Last 2 Jack Herer autos. Ran with Fox Farm products but I know much more now and considering straight coco next grow. All in all they did pretty well. I had them stuffed in this 3x3 with an Amnesia Haze photo that’s hanging now. That’s why the Christmas trees otherwise they would have gotten low stressed trained. Ran them about 80 days altho Homegrown where I got the beans recommended 70. Hoping to yank Monday morning then pack up the tent for the move. My run off is 300 ppm which I think is still a little high. I did use Fox Farm’s flushing agent Bushwacker then 3 good flushes after.

Run off levels in soil can mean nothing.
Soil has all sorts of stuff in it and even with straight water can have run off well over 1,000 if the soil is still fresh.
Even if you took a baseline when starting the soil it will wear out and the numbers will change making it a less helpful tool then when used in coco.
Plants look good but I might give them a little longer to color up the pistils?

Thank you. I picked up a TDS meter late in the grow. I do realize that soil will me harder to determine ppm. Part of the reason I wanna go coco coir next grow. I also ended up on a time crunch. I also do realize my plants are a tad immature yet. When I started this grow I had all intentions to get full mature flowers. Then life happened, plans were made and now packing up and moving to Va. The majority of trichs are cloudy milky but nothing amber yet.

Why Coco? I like Promix type soils. No ph worries in it. I know Coco is all the rage but it comes with baggage I'd rather stay away from. I've been in Promix type soils 30+ years and I see no reasons to change. Its just to easy to grow in, I don't get the desire for Coco.

I think the rage is that it’s an inert and it’s basically like doing hydro in a soil like substrate. It can also be washed and reused for like 2-3 grows. My fascination I think comes from just researching and following other grows that mainly use coco. I may eventually try promix or go full organic and build my own. I first want to understand tho what each nute does for the plant before I get that far and no better place that’s easier than hydro is coco.

I read a lot of posts with growers having problems and 90% of the time they are in Coco. I know its a good grow medium for experienced growers but Its just a medium to supports roots and they get there nutrients from what we give them. To me in my simple mind if the support causes problems why use it? A bit better growth when used right?, sure but you gotta get there first.

To me in my simple mind if the support causes problems why use it? A bit better growth when used right?, sure but you gotta get there first.

You may be right I may be too inexperienced to try coco. Maybe I should do a few more grows in soil first. I keep a notebook & I have a section already filled out with how to grow in coco notes. Thinking ahead I want to get a perpetual going so coco may end up being a side project. Thanks for the tip and making me rethink things!

One of my bitches about Coco is the need to adjust the ph. I don't do that in Promix. I keep reading PH ing Coco to 5.6 - 5,8 ph so PH down products have to be used. PH down is an acid that can and will accumulate in the Coco by being constantly added driving the root zone down into the 4.8 region then wondering why plants are off color and looking sick...even after ph ing properly every time they feed. I haven't ph'd my nutes in over 5 years now after a guy at the farm said about the same thing as I did above and that he never used PH products in Promix...ever...My grows have improved a lot since then.

I started out in soil and eventually switched over to hydro and never looked back, Hydro is the easiest most simple way to grow IMHO. A little bit of an investment to get started but in the long run, cheaper to run than soil or coco and easier to boot.

I'm in Autopots, with air domes, an ebb and flow system that is a combination Hydro & soil. A lot use Coco in them as well with the same issues I mentioned above.
