What are you guys using the heat your water in the winter?

I haven't had to but I think Stoney uses an aquarium heater, or plans to.

Keeping my tent around 80 keeps my water temps while up allowing my chiller to run much less.

My basement stays roughly the same temps throughout the year.

Yeah in a pinch.

This was when I used Lotus nutes. They were much more of a pain to mix. I haven't had to with Athena's. Now it only takes maybe 10 or 20 minutes to mix a batch after it's filled. So really, if I have the time to top it up, I probably have the time to mix a batch.

My work schedule isn't nearly as chaotic as it was last summer, also. So maybe it had nothing to do with the Nutes.

i got ya now, i understand. i almost forgot about the lotus nutes.. were those the nutes that were all stinky when you first mixed them?

it's in there now but not plugged in. my water will get in the low 60's without it. maybe even lower now that ii've insulated the buckets.

not 100% just yet, it was one of four things... could be my homemade ph up and down, at one point i did in fact have something in my water so maybe when i made the gallons worth i used that bad water?? TBD...

so up is #1 down is #2, almost the same was the buffer agsil16 that i also pre mixed in that same water.. could be #3..

It’s nice because I leave it a little low so it’s softer. Let’s me lean sideways more and not try to tip me. I do it upside down as well. Feels good on the bad back. But I have the small table or a cane to use to sit back up when doing it upside down.

Tip: put on sunglasses before doing this! PITA if you forget.

Or is there another factor that dictates here?

If you mean what’s the distance from the base of the plant to the top of the table/net yes it does matter.

CG noted it earlier and iirc Stony echoed it. It’s lower for Indica.

Regardless which strain you need to have the plant about 6” taller than the net height so it pushes/crushes down the plant. If you let it grow into the plant that’s trellising.

that overall height comes from Granny's experience of how tall the plant should be so that when stretch it over it fills out the screen. the extra growth is to put pressure and a little stress on the plant to redirect it's efforts in growth.

i'm new to it so i'll learn as well.. back when i started all this i asked Granny to help me, then i had all those issues and i've had her on retainer ever since!! haha now that things are back on track she's gonna guide me through the rest. she's flipping her's very soon and will shoot a video of it..

so i lower the screen, trim the bottom leaves, do a change out to flowering nutes, and flip the lights all on the same day.

right now i'm only at 25R -50W- 50B on the lights.. these are the Gen1 one you have. one one hahaha!! so on that day i'll also pump up the red!!

being a little ballsy here.. unproven float being left unattended for twenty minutes or so.. i ran a real screw into the drum to hold that bracket on though!!



making my uppers high test is working out really good for increasing my EC... with top off's it's been going up 10 ppm every day. i'm now up to 750. this is what GH chart shows bare minimum for the age on the "light feed" chart. this is the most ppm i've thrown at them to date. once i get to where i think enough is enough i'm going to top off the upper with water till it matches and let that top off holding steady.

but i hope i didn't fuck that mix up, @GrumpAzz i been meaning to ask you man, when i mixed this ten gallons up i forgot to add the cal/mag.. i had the recipe writen down and everything and forgot to write in the cal/mag.. i realized it after i was totally done and went and added it anyway like ten minutes later.. is this a huge no no? i just now remembered to ask you when i peeked in on the uppers and saw some schmeg along along the solution level.. you think thats from the cal/mag not blended properly?



i can't believe i screwed that up to, right when everything is going good.. it's only that small amount so it's no biggie if you think i should toss it? plants aren't upset... with switching vessels and that i can't really eye ball the volume being used.

one thing i know i'll be doing in that white top off is making gallon graduation marks on the inside so i can tell exactly how many gallons or in it and was in it.

I've done this before too. I don't think that it's terribly detrimental. I get that schmeg in my top-off regardless. It's like the solution doesn't wholly mix until it's been circulating through the system. It doesn’t accumulate in the lowers and I mix the shit out of the top-off with my drill and paint mixer. Maybe just keep a close eye on your pH. I'd think that if it was a mistake at all, that's gonna be your first indicator. Or if you start seeing any calcium deficiencies, mix a new batch quick. The schmeg though... meh.

Nice! I hope it works for you. I got the idea from work years ago. HR gave one to a worker that complained about back issues. She used it as a chair for her remaining time there. My back was okay back then. I got this one after my accident.

1 thing came to mind, light penetration to lower nodes when a plant is that bushy and tight node spacing.

it was heavy blue and white with only half the amount of red.

just today i bumped the red up to a pre flower spectrum. so right now starting today reds and whites are up and blue down half. i'll drop that blue down to just 40% once we see pistils.

most of the wattage of these lights come from the red diodes so just that spectrum change also increased the ppfd.

1 thing came to mind, light penetration to lower nodes when a plant is that bushy and tight node spacing.

yes this could be a concern. one thing i have gong for me is those lights.. CLW uses Osram diodes, the best in the biz when it comes to penetration!!!

nothing is really stretching bad or growing slow so i'm gonna keep the course.. believe me man i never intended to grow them like this, they did it all on their own!!

this whole time i could have been defol mode but honestly, it took me a year of looking at sad dead seedlings over and over so if these plants wanna grow leaves i'm gonna let them!!!!!!!!!

i agree, i could. but for this first time ever using a screen and net i asked Granny for her guidance and want to go by her book and just like Zen said, we're waiting for at least six inches taller than the screen to squash and put pressure on the tops. it's that same time when i'll lollipop the bottoms out.. some of the lower branches might not even make the screen and will most likely get trimmed off.

it won't be much longer though man... i'm really hoping for next weekend. and a few friends here have also recently flipped or just getting ready to as well so it will be cool to flower out with close to the same timing.

and the seeds for my next round of soil are getting dropped this weekend!!! all kinds of fun stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would say give them a nice trim before the screen goes down. It'll be a bitch to get to the back part of those suckers once they get the smash and mesh with the screen.

for sure man. i plan to set a bucket with solution on a short swivel table and park a comphy ass chair right in front of it and go to town!!!

i need to make an imaginary line around them to have a trim line to go by. you know how that is once ya get rolling with scissors its easy to go to far!! my general rule of thumb with all living plants is never prune more than 40% of the plant, so i have a feeling i'm gonna be close to that and want to have a guide to go by.. maybe pick up some of that spray snow stuff and spray all the stuff i wanna get rid of!!! hahaha

something else i need to drop back on is my auto top off. it was working perfect with a small amount of top off solution but now that i've filled the barrel is creates a little too much pressure and even after the pump shuts off the line continues to siphon into the rez. the one night i caught it with like 1/8" of room before it would have overflowed!!! all the roots got washed that night!!!! hehehe

so i need to make a vacuum break in the line, after messing with it for a few minutes i think i can get away pretty ez with an eight or ten inch piece of bigger tubbing to let air past the liquid.

for now i'm just running it only when i'm right there.
