Everything Ninjadip

why is this, do you know? is it keeping the seals from drying out?

i've found out that if i leave my pond pump submerged year long versus taking it out over the winter makes them last longer.
All the DC pumps [ even the most expensive German ones] are prone to leaking from bad plastic casting.
When it comes to inline/ dry pumps I defer to Mag flow or Blue Line.

Looking good bro 👌

I have found myself adding Epsom salt early on using RODI. EVERY plant of mine has shown signs of Mag deficiency.

I'm running Athena nutes this round and their feedchart calls for CaMg throughout the grow. Same when I ran Lotus nutes. With GH, I cut it way back after the stretch but never stopped adding it.

Most people have enough in their water but that RODI strips everything. You know that, though.
hey @GrumpAzz !!

re epsom salt: so this is to add more mag because the GH calmag+ ratio isn't optimal for RODI water? How do I incorporate this? I imagine I would cut back on the calmag if adding more mag, but curious what ratios you used

re calmag: yes, so cut back after the stretch. sounds like a plan!

do you add any organics like kelp?

I like this brand, bloom city, that claims they have more varieties of kelp than others. I use their kelp and silica, GH trio for nutes.

Those pumps are BEAST~!
Keep it submerged rather than dry/inline and it will last years.
I have been using Jeboa/Jecob DC pumps in my aquariums for years.
Real nice when you don't want to add heat.👊
i believe i only found out about the brand because of you bro, thank you!
yes, i had a bigger one and gave that to my friend when i gifted the big 4 site rdwc to him.
but man this little one is crazy impressive!
no more paint mixer on the drill to mix nutes, the pump in this system is powerful enough to mix the nutes up plenty! even at 50%!

What i'm jamming to rn:
Butterflies - boris

I usually just mix a concentrated gallon and add about 50-100 ppm to the solution.

I use Orca. It's a pretty good mix of several strains of bacteria and fungi. I add about 20ml to the plant sites after a res change.

Also use Mr Fulvic in the plant sites at the same dose.

yes, yes. i forgot all about ol' mr. fulvic, that sly mofo
i definitely believe in the science behind it. great to add in flower, right? i forget

I use it at every res change. I just don't use it on seedlings until their roots are in the water.

Oh wow.. so they recommend using it MORE on a seedling? Gonna have to remember that.
Yeah idk that either, going to order some today.

Hey grumps, do you have a nute solution in your top off res or 0ppm water?

This is my first one and I thought I just use plain water, but what I'm seeing is that as it tops off the system it is lowering my ph, causing me to have to add ph up, something I'm not used to seeing. But it makes sense.

Wondering if I should put some ph up in that top off res, or switch the ph controller to ph up instead of down and flip the setting.

Plants are looking good! Got that VPN dialed in, lights at 50%, EC started at 0.92 Wednesday and now 0.75, maybe a gallon missing from top off now, baby plant was topped beginning of the week and is sending out new side shoots on schedule, water 70-72f, roots look good, everything seems to be going good.

Funny how this design is much smaller than my last but I'm liking this one a lot lot more.

So I mix 50 gallons in my Top-off. Then, I move whatever fits into the plant sites after draining them.

I'm not very consistent though. Sometimes I'll mix my top-off to the desired EC and sometimes I mix it a little hot so that it slowly raises the EC of the plant sites.

I like keeping nutes in the top-off, though. I don't want to add to it every day. Plus, the only way this chart makes sense to me is if the top-off is the same EC/pH as the plant sites.

It all just depends on how I see my plants doing. If they seem to be doing fine, I'll have a hotter top-off. If they demand a bit more of my attention, I'll match them and try to diagnose what's going on via that chart.

I can go two weeks or more before amending my water. Sometimes I don't touch it until the top-off is nearly empty. I usually have 20-30 gallons after filling the plant sites. By the time they've sucked it dry, it's usually time for a res change.

It was part of Bill Farthings 321 formula along with silica.
@Aqua Man could speak volumes on this.
I'll have to research what that formula entails. Why does that name sound familiar, like the founder of AA? IDK lol

Realized that my ppm and ph sensor had some gunk on it and was throwing it off. The numbers make much more sense now. Was so tired doing everything else, I forgot to clean the probes when transplanting everything.

Have some mr fulvic and neem coming in the mail. Maybe it's in my head but I feel a foliar spray of neem in veg helps prevent future problems.

Was a thread back at the other place.
Bill was pretty respected. Aquaman had a lot of input.
Ballin' On a Budget- THE RECIPE.

Pay attention to the veg and flower ratios and adjust accordingly to your veg times. These are a great source of information if you use it correctly
thank you for sharing that, i will definitely be referring to that and it helps to see it represented that way.
just pasted it right next to the mix/check-in chart i'm using

Is that your control res or is there another bucket outside the tent?

I find it really helpful having mine outside. It allows for adjustments during the dark cycle when necessary.

Yeah that's the control res. Wanted to keep it simple this time. At flip I'll set the schedule so the lights on will be when I'm there after work. Hoping it will all work out lol. I'm generally only home, awake, for two hours outside of work schedule. I will schedule the light cycle to put this window right in the middle of lights on.

I am trying this time to make less adjustments and let it be, we will see how that turns out.

