I'm back with another episode of Grump's Grows.

This time, we'll be talking about HSC's Guzzlers. This one really stood out to me with it's description. Most of the strains on their website have a pretty simple (herbal, fruity, citrus etc.) description of the terps. Not Guzzlers...
Screenshot_20250415_194838_Chrome.jpg
How could you pass that up?!
If they went out of their way to describe it like that vs how they describe the rest of their strains, it must stand out from the crowd, right? Right??

I snagged a 5 pack from @B2ACG for $55. They all sprouted 5 for 5 on 4/21.

Here they are tonight...

Got 1 runt and a freak that'll probably get tossed. The other 3 are pretty similar.

-------

Here's a couple lists of what I'll be using this round.

Equipment:
SpiderFarmer 5x5 tent (vaulted ceiling edition)
UnderCurrent 8 gallon 4-site system
CLW SolarSystem 1100 grow light
ACI Germination dome with lights
ACI heating pad
ACI Controller 69 pro
ACI 6" exhaust fan with refillable carbon filter
ACI 6" inline fan for intake from lung room
ACI CloudForge T7 humidifier
Vornado 1500w space heater
2x ACI CloudRay oscillating fans
2x BlueLab ph/ppm monitors
AquaticLife 4 stage RO/DI system
Active Aqua 1/10hp chiller
Alita 15 lpm air pump
General Hydroponics grow plugs

Nutrients:
Athena's Blended line
General Hydroponics RapidRooter
Plant Success Orca Liquid Mycorrhizae
Mr. Fulvic organic Fulvic Acid
0ppm RO/DI water

-------

I've been busy lately (I know.. I say it all the time) so the seedlings have quite a bit of visible roots coming out of the bottom of the netpots. I should've gotten the tent ready sooner, but I finally got around to it tonight. No plants in the system yet, but it's filled and circulating a pretty high concentration of bleach water. Whether or not it's necessary, It's a good way to get all the pipes and pumps squeaky clean. After a day, I'll swap it out for a batch with a bottle or 2 of H202 to neutralize any remaining bleach after draining. Dump that and add the plants. Couple days tops.
20250506_225839.jpg

I'll start them low and work my way up with the nutes. I won't run it nearly as hot this round. All in all, the Athena nutes worked well enough last round that I'll use them again, no hesitation. Won't be buying any more though.. just not worth the price. As much as I hated mixing those Lotus nutes, my plants were freakin' LUSH. I might consider them again in the future.

And this is for those that aren't in on the vaulted ceiling joke...
20250506_230706.jpg
A grow or so ago, I chopped the top and made my tent a convertible. It has since been modified and fused into my basement ceiling adding those extra inches we sometimes need.

So far in my four site system, I've only harvested half the plants I grew in those 2 grows. Beans were testers and I ended up with freaks in both rounds that only showed their ugly faces a few weeks into flower. I'm hoping for much better results this round. Guzzlers hit the market last year so I don't know how established it is, but HSC is at least reputable.

Any questions - feel free to ask
Criticism is welcome.

And as always,
✌️ & 💚

Hell yea, run it grump.

The raised tent ceiling looks well done.

Gj
It's pretty slick and it gave me 12-14 inches of extra headroom. I just taped it last round, but this time I added a bead a caulk around it to really give it a good seal. Shit just don't stick to the walls of tent that's been grown in. That foil tape came undone pretty early and it was a pain to deal with eventually.

I took a little longer than expected to move everybody into the tent (imagine that). They were starting to yellow up a little which is expected with little to no nutes 19 days after sprouting. I think they'll recover well enough.
20250510_231537.jpg

Surpsingly, the roots are looking pretty healthy, considering they've been exposed to light for nearly a week now. That, and they've had no aeration in the water. All things considered, I think they'll perk up pretty soon. Keep in mind, these netpots have just been sitting in a quarter inch of water in the germ dome. Nothing fancy. Regrettably, they haven't even had the heat pad on since my last post, though.
20250510_231124.jpg

I'm giving them 240ppm (500 scale) of Athena's Blended line, using their Balance as my silicate additive. I'll adjust the pH in the next coming days after it's had some time to circulate.
20250510_232801.jpg

They'll be getting their first blast of the CLW SolarSystem 1100. This thing's a beast. I have the spectrum set to CLW's recommended veg settings (49r:99w:99b) and hung as high as it'll go. If they seem to be getting too much light, I'll back it off some. Not enough and I'll lower it. I don't have an accurate light meter and I don't trust the Photone app for my S24 Ultra.

Long story short, we're on our way with roots in the water.

Here's my daughter on her 3rd birthday with some of her chickens getting their first trip outside.

