G$ just found out today that a groundhog/woodchuck can climb 3’ fences. 😳

AI recommended 4’+ fence and buried at the bottom. 🤣
Had one the first year here, didn't do much damage, nothing's damaged anything like that deer that chewed up my blackberry bushes, I don't think they're going to survive

It's funny you say that about the fence, true story:

When I went to buy fencing for the garden asked for 3-ft chicken wire fencing...

Clerk says "you need 7 ft deer netting"

I asked why?

he says because deer can jump six feet! 😅🤣😅

Porcupines used to dig/chew into the cottage tool shed. They’d eat the handles off of hammers, axes, anything with a lot of salty sweat.

Up in Parry Sound we were visiting our in-laws cottage. My brother-in-law asked me to drive him into town to do a food/beer run.

On the way into town we see a deer up on a small cliff beside the road, it’s behind a standard metal and post fence. As we pass it jumped over the fence and us to land on the other side of the road in a field. Total caught us off guard. Had no idea they could jump that far or high, didn’t even need a running start. 😳

I love catching Coho and Steelhead out of a couple rivers an hour from home. Haven’t been since Covid though.
Nice... that's all going on down here right now!
Going to pick up some crab pots later on..

Halibut season starts August 1st..... CAN'T WAIT!!!!.....

This is south of British Columbia about 16 miles on my side of British Columbia...just an fyi

Our run is in late May, can’t fish until after. I try a few things but have great luck with small devil spoons. Red and white work best for me but yellow and red work too.

Pretty much the only fish I still eat. I’ll do trout or salmon on occasion but usually put them back or give them away to family. Wife and some love fish.

My spots for river fishing are between Pickering and Kingston Ontario.

Getting the itch again…🎣

Yeah... it's all @Star Dog it's his fault...

I just couldn't take it anymore, after seeing his fish I knew what I needed. It's a big part of who I am, drinking took it from me, and now I'm all in on the saltwater.

We eat everything I bring in... Halibut, rock cod ,lingcod....... This will be our second halibut season of the year generally we get one in the spring and then if there's any quota left over they give it to us back in the summer.

Salmon fishing we're using flashers in little spoons and what they call hoochies on downriggers.

Halibut is a little bit different I have to build my baits, I'm not satisfied with what's on the shelf so I'll share that stuff.
It can be pretty addicting and very cost ly.....

Gotta get some returns on the boat.

That's interesting, I'm kind of glad you said that because something happened shortly after I moved in that I still can't explain and I've only told one person because it's so weird

It was lightly snowing for the first time, maybe an inch or two, it was daytime and I saw something fly by the window facing the Hayfield

Looking out I saw hoof tracks to the dividing line where it stops being my front lawn and starts being Hayfield

Then, and this is where it gets weird, at least 45 ft up the hill there's a continuation of the hoof prints running off into the woods, but I thought it impossible for anything to jump that far

So I went out front and noticed a second set of cat prints in the snow right next to the deer prints that stopped at the spot where the deer jumped up the hill

Just going by the prints I had to conclude that some kind of a cat (we have Bobcats and larger Canadian lynx here) was chasing the deer and the deer in fact made that 45' jump up a hill

It's a boy!

bog bubblegum repo... I've a female bubblegum this bad boy is going to pollinate.

I didn't think about this before, tbh breeding isn't my thing, I mean I've chucked some pollen before but there's no real passion for it I like i have for growing,i love growing, anyway its easier to pollinate a few lower buds then bin them if I'm not impressed, the alternative of growing more bubblegum seeds to find another suitable male, well it would all require some planning to get the moons aligned again?

When the time comes while I'm pollinating them I'm going to dab a few other lower buds, I've a nice variety of strains to dabble with...some good quality bubblegum terps would be epic!

@doublej Champion bro getting out on the water again, nice one🥇

Have a great weekend everyone!
Take it easy 🍻

I stopped going every weekend when I couldn’t catch a fish that didn’t have zebra muscle eggs all through it. A lot of visitors don’t empty the water out of their engines. Passed eggs to most of the places I liked to bass or pickerel fish. 😤

Most of the rivers I fish are over run with people these days. No such thing as a hidden or secluded spot anymore. Maybe if you head north for a day. 🤔

Wow. Up hill I wouldn’t have believed. Mine was above us on a cut in jumping down. It was like a 8’ high dirt cliff with a 4’ metal field fence.

To this day I only half believe it too, but the footprints in the new snow seem to show that's what happened

I only looked out because I saw something fly by the window so I really think it happened, and it was only one set of tracks from the field to the woods, it didn't come out of the woods and then go back

This fall when they cut the hay I'm going to put cones out and measure it cuz I still think about it and really want to know

It was more of a left to right jump then straight up the hill but it was also up hill, a fairly significant slope

I just wouldn’t have expected it either. I’d be looking for snow drifts hiding tracks.

When you consider my deer was just foraging in fields under no pressure and yours was running for it’s life it’s a lot easier to picture.

That's the beauty of this because it had just started snowing and there was maybe an inch on the ground and it was the first snowfall of the year, maybe two weeks after I moved here plus I saw something fly by the window. I've got to measure it I know exactly where it landed because there's a little divot in the field and like you say I'm guessing that something was nipping at its heels when it lept into the air it kind of went left to right but it also went up the hill quite a bit too. Wouldn't do any good now the hay is too high but when the hay is cut I'm going to put cones out and use a tape measure on it. this was bugging me since it happened cuz I didn't think anything could jump that far

Edit: I looked it up and it said around 30 ft longest recorded jump was 38 ft , so it's right around my guesstimate, my estimation may be high but I don't think so
