Observers' 2x4 Space

Redid the drip slabs lol, poked a hole in the center and placed new seeds 1/4 inch down or so this time, see if I can get a more symmetrical consistent start

The seedling that is already up I may just leave it or put it in its own solo to hand water

Just to keep it even across the board for the drips sake too and even feedings

Intriguing

ill have to re-read this a few times.

The interaction between hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and citric acid (C6H8O7) is complex and depends on several factors, including the concentrations of the reactants, the temperature, and the presence of other chemicals. Here's a breakdown of the main interactions:

1. Acid-base reaction:

Citric acid is a weak organic acid, while H2O2 is a weak acid in dilute solutions. When these two compounds are mixed, they undergo an acid-base reaction, with the citric acid donating a proton to the H2O2 molecule. This reaction leads to the formation of the conjugate base of citric acid, citrate (C6H7O7¯), and the conjugate acid of H2O2, hydronium ion (H3O+).

2. Formation of peroxy-citric acid:
this part is interesting too

Citric acid also acts as a chelating agent, meaning it can form complexes with metal ions. When H2O2 is present, it can react with the metal-citrate complex to form a peroxy-citric acid intermediate. This intermediate is a stronger oxidizing agent than H2O2 alone and can participate in further oxidation reactions.

3. Oxidation of organic compounds:

H2O2 is a strong oxidizing agent, meaning it can readily donate oxygen atoms to other molecules. In the presence of citric acid, H2O2 can oxidize various organic compounds, including sugars, alcohols, and amino acids. This oxidation process can lead to the formation of various products, depending on the specific reaction conditions.

4. Decomposition:

H2O2 is a relatively unstable molecule and readily decomposes into water and oxygen, especially in the presence of light, heat, or catalysts. Citric acid can act as a catalyst for the decomposition of H2O2, accelerating the rate of this reaction.

Here are some additional factors that can influence the interaction between H2O2 and citric acid:

  • Concentration: The concentration of both H2O2 and citric acid will affect the rate and extent of the reactions described above. Higher concentrations generally lead to faster reactions.
  • Temperature: The temperature at which the reaction occurs can also affect the rate and extent of the reactions. Higher temperatures generally lead to faster reactions.
  • pH: The pH of the solution can affect the stability of H2O2 and the formation of peroxy-citric acid. A more acidic environment can favor the formation of peroxy-citric acid and enhance its oxidizing power.
  • Presence of other chemicals: The presence of other chemicals in the solution can also affect the interaction between H2O2 and citric acid. Some chemicals may act as catalysts or inhibitors for the reaction, while others may react directly with H2O2 or citric acid.

Overall, the interaction between H2O2 and citric acid is complex and multifaceted. Understanding the factors that influence this interaction is important for various applications, including the use of these chemicals in cleaning, disinfection, and chemical synthesis processes.

interesting.....something ive just stumbled on, gotta check it.

You're right to be curious about the use of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and citric acid in fertigation solutions. While both are commonly used individually, combining them can have interesting and potentially beneficial effects. Here's what we know:

Individual effects of H2O2 and citric acid in fertigation:

H2O2:

  • Oxidizes organic matter: Breaks down organic matter in the soil, potentially releasing nutrients and improving soil structure.
  • Controls pathogens: Can suppress certain soilborne diseases and pests.
  • Increases oxygen availability: Releases oxygen into the root zone, potentially improving plant growth.
  • Improves nutrient uptake: May help plants absorb nutrients more effectively.
Citric acid:

  • Chelates nutrients: Increases the availability of certain nutrients, particularly iron and phosphorus.
  • Lowers pH: Can help to adjust the pH of the soil, making it more acidic.
  • Promotes microbial activity: Stimulates the growth of beneficial soil bacteria.
Combined effects of H2O2 and citric acid:

  • Enhanced oxidation: Citric acid can act as a catalyst for the decomposition of H2O2, leading to a stronger and more sustained oxidative effect. This can be beneficial for controlling pathogens and breaking down organic matter.
  • Improved nutrient uptake: The chelating properties of citric acid can help to improve the uptake of nutrients by plants, especially when combined with the oxidizing effect of H2O2.
  • pH buffering: Citric acid can act as a buffer, helping to maintain the pH of the fertigation solution within a desired range.
  • Potential synergy: The combined effects of H2O2 and citric acid may be greater than the sum of their individual effects, leading to additional benefits for plant growth and health.
However, it's important to note that using these chemicals in fertigation also carries some potential risks:

  • Phytotoxicity: Both H2O2 and citric acid can be harmful to plants at high concentrations. Careful monitoring and adjustments to the dosage are crucial.
  • Environmental impact: Excessive use of H2O2 can disrupt the natural balance of soil microorganisms. Responsible application and disposal are essential.
  • Compatibility issues: H2O2 can react with certain fertilizers and other chemicals, causing precipitation or other unwanted reactions. Thorough research and compatibility testing are recommended.
Overall, using H2O2 and citric acid together in fertigation can be a promising strategy for improving plant growth and health. However, careful consideration of the potential benefits and risks, along with proper application techniques, is crucial for successful implementation.

It's important to consult with a qualified agricultural professional or extension agent before using any new chemicals in your fertigation system. They can help you determine the appropriate dosage, application method, and potential risks based on your specific crop and soil conditions.

Last picture, swipes my arm through and broke it in half last night/morning.

I put it in the middle of a cube and it's still alive, it should grow it's tap root/system back out.

That's the head and stem lol.

It's still alive so it should be fine.
