So I mix 50 gallons in my Top-off. Then, I move whatever fits into the plant sites after draining them.

I'm not very consistent though. Sometimes I'll mix my top-off to the desired EC and sometimes I mix it a little hot so that it slowly raises the EC of the plant sites.

I like keeping nutes in the top-off, though. I don't want to add to it every day. Plus, the only way this chart makes sense to me is if the top-off is the same EC/pH as the plant sites.
2519-66bc3d634012fe5a9a80ff3cdc3a5de6.jpg

It all just depends on how I see my plants doing. If they seem to be doing fine, I'll have a hotter top-off. If they demand a bit more of my attention, I'll match them and try to diagnose what's going on via that chart.

I can go two weeks or more before amending my water. Sometimes I don't touch it until the top-off is nearly empty. I usually have 20-30 gallons after filling the plant sites. By the time they've sucked it dry, it's usually time for a res change.

It was part of Bill Farthings 321 formula along with silica.
@Aqua Man could speak volumes on this.
I'll have to research what that formula entails. Why does that name sound familiar, like the founder of AA? IDK lol

Realized that my ppm and ph sensor had some gunk on it and was throwing it off. The numbers make much more sense now. Was so tired doing everything else, I forgot to clean the probes when transplanting everything.

Have some mr fulvic and neem coming in the mail. Maybe it's in my head but I feel a foliar spray of neem in veg helps prevent future problems.

Was a thread back at the other place.
Bill was pretty respected. Aquaman had a lot of input.

Pay attention to the veg and flower ratios and adjust accordingly to your veg times. These are a great source of information if you use it correctly
thank you for sharing that, i will definitely be referring to that and it helps to see it represented that way.
just pasted it right next to the mix/check-in chart i'm using

Is that your control res or is there another bucket outside the tent?

I find it really helpful having mine outside. It allows for adjustments during the dark cycle when necessary.

Yeah that's the control res. Wanted to keep it simple this time. At flip I'll set the schedule so the lights on will be when I'm there after work. Hoping it will all work out lol. I'm generally only home, awake, for two hours outside of work schedule. I will schedule the light cycle to put this window right in the middle of lights on.

I am trying this time to make less adjustments and let it be, we will see how that turns out.

I have a Ph down feed in there set to the controller. Top off res is outside the tent. Biggest thing I'm worried about is how fast they will drink in the peak of flower. I might need to upsize the top off res I believe from 5 gallon to 10-15.

How you doing today @GrumpAzz ?

No problems with a relatively stable res.

Nice. I've never considered a dosing controller. Luckily, these Athena nutes have been surprisingly stable. I haven't adjusted pH after a res change yet. 5 or 6 done so far.

I make my top-offs large enough to fit the full volume of the lower resevoirs for a quick and easy change-out. Block my float valve, mix a batch, drain the lowers and fill from above, unblock the float.

I've also read that when the plants drink what amounts to the full volume of the plant-sites, it's time for a res change. Decent rule of thumb.

My plants are straight chugging water though. More than a gallon per day per plant.

How you doing today @GrumpAzz ?
Man.. I'm doing good today. I'm a little bummed with our upcoming schedule change, but my wife and daughter were awake when I left so they got a goodbye kiss for once. That's enough to make it a great day.

How's Ninja?

I'm doing good. Marriage was a little shaky past few weeks...
I believe we made up and have a good plan going forward to turn it around. It does take work sometimes...

School is going good, made honor roll two terms last year. Doing my masters right now in data analysis

Car has expired inspection, need to put a new drl bulb housing in car but too fucking cold lately to work on a car without a garage.

I'm loving this coffee I got from my boss. Juan valdez I think it's called, not my boss name lol

Communication and understanding is KEY to every relationship. If ya'll can talk and reason, you'll be fine. I'm in my second marriage. This one is a lot meaner (🤣) than my last, but we talk and communicate and I've never been happier. We're expecting a little boy in August and I'm so dagum pumped!

Are there any fears of AI replacing data analysts?

Either way, a Master's in ANY field is an accomplishment. Props to you there, man. Keep up the hard work!

That's for sure. My mostly indoor job has all but ruined my cold tolerance. Being an electrician in the cold months was always a struggle, but now I get the shivers just thinking about taking the trash to the curb 🤣