They're looking better and new growth is still happening so I think we're good to go. I've backed off the light 50% to 24r:50w:50b

great to see ya around and growing a new batch Grump!!! you got any plans yet with these? mainline? scrog? el nat ter al?

nice work mounting your light right up in the rafters like that!! like ya say, every inch counts!!

how your chickens man? you daughter loving them to death?? mine were out in the rain today tilling up my garden for me!! sprinkle a little bread right where you want them to dig it up and it's cheap labor!! haha

Gonna mainline again. This time I think I'm aiming for 6 branches. 8 seems to overcrowd things.

Yep exactly. Had some mutants still reach it last run, though.

Stable genetics (not testers) this time so I'm hoping to finally harvest all 4 plants. 3 identical and 1 runt so far. Last rounds runt still smoked just fine.

Man I'm loving the shit of them. They reminded me how much I LOVED taking care of my flock of ducks years ago. I didn't realize I NEEDED some poultry in my life.

The Jersey Giants are getting big. Almost 6 weeks old now and they've gotten free range outside for the last few days. They're friendly and beautiful.

The polish are some skittish little fuckers and they kinda kinda piss me off. Like... I'm just trying to give you some scrambled eggs ya little fuckers. Why are you so frantic right now??

I've got a runt with a limp and one that started acting a little sickly yesterday. 16 total so I'm not stressing, just feel bad for the guys.

They're coming up on 4 weeks and are looking pretty ragged with their headdresses coming in full force. I'll have to snag one for a picture when I get off work in the morning.

7th day in the system and they're growing really well. Leaves good.. roots good.. s'all good
20250516_073927.jpg20250516_073940.jpg20250516_074001.jpg

Tent temp: 81-84
Rh: 58-60
Leaf temp: 76-78
Water temp: 72
Ppm: 250
PH: 5.8
Light: 35r:70w:70b

These Athena nutes do hold a rock solid res, I'll give 'em that.

nice!! i did such a terrible job in my training this round, some have eight, some twelve.. once ya start topping they seem to grow so fast and i didn't stay on top of it right away and quickly outgrew me!!! i probably over crowded this round.

ya know i never really gave much thought to this in my other grows because of the plant volume its not such a big deal but man i can see where it really affects things now. with me growing just two plants it's tough to get two the same growth rate. right now the two are the most even ones yet, but i seriously see me going back to clones again soon.

i can totally understand why you wanna go the clone route on the next round.. if you were pushing 16 plants into flowering a runt or two doesn't rally mater that much, but when you're limited and it's almost impossible to choose the best of what you started when they're that little, plus without cloning you're stuck to a fem seed and can never get the benefits of regs.

i need to collaborate my soil and hydro grows to where i can use clones versus hoping its the pheno i'm looking for.. now i just need to make room and get another tent to do it!! haha ... soon.. my neighbor said he had one for me, all i have to do is ask and i bet he'd bring it right up and even set it all for me!! haha

awwww how cute is that!!!! adorable with their crooked little beaks and mohawks!!!! they look even funnier than a regular chicks before they're feathered in!!! hahaha

have they seen themselves in a mirror yet? i sometimes record mine on my phone and play it back to them, they're funny with it all standing around the phone watching the video of themselves!!! hahahaha goofy ass birds!!!

it's about time i go let mine out for some running around, i don't let them out all day normally just two or three hours at the end of the day. fist day we've had sunshine in like a month so i can hear them out there cackling now!!! haha

nice!! i did such a terrible job in my training this round, some have eight, some twelve.. .. i probably over crowded this round.
I've overcrowded both times I mainlined so far, but both rounds were tester beans, and both rounds had 2 never stopped stretching.
right now the two are the most even ones yet, but i seriously see me going back to clones again soon.
I will be going clones regardless, eventually. Just because I want to go with 5 or six forever strains that I just keep mothers of, but that's a couple/few years away. I want to do a specific buildout for a project of the scale and not just hop along in tents.
i need to collaborate my soil and hydro grows to where i can use clones versus hoping its the pheno i'm looking for..
Man and those testers were such a pain. I'm not necessarily looking for specific phenos yet, but when half the plants stretch for 6+ weeks after the other half is stacking on weight... you're gonna have a bad time.

I'm fine with a runt... they still smoke and this one yielded nearly 8oz of some stoney terpy weed, just not my favorite terps. It's a shot in the dark when you grow a batch of testers though.

Haha yeah I love 'em. They dont like me much though..

They look like little pheasants running around. They're fun to watch, for sure.

The Jersey Giants are probly 4x their size though and only two weeks older. I hope the roosters play nice if they decide to dabble in some forbidden love 🤣

No and this is hilarious and crazy to me. The Jerseys would probably check it out but those little polish are some skittish sum' bitches.