I have a Ph down feed in there set to the controller. Top off res is outside the tent. Biggest thing I'm worried about is how fast they will drink in the peak of flower. I might need to upsize the top off res I believe from 5 gallon to 10-15.

How you doing today @GrumpAzz ?

Makes sense. I'm sure you'll have it handled.

No problems with a relatively stable res.

Nice. I've never considered a dosing controller. Luckily, these Athena nutes have been surprisingly stable. I haven't adjusted pH after a res change yet. 5 or 6 done so far.

I make my top-offs large enough to fit the full volume of the lower resevoirs for a quick and easy change-out. Block my float valve, mix a batch, drain the lowers and fill from above, unblock the float.

I've also read that when the plants drink what amounts to the full volume of the plant-sites, it's time for a res change. Decent rule of thumb.

My plants are straight chugging water though. More than a gallon per day per plant.

How you doing today @GrumpAzz ?
Man.. I'm doing good today. I'm a little bummed with our upcoming schedule change, but my wife and daughter were awake when I left so they got a goodbye kiss for once. That's enough to make it a great day.

How's Ninja?

My plants are eating 15 to 17 gal/day so every 3 days i would be doing a change.

I don't agree with that rule

I'm doing good. Marriage was a little shaky past few weeks...
I believe we made up and have a good plan going forward to turn it around. It does take work sometimes...

School is going good, made honor roll two terms last year. Doing my masters right now in data analysis

Car has expired inspection, need to put a new drl bulb housing in car but too fucking cold lately to work on a car without a garage.

I'm loving this coffee I got from my boss. Juan valdez I think it's called, not my boss name lol

Communication and understanding is KEY to every relationship. If ya'll can talk and reason, you'll be fine. I'm in my second marriage. This one is a lot meaner (🤣) than my last, but we talk and communicate and I've never been happier. We're expecting a little boy in August and I'm so dagum pumped!

Are there any fears of AI replacing data analysts?

Either way, a Master's in ANY field is an accomplishment. Props to you there, man. Keep up the hard work!

That's for sure. My mostly indoor job has all but ruined my cold tolerance. Being an electrician in the cold months was always a struggle, but now I get the shivers just thinking about taking the trash to the curb 🤣

You grind your own beans? I've found that it hardly matters what brand... ground beans are just so much better. I've got a subscription to Raven's Brew coffee club. I chose them because they had the most dark roasts to choose from. Also... one of their roasts is called Three-Peckered Billygoat. Couldn't pass that up 🤣

yes it's all about the beans!
i have this sweet machine that grinds just enough coffee for the double shot. maybe it's just me or because i'm using it for espresso, but i have found some beans that i don't like or just aren't strong enough for me. also, that some beans make a very different looking espresso shot, different levels and color of crema. i don't want to be boogie, but i fucking love the taste of my own latte with my homemade almond milk. i think i mentioned wife got the machine at work for $75 or something when it's like a 500-700 machine.
when i'm on the road, i love a mom and pop coffee shop especially with a cool name like "cool beans" or "giddy-up"(in horse country), real places i've been to lol. if the wife and i are traveling on a trip, i always make a point to find and go to a local coffee place. i'm a talker, so i like talking to the barrista about where we're from, ask them about the locale, yada yada

one thing i noticed is that the coffee i have now from colombia is a very small bean, almost half the size of the last bag i had that was kirkland supremo (their darkest).
it totally grinds differently too, seems to have much fluffier grounds and overfills the thing with the same amount of beans that it took to fill it up before.

i would love to get on a coffee club, that sounds awesome!

Yeah, AI is replacing a lot of IT jobs, for sure. but i got to shoot for the moon or kick myself for not trying. i'm the black sheep in the family, never really even thought i would get even a 4year degree let alone a masters. it will be a great accomplishment for sure, thank you for your love

so i work with data all day right now, and people, and the only time i use AI is for help articulating a company wide message based on the insight i have from the data. the hardest thing for me right now is learning how to navigate the fucking corporate office political gauntlet. it's a beast that still pisses me off as i'm learning i just have to accept it because that's the fucking way it is and i'm close to the bottom. breathe breathe...
i guess all i can say to that is, I'm sure one day ai will replace all of us, but today is not that day lol

let me make a fucking coffee and take another hit to start this day proper

Yeah I'm just using a Bunn auto-dripper but I need a bit more than a shot. I take a whole pot to work and sip on it for the first couple hours of the day. I do love a good latte, though, and that's what I order if I'm out and will only be having a cup.

Man not me.. I hate small talk. Well actually, I love it and hate it at the same time. I struggle internally, being internally socially awkward. However, with my time as an electrician, I've been forced into so many conversations with GCs and homeowners. I love meeting and learning about people, though. I'm pretty empathetic and I enjoy finding and making connections. The conversing with strangers is just so intimidating at first.

i would love to get on a coffee club, that sounds awesome!
There are so many to choose from. I really like the espresso blend from Raven's brew. It's called Ebony Pearls. I usually get two shipments of that one before switching it to something else.

Fuck yeah dude! If feels good breaking from the mold. I'm rootin' for ya man!

They're projecting robots even replacing manual labor by 2050. Hanging drywall and snaking your toilets. Wiring your house and and putting solar on the roof. Shit's wild to think about.

let me make a fucking coffee and take another hit to start this day proper