You grind your own beans? I've found that it hardly matters what brand... ground beans are just so much better. I've got a subscription to Raven's Brew coffee club. I chose them because they had the most dark roasts to choose from. Also... one of their roasts is called Three-Peckered Billygoat. Couldn't pass that up 🤣

beans beans beans
yes it's all about the beans!
i have this sweet machine that grinds just enough coffee for the double shot. maybe it's just me or because i'm using it for espresso, but i have found some beans that i don't like or just aren't strong enough for me. also, that some beans make a very different looking espresso shot, different levels and color of crema. i don't want to be boogie, but i fucking love the taste of my own latte with my homemade almond milk. i think i mentioned wife got the machine at work for $75 or something when it's like a 500-700 machine.
when i'm on the road, i love a mom and pop coffee shop especially with a cool name like "cool beans" or "giddy-up"(in horse country), real places i've been to lol. if the wife and i are traveling on a trip, i always make a point to find and go to a local coffee place. i'm a talker, so i like talking to the barrista about where we're from, ask them about the locale, yada yada

one thing i noticed is that the coffee i have now from colombia is a very small bean, almost half the size of the last bag i had that was kirkland supremo (their darkest).
it totally grinds differently too, seems to have much fluffier grounds and overfills the thing with the same amount of beans that it took to fill it up before.

i would love to get on a coffee club, that sounds awesome!

Yeah, AI is replacing a lot of IT jobs, for sure. but i got to shoot for the moon or kick myself for not trying. i'm the black sheep in the family, never really even thought i would get even a 4year degree let alone a masters. it will be a great accomplishment for sure, thank you for your love

so i work with data all day right now, and people, and the only time i use AI is for help articulating a company wide message based on the insight i have from the data. the hardest thing for me right now is learning how to navigate the fucking corporate office political gauntlet. it's a beast that still pisses me off as i'm learning i just have to accept it because that's the fucking way it is and i'm close to the bottom. breathe breathe...
i guess all i can say to that is, I'm sure one day ai will replace all of us, but today is not that day lol

let me make a fucking coffee and take another hit to start this day proper

Yeah I'm just using a Bunn auto-dripper but I need a bit more than a shot. I take a whole pot to work and sip on it for the first couple hours of the day. I do love a good latte, though, and that's what I order if I'm out and will only be having a cup.

Man not me.. I hate small talk. Well actually, I love it and hate it at the same time. I struggle internally, being internally socially awkward. However, with my time as an electrician, I've been forced into so many conversations with GCs and homeowners. I love meeting and learning about people, though. I'm pretty empathetic and I enjoy finding and making connections. The conversing with strangers is just so intimidating at first.

i would love to get on a coffee club, that sounds awesome!
There are so many to choose from. I really like the espresso blend from Raven's brew. It's called Ebony Pearls. I usually get two shipments of that one before switching it to something else.

They're projecting robots even replacing manual labor by 2050. Hanging drywall and snaking your toilets. Wiring your house and and putting solar on the roof. Shit's wild to think about.

I joined atlas coffee yesterday

already shipping me a bag. i liked the idea of having coffee curated for me lol. i wanted whole beans, and dark roast or that i will be primarily using these beans for espresso. supposed to be a bag from a different country every month for cheap, like $12. supposed to be the best of the best... these 2 guys from texas are going around the world finding beans, bringing them to texas, roasting them and immediately shipping them out to the subscribers. sounds good on paper. for the price, it's not much of a gamble, so fingers crossed it's good shit lol

i'm curious of your opinions once you try it man.

i'm very new to the whole bean world and have tried these three kinds so far...

the Peets was the worst coffee i ever drank, period!
the volcanica is okay, wouldn't spit it out. but not very dark roasted tasting. might be a good summer coffee for me, the cherry and citrus really come out in it. i prefer the dark chocolate taste on the backend.
the eight oclock is pretty freakin good. smooth, rich, and bold. nice chocolate on the backend!

but i know there has to be something better out there though, i just need to find!! kinda like THE best weed!! keep trying em all till i find it!! hehe

ok, first batch is in!
I haven't even tasted it yet, but i'm crazy psyched lol. i have a few more beans to grind before i'm done with my current bag, btw, this was probably my favorite tasting bean ever (i can't remember what variation, but it was my first juan valdez)

I smelled the beans putting them into my bean container.... and fuck i want them so bad!

I've had peets... i thought it was supposed to be good???!?!? i was like wtf as well. i had that same roast that you did.
now i haven't had all the coffees in the world... but i was using the mayorga for a while (found it at costco) and also the kirkland dark roast (supremo) or something. The kirkland supremo is strong, taste... maybe 6.5/10. The mayorga a 8/10 in taste and 6/10 in strength. the juan valdez 9.5/10 on taste, and maybe 7/10 strength (this wasn't even their strong/dark roast blend). by comparison i think starbucks is often trash... i almost always find really good tasting coffee at the smaller places, that sometimes do their own roasting.

ok.. on to the new:
love the packaging, love the history of coffee with the country of origin, love the smell of the beans, they smell damned good, and really like the idea of helping the small farmer out (if the story is to be true, that these are small farm sourced). reminds me of craft beer in the coffee world. small batches, amazing taste, not enough for everyone, lol

i'll update in a week once i try the new beans!

