Shaded's Corner Reborn

Weird. Did you put a light meter underneath it to see what the actual output is? Could be the driver is malfunctioning.

Yep. I mean it's just my cheap o meter from Amazon but it at least gives me a general idea of light intensity. It was nowhere near the levels of ppfd I had been pushing in my closet & my 4x4. So I was running less ppfd than I ever had been before. Part of me is also leaning towards too much gypsum/calcium being added which is causing nutrient lockouts but the Phlizon was producing too much heat either way.

I got some more bad news last night in regards to my mother. They found mass in 1/5 lymph nodes so now she has to go in for bone testing this week and a CT scan. Most likely will require further treatments.

Just wonderful.

Stay positive.. I'm sure you know it but negativity and stress never help a situation and with something that's out of your hands, optimism is your only chance.

Good luck growmie.. We're all pullin' for ya 💚

This also may be a wonderful time to focus a little bit on making some medicine...some RSO and maybe get lined up with some strains that could help your mom out.

Wonderful plant in that regard. I also seen a random video of a guy explaining how the body can heal itself, he said all it really takes is energy, something I can't recall and a slightly alkaline environment and the body will heal itself....if I can dig it up I'll share it here. Just seemed like some nice quick info that would be cool to look further into.

Positive vibes your way boss

Thanks guys, your positivity must be doin' some good ;) CT scan also came back today as negative so it has not spread to any bones OR other organs. She's got one more appointment follow up and they will determine what & if she needs any radiation treatments and establish a gameplan moving forward.

That's a big slice of stress off of my plate even if not completely.

Onwards to plant & things:

Up to this stage of growth I have still not given any Gypsum or Rock Dust. I have been giving them a sprinkle of Epsom Salts once per week and 2 tablespoons of GG 2-8-4 per week. Not really seeing any major issues that usually ramp up for me right now so perhaps the Gypsum I was adding was creating a nutrient lockout? Too much Calcium can cause a lockout of Potassium, Magnesium and Iron. Will see how things go over the next couple of weeks.

Got 2 long weekends coming up so I will be relaxing as much as I can

Bro im so happy shes fighting through like a champ! Im sure it makes you feel a lot of relief too man, i couldnt imagine having to deal with that. My mom has had a few scares where she had to go in for testing but its always been negative 🤞🏻🤞🏻

I hope and pray things stay this way for your mom and you 🙏🏼 👊🏼

Appreciate the kind words @GoodShit97 your son may be a criminal but I can attest that you've always been a cool guy so I'm not sure where he gets it from ;)

They look great~!
What week flower you in?
Man miss having you around.
Need a little funny.
All of us...

I'll try to conjure up the little amount I have. Need @TSD back so I have a target to aim at lol. Coming up on week 4ish since spiky tops started forming.

Happy to hear some positive news from you Shaded!

Secondarily, those plants are starting to look like the Shaded plants we have come to know and love. I see some big donkey dicks in their future 😂

I think you are 100% correct on the lock out. One of your growers was experiencing just that. We managed to get it corrected by using epsom and top dressing with Dr Earth’s Flower Girl. I’m for sure glad you are back, is damn hard to correct a process that I don’t understand. Just more or less treating symptoms.
So happy to hear the good news on your Mom! I know this has to help your heart and nerves too.
I’m super happy you are back! Been missing da 🧙

Wow @Shaded shows how out of the loop I am. I had no idea about any of this until just now. So terribly sorry to hear about moms. Glad to hear scan came back neg though. Doubt you haven't looked into this already but I follow a FB group that seems to have people diagnosed with cancer, relative has, etc all finding off the charts benefits from RSO. I put the link below in case want to have a look. You are definitely on my mind brotha, stay strong.

So glad your moms tests came back good..my bro had lymphoma stage 4 and recovered 💪😍.it’s such a horrible feeling when a loved one is diagnosed ..it pulls hard on the ol heart strings..

ps .your girls look great bud 😃

~update

What up everyone. Apologies for the absence recently but life happens and I have not had the energy nor the mental capacity to interact much with anyone, either online or offline. Amongst the other issues and stressors going on in my life that I'm sure many of you are also experiencing my mother was recently diagnosed with cancer. She got scheduled for a Mastectomy and had her surgery last week. She's recovering and doing okay. I've been on vacation with wayyyyyyyyyyy too many Americans who seem to think that Canadians need to wait 5 years on surgery lists and I just want to tell you that just isn't true at all. Our healthcare system works and we are blessed to live in this country.

