pulled the AC out of the tent and aimed it at the tent's intake. Was getting 65 degrees and keeping the 60% humidity setpoint easily. The temp spikes are when the house AC wasn't running.

Green square. Still aimed at the intake but with a little box built around it like a tiny lung room. Seems to be the best of both worlds. Temps are still dropping, reached 63 so far, with no spikes and the humidity setpoint is easily held.

Gonna get a good dry on these sumbitches.

what a beautiful baby boy!! a full head o f hair and everything!!!

glad to hear he and mom are well and hope you continue with health and wealth my man!!!!!

so happy for you guys!!!!!!!!!!!

Bagged it up after 6 and a half days at 60-64 degrees and 58-61% humidity.

13 damn grams short of a pound...
-3oz 2g from the little one.
-5oz 9g from the back, immature one.
-7oz 4g from the big one on the front left.

I'll be back with some after cure pics and smoke reports in 14 days or so.

Hoping to get the tent cleaned up and the system running some bleach through it today. If all goes as planned, I'll get the Kitchen Sink cloner moved into the tent. It's starting to struggle in it's uncontrolled environment.