1738536330885.jpeg
1738536341209.jpeg1738536348837.jpeg

btw, i think i have a promo code for anyone who wants to sign up, i'm not a sponsor, just want to share coupons, i thinks it's
WELCOME50
to get 50% off the first month or something.

more coffee news, just made a cup earlier, and the wife was like, you're making coffee?? cause i usually never make it in the evening, and i was like yeah.. i got to use these beans up, i can't wait to try the new stuff! like a little kid

so i brew the double shot for my latte and she smells it and asks for a cup, she is not the biggest fan of coffee. i give her maybe 3/4 of a shot and then some steamed almond milk, this is that juan valdez. she just looks at me at her eyes light up... god bless her, she tells me this tastes amazing! i said i know, it's crazy how good it is. so then i make another double shot and end up having a triple shot latte... so good, that perfect shot is never bitter. it's crazy i was telling my wife how this can taste so good without any flavorings or any bs. i think it was the juan valdez balanced, honestly the best taste i've ever had, the 3x shot was more like a standard 1x shot of real dark beans though, strength wise. maybe the juan valdez dark roast is something you would like?

we were joking about bringing the machine next time we go camping... just plop it up on the picnic table at the camp site and open up shop, lol!

Got the Mr. Fulvic in the hydro mix for a week or two now.

Is it me or when using this the EC can be lower than without it, as the mix is used by the plants more efficiently with the fulvic?

Right now I'm at 0.45 EC and they are loving it.

Absolutely correct… it helps make nutrients more available.

Aqua Man, how does humic acid work different from fulvic?

i ask because i was looking to buy some Mr fulvic and accidentally bought mr humic. ingredients and percentages look similar amongst the two products.
Yeah i think its the same product if i remember correctly but goes by either mr. Fulvic or mr.Humic depending where you get it… dont take that as fact but it rings a bell.

You want fulvic for hydro and either fulvic or humic for soil. Kinda like you want synthetic nutes for hydro and organic or synthetic for soil.

Fulvic is more soluble.

it was a small bottle that i bought so i'm not going to return it, i'll just use it and hope it's the same. gotta be similar, both labels list 4.5% fulvic and 1.35% humic

i'm gonna give it a try, the bottle doesn't even mention soil application so i'm betting it's the same...

just saw this.... party on!!!!!!!!!!

512hgOKpRTL._SL1000_.jpg

lol, i'm late to the party, was about to be like yep, that's right, it's the same. good thing is that the product is still available in those states, but that naming can be confusing for sure.

got this young one here that i just put some training clips on and i decided to take a peek under the hood after today's res change, and also a pic to show my friend how his RODI water is treating my grow...

I have had ups and downs trying to have a live res in more than one run, but now that i'm on RODI water, I have had the healthiest roots i've ever had...it's been effortless. i just get so happy seeing them so white and alive.
bennies:
hydro guard and tps billions

man, idk why but i love seeing these white af roots! with a rope tap root coming out of the pot (this is the smaller plant of the 2)
1739076292624.jpeg

one more week, then flip!!

I want max stretch, or at least i think i do, been training the older one down too long. red light cycle starting today, flip next week to 12/12.
i think that should really make them climb, i have a few feet of head space i want to utilize
if i see too much stretch i'll reduce far red time

sounds like a good plan right?

hey, i absolutely love the first bag i got from peru. i can't wait until the next one! the subscription price is the same as what i'm paying at the store
so, i meant to say if you were hesitant about signing up, if you do the one bag every 4 weeks it's $12 i think after shipping and everything. i think it's an awesome subscription, atlas

yeah thanks for that coupon too!!! i'm gonna get some to try!! $12 a bag is better than average, cheaper than some of the ones i bought so far anyway!

i recently tried black rifle company's murdered out and also kicking horse's grizzly claw. they're both good. but to be honest i still prefer the eight oclock beans better. having a cup right now before the stupid bowl!

.

your plants are lookin on point man!! you got er dialed in just right!! can't stop staring at those roots!!!!!!!!!

help (I whisper from the well, embarrassed I fell down here to begin with)

As I am doing my best to continue to learn how to read the leaves, but not sure if i'm looking at a calcium or if i'm way off lol

to me, by comparison to online pictures, it looks like calcium deficiency.
This is my first RODI run, so maybe i'm not adding enough?

Last res change, I did 30mL/8 gal, product is GH Calmag

@BigTerps so you concur with my diagnosis?
Gh cal mag says normal dose is a teaspoon per gallon. Heavy dose 2 teaspoons per gallon..
A teaspoon=5 ml
2 teaspoons=10 ml per gallon

So imo 30 ml for 8 gallons is little low going by GH reccomendations..
Cal mag deficiency ive seen usually affects newest growth first..
Growth rate slows, rust spots, etc...
Maybe a more experienced hydro grower will chime in?
Id bump it up to at least 5ml per gallon and watch newest growth..
Hopefully u get it straightened out man..
👊✌️