In terms of my grow, things have been very frustrating pretty much ever since I decided to expand to my 5x10. I've been fighting with nutrient availability issues, VPD, Temperatures, leaf damage, bud quality not being where it was previously etc etc. I've decided to take a step back and kind of reset. The 1000w Phlizon light that I purchased to stick in the 5x10 has since been removed, and I have a strong feeling that this light was a huge contributor to a lot of my problems in my grow recently. When I took the light out, I could see that the LED beam had physically light bleached the light fixture itself as well as all of my grow poles inside the tent. Not only that but temps with this light bar were atrocious and that was still an issue mostly running the light at 30-50% intensity.

-I've removed the Phlizon FD8000
-I will be using my SF 4000, SE3000, and a random 150w LM301H quantum board panel are being used - 900w total/450w per 5x5 square
-I am reusing soil from my previous grow, this is the first time I have done this
-I have NOT used any Gypsum, or Azomite at all so far this grow (still using Epsom salts)
-I have barely given them any nutrients at all. Probably around 2 tablespoons of 4-4-4 while they were vegging for 2 months in the closet, maybe another 1-2 tablespoons of 4-4-4 after they were put into the 5x10 and I gave them 2 tablespoons of 2-8-4 over the weekend.
-I am going to be moving towards a weekly top dress of 1-2 tablespoons versus 4 week blocks of 3 tablespoons per gallon of soil (normally I would have given 21 tablespoons to a 7 gallon pot over 4 weeks so this is quite a lot less nutrients)

The plants are doing good even though I neglected them far too long in the closet, didn't transplant them soon enough, didn't start training them early enough, and didn't give them enough space to grow so they look kinda funny and I won't be doing my usual scrog top this time around. I don't care for yields at this point I just want to get my bud quality back to where it was a year ago.

I'll take some time over the next week or two to catch up on threads. Hope everyone is doing well 🧙‍♂️

Hey shaded, really sorry to hear about your mom 🙏 thoughts and prayers to your mom.

Glad to see you getting back into your grow and starting to post again. I'm sure you will right the ship in no time!!

Awsome news about your mom!!!

Guess whose back back back....back again, and sorry for bailing on yall! Life happens. Shaded is no longer single, and over that time period he took a lengthy hiatus from growing & smoking altogether. My girl moved in almost a year ago and unfortunately I just didn't really have the space in my house to be doing any sort of growing anymore(doesn't help that she also hates the smell, will need to figure that out). My "grow room" was rebranded as the office/makup room lol. As of a few weeks ago my smoking hiatus was officially absolved, but I will not be doing it at the frequency that I used to. I also have a 2x2 tent on the way that I will toss my SE3000 into and slowly get myself back into the groove. I can't believe how much I have forgotten, I may need to read my own damn guides :cautious:

Great to see you man!!!

The OG is back!

I'm sorry to hear about the bad shit but glad to hear you're still trucking and things aren't as bad as they once were.

I know exactly what you mean about your girl not liking the smell, I'm in the same boat. Had to downsize my operation to keep the peace, just doing 2 plants in a 2x4. What helped me with smell was carbon filters at every level. Two for intake, one for exhaust, and smell is near non-existent when tent is zipped up. I need to change filters before next run, seemed to last about 2 years

Again, really great to see you back!! Much love!

good to see ya back Shaded!!!

i agree with Ninja on the carbon filter.. i recently got one and i've been very impressed on how well it works. i stopped exhausting to the outside for the winter.

You as well @steamroller @ninjadip @Stoneyluv . I've got some catching up to do on some threads over the next little while!

I will 100% need to carbon filter the hell out of every input and output haha. I am a little concerned come flower time, but I am most worried about harvest time and finding a place to dry the buds. I will most likely get murdered if I try to do it in my bath tub as per usual. Might need to look into the mini wine cooler thang.

What size of pots are you doing in the 2x4 ninja? 5 gals?

I actually went with 4 gallon square buckets, literally packed tight with roots at the end.

I was just thinking about the harvest, so that's a difficult time. Best advice, get her out the house for a day, and dry in the tent with all the carbon filtering, it works. Trim time is also tricky, same thing get her out the house for the day. But outside of that she doesn't complain at all about it, i even have a small HEPA filter in the living room just for an added measure, which helps when trimming or chopping.

Man it's good to see you back!

Pic attached if 4 gallon bucket last harvest, which was very recent, just put into Grove bags Friday. I liked the tent dry this run, no fans inside this time, just air in and out using intake and exhaust, nice 2 week dry at almost perfect 60/60.