Honestly.. I'm probably not worried enough about 'em. Ever since their first day out, they've had all day free reign. They've done well putting themselves up so I just let 'em go. Even the 4 week old barely feathered polish.

I have a nice cedar filled shelterbelt that everybody hides under so I think they're mostly safe from the hawks above. I haven't been here long enough to know whether or not I'll have a fox problem, though.

Very happy with the rebound from being overexposed in the germ dome. They've been in the system for a week and they've really started to explode.

Good color.. good growth.. nice spacing 👌
Will likely top in the next couple days.

Roots are really taking off and I couldn't be happier down below..
20250517_163951.jpg

Rock solid rez with these Athen nutes I got for free-ninety-free. Plants seem to be happy enough for now.
20250517_164211.jpg

With everything looking good and looking right, I've maxed out the light. It can still be dropped down closer to the canopy if they seem hungry for more.
20250517_164205.jpg

The environment is in a wonderful harmony. Everything automated and everything right where I want it. I'll lower the humidity to 55% so I can really start to push 'em after I see how they react to the higher light intensity.

And this one's for you @doublej. I am a man of no shame...
20250517_164342.jpg

Also a man who likes to live dangerously, I see. Judging by that beaker's proximity to the edge...

Edit to add: I didn't realize that I already posted an update this morning... night shifts get me twisted around. Either way.. look at the growth from today. Roughly 12 hours between updates and there's very noticeable growth. Boy am I glad I cranked up the light

Is the business end of your humidifier tubing at the very top of your tent? I have the smaller T3. On this one, it says not to let the tubing arc downwards. I'm asking, because I'd prefer to have it outside of the tent, but the access points in the tent walls to run the tubing through are either too low or too high. Seeing as you raised the entire roof on your tent, I guess I should be able to manage a custom entry point for the tubing 😄...

I'm all about customization. Need a hole? Add a hole 🤣

You can't see it in my pics, but yeah. It's ran through the wall there and immediately tilted upwards. It doesn't even need to be a hook in the pipe to leak condensation. Even if it's level, it'll drip. So an upward slope is necessary.

Right where it comes into the tent, I've hung a small 9 inch fan blowing on high to get the mist immediately mixing into the atmosphere and yo blow the outlet away from my light.

I'll try to remember to snap a picture in the morning.

It would probably help me to see what you have going on, if you get a chance to take a photo some time. I think I get the idea from your description, but I just keep imagining the vapor blowing above my light. I have the light hanging pretty low over some young plants, right, now.

I'm looking forward to following your current grow. You do a great job documenting things. Pretty impressive with a young'un, recent move and work 👊

It does fog right around my light, but with enough airflow, it'll mix in evenly enough. I have a lot of indirect airflow in my tent. Nothing blows right on the plants though.

i have my heater mounted in the same corner. Only issue there is the anti-tilt button coming untaped. I put a screw in the bastard the other day.

Thanks brother. I do that for you guys and for a nice reference back to past grows for myself.

The more detail I add, the less questions I have to answer 🤣

It was a big help in my early grows going through other folk's grow journals (I'm not calling it a diary).

I'm guessing the anti-tilt coming lose was telling the heater to shut off? I should pick up a heater. I'm averaging 81℉ during lights on and 68℉ with the lights off. It's my first indoor grow and I'm using a MH/HPS light that was given to me. The plants seem okay, but I hate seeing that swing in temp, vpd, humidity, etc.

Appreciate the feedback. Enjoy the rest of your weekend/time off from work.

Yeah it's just a stupid button on the bottom that shuts it off if it falls over. Safety shmafety.. can fall over if it's hung from a bar in my tent.

If I'm remembering correctly, there's nothing inherently wrong with day/night temperature swings, but a consistent temp helps to limit internodal spacing. I might be misremembering, though.

Thanks but I'm at work currently 🙃

I picked up a couple extra shifts for people taking off. I should've had last night and tonight off, but instead I'll get off at 6am and go back to work on dayshift at 6am on Monday. Monday-Friday on days and then 6 days off. So next week will be my R&R.

I understand the sentiment and thank you all the same. Hope your weekend is a good one Bob.

P.S. look up a 4 crew 12hr rotating shift called the DuPont schedule... it can suck my nuts but that's the life I'll be living for the foreseeable future. 30 more years, baby. PENSION... that's all I keep telling myself.

My brain must have glitched. I thought you were off for some reason.

We work the DuPont, too. Before moving to the 12-hour rotation, we worked the Southern Swing. In the 28 day cycle, you worked 21 days and had 7 days off.

Booo DuPont.

I've been trying to get a 7on-7off rotation brought to negotiations. 7 days, off, 7 nights, off. One flip per month seems a whole lot easier to deal with.

I forgot that picture for ya 🤣
I'll snap one here in a few minutes.