I'd give you my wine cooler if you weren't in Canada lol, i don't use it anymore. Just sitting there, only used it for two runs years ago when i was doing too much lol. She gave me an ultimatum she hated the smell so much, now we are good and it's a non issue, happy wife happy life lol.

Re flowering smell, only escapes when tent is opened, so i try to only do when she's not here.

It's the thought that counts right?? The tariffs at the border would probably break my bank account anyways 😉 look at the root balls on those gals! Hooooly smokes. Looking VERY nice ninja. I'm absolutely going to have to work on that happy wife happy life balance thing. I'm so used to my bachelor pad life and just doing whatever the hell I damn please. Oh well, I'm just happy that she's given me a bit of a green light to get back into it. She knows how much I miss it and how happy it makes me.

Good call with using the tent to dry, duh! My brain is paused in the perpetual grow mindset that the obvious wasn't so obvious lol

Thank you for the compliment! Love some hydro root porn

Yeah she said i could do ONE plant and i convinced her if doing one might as well do two! 😆

That was our compromise from my once 15+ plants at the thick of it.

Same here, she knows i love the hobby, it brings me peace when life gets crazy. I got to clean tent and get ready for next run maybe this weekend.

Sounds like we are in similar boats! Life is all about compromise I guess. Hopefully in the next 5-10 years we will eventually move into a larger place, and maybe then I will get to build myself a man shed outside like @steamroller :)

What strain(s) are you going with for your next run? I'm still trying to decide what I want to do myself.

The last batch of seeds I picked up were from QC Seeds, and my very last run before the hiatus was their Black Gold. I still have around 300g of this stuff sitting in untouched Grove Bags so I'm good for a long time at my current rate of consumption(RoC):

When the 2x2 gets here on Monday I have decided I will try out their Quebec Gold 2.0 strain next:

I haven't decided if I want to do 1x10 gallon plant or 2x5 gallon plants but I've still got a few days to make up my mind.

Cheers 🧙‍♂️

EDIT: might have to consider 1x5 gallon or 2x3 gallons....I've never grown in anything as small as a 2x2. I think I had 4x5 gallons in my closet which was 2x4.

Welcome back bro, glad to hear life is looking up!
Still over here running your method, I have no complaints, the shit works man.
Gonna run your mix in 20g pots when I move in my new place and have the space, I noticed the more soil the better it is.

20 gallon is going to be a BEAST! Looking forward to that @GoodShit97

Largest pot I ran was I believe a 15 gallon in my 4x4. There's just something cathartic about growing big plants.
Glad to hear and see that my guides have helped people out, it was def a bit of a learning curve when I first started. And it's been fun to see what changes and modifications other people have been doing with the recipe. I have said and will always say growing with organic dry amends isn't an exact science, and part of the fun is having to tinker and adjust as we go.

You can even blow some bong hits in the tent once in a while too lol, it will get filtered out for a quick sneak rip once in a while 😎

I haven't decided yet, this weekend i need to pull them out and decide and then mail some to one of our buddies on here. I got these one off freebies I'm thinking about like unicorn poop lol

I'm not looking to get murdered sooooo sneaky bong rips into the tent won't be on my list of things to try! haha

I got 4 seeds in some paper towel germinating right now but I am 95% sure I will just do one plant in a 7 gallon pot. 5% of me figures I might do a 2x3 gallon grow if 2 of the seedlings look strong. My tent should get delivered tomorrow and then it's go time.

@ninjadip I've also been considering grabbing a roll of activated carbon filter material. Any thoughts or tips on how to block up my intakes? I mean the simple answer is tape or something but I figure its best to reach into the think tank

I use a black sponge I have for/from my fish tanks.
Used to be expensive buying Poret mat sponges but Amazon has mat sponges relatively cheap now.
I got a 2 inch thick 12.5X23 inch sponge for $15.
I roll it up and use it in my tent vents. You could easily do two vents with one sponge cut to 6X23. That might even still be too big/long and you could cut it again. At first I though of cutting the circle shape but that would only be 2 inches thick and as it turns out rolling a straight flat piece is way easier.
They block light and flow air freely. I just stick them out and draw the tie string real tight.

You got a pic you can share here steamroller? Sounds pretty simple enough though, get activated carbon filter roll, cut to size, shove in hole and tighten 🧠

I remember seeing these things years ago but never really pulled the trigger:
