Grump's Kitchen Sink Grow 🌱

Well if ya'll have followed along with my couple grows... you know by now that I'm impatient.

Got 3 rooted and 2 looking light like they'll have roots showing in the morning sooo... I threw 3 into the system.

So there are 3 Kitchen Sinks in the system. There's plenty of splash going on in the buckets to keep the hydroton moist, but I'm going to topdress with RapidStart once. I'll wait til I have a 4th in there, presumably tomorrow.

Nearly wrapping up this little project. I'll close it out when roots hit the water and start a "Grows Kitchen Sink 🌱 " thread.

This is such a cool hobby... I'm one step closer to keeping me some mothers and cloning my own stock. Badass.

C'mon #4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Got a 4th!!

Little root poking out of the bottom, which was weird to me. All the others shot out the side, midway up the plug (basically where that first node was stripped). This one is acting like it sent a taproot 🤣

I didn't get it transplanted, had to run the Danger Ranger into town for an oil change.

I'll get to it when I get home. Maybe there will be another with visible roots and I'll have to make a decision... OOOOOHHHH

it's cool to see the difference between the clones and seedlings. The taproot from the seeds is SOO much smaller than the roots leaving the plugs from the clones. Spindly little single root compared to the several fat honkers from the clones. Damn cool to see side by side.

I'm not the kind of guy that can keep more than one thread alive, so I just changed the title...

Here's where Grump's Kitchen Sink Grow 🌱 begins.

-------

Kitchen sink has been a favorite strains of mine since my first whiff. It hit some nostalgic notes and took me straight back to my mom's kitchen sink. Smelled of an old dirty dish towel; a musty mildewy sort of stank from too many loads of dishes on the same rag.

I hope to achieve that with this grow. A similar pheno would be glorious and may send me down the path of keeping mother plants...

Kitchen Sink is a Cannarado strain and this pack was pricey at $150. Thabks again to @GoodShit97 for tracking them down for me.

It all started with thus lonely little bean that was abused and cloned way early.

If you're interested in that seed to clones journey, start this thread from the beginning.

Here's where we're at right now. For spindly little clones that finally rooted. Now they're getting thrown into the ring. Shown below in order of root arrival...

I upped the ppfd a bit and evened it out with the ol' tried and true @Stoneyluv "game on" Spectrum. In my house, it equates to ~150ppfd with the CLW SolarSytem 1100 mounted 6 feet above the lids.

Nutes are Athena's Grow formula at about 25% of their recommended dosage.

Tent bounces a bit but here's where it's currently sitting. I dropped the rH to 65% after I was done in there. The leaf offset is at -3 degrees. My laserthermoblaster takes 9v batteries and i'm all out, so I can't be exact about it.

Glad to have you following along and, as always, feel free to throw some questions or advice my way.

Looking forward to this project dude!
Clones look really good and ready to go.
Few times I've grown Cannarado stuff has always been great. I have old seeds from them but not sure what they are anymore. Probably something purple and stinky 😋

How you like that pH probe part of your monitor there? Is it high maintenance and fragile? Blue Lab is top shelf so I expect not it's jsut that I got a continuous monitor and it's great and all but the probe needs cleaning about once a week and works best when water is still rather than flowing over and around it.

Glad you think they're looking good. I hope to see roots again in another couple days.

I lived out there for a bit so I've smoked a lot of their stuff. Most of the time it was pretty damn good. I'm excited to give them a whirl. Fingers crossed for a stinky pheno 🤞

It's been been fine. I don't have anything to compare it to is why I just say fine. From my inexperienced perspective, they been THE BEES FREAKIN KNEES. Easy to calibrate and easy enough to clean. I liked it enough that I bought another to monitor my top-off resevoir.

I'd say they're a little higher maintenance if you're a clean freak. They do seem to gunk up a but like some sort of growth, with or without microbes. Both probes do it and I only add Orca to the lower mix. It scrubs off easy enough with a toothbrush, though, and doesn’t read any different before and after.

I ordered an extra when I bought the second moniter because there is some weird black leakage or corrosion or growth or something weird that accumulates at the gasket. I don't think i'll buy another probe until they stop reading their calibration fluids accurately, though.

Here's the newest probe, probably 3 grows under it's belt. It's got the same black weirdness...

Tuned in for the show :). "Don't touch that dial. It's sticky. It's got jam... resin on it!"

What kind of system is that running they're recirculation wat?

Good Question. I've got a 50 gal Brute trash can for a top-off resevoir and 5 8-gallon UnderCurrent buckets. One is used as the control resevoir (shown below) and 4 in the tent.

A look inside the tent and the 4-site fallponic RDWC. That plant is the original Kitchen Sink from seed that we're working with today.

Oh really...nice, I'm shopping those as well. I've been looking at 1/4 for a 25 gal res, I'll do some more reading.
Glad to hear that works for 35, price tag might come down a little maybe
Yeah for sure. My buckets are on my basement floor so I'm sure that helps a tiny bit, but mine holds 70 degrees pretty easily.

Thanks Mr.Azz......

Saves a few $$ . Always good to ask, .... There's some sales going on a few of those..see which way I go, before I get one coming up here

Thanks bud

Always glad to help.

It will require it's own low-gpm pump. I forget the recommended gpms but it may state what's needed in the specs. I'll try to find when I added it to figure out which pump I used.

The only reason I considered bigger was the possibility of future expansion. I bought this one when I was doing a single site RDWC in a 20ish gallon tote. Much smaller volume than I run right now. I upgraded to the 4-site system and doubled my volume but she's still cooling just fine after a little more than 2 years. It would probably even work a little better without the chiller's pump being in my control res, but I'll just pull it out later if I ever have an issue.

When my tent is done being used as a drybox, I put the system back together and run bleach through it for a day or so, then water with a couple bottles of H202 for another day or so. I also run the chillers pump to clean up the coils internally as well. They can harbor some nasty gunk if you don't run the bleach through there also.

That's two plants with their downstairs showing and all the plants opening up another nude. NODE... I meant node. I don't sexualize my plants.

Another day of great growth below the lids.. still only 2 with visible roots, though. Everyone is showing good color and growth up top as well, so I'm assuming the others are still on their way.

This clone was the first to show roots and has been the most impressive so far. Pooped 4 more out of the pot yesterday and added 2-3" to the others. It's a glorious thing to behold.

I'm just gonna go ahead and say I'm in Veg now. I dropped the humidity to 60% and gave 'em a little more light while moving it to the Veg spectrum. Photone shows ~250ppfd or 15ish DLI.
20250825_065005.jpg
I'll give 'em a bit more in a few days when I'm sure this isn't too much. My chart tells me to give 'em 20 DLI in the first week of Veg. Neat, finally being able to check that. Using the right filter, photone supposedly tests within 5% of the more expensive meters.

I really should consider lowering the light and running it at a lower wattage but I'm lazy and can't really reach the ratchets... pushing buttons is way easier. I know a tear just rolled down Steamroller's cheek seeing the slacker in me but I also hear all the grandpas complaining about the electricity bill 🤣

80%?!?!!? damn!!!! hahaha ii'm just foolin.. how high are you... nevermind... how high is your light? haha

i'm at 50% right now and around 22-24" up.. i haven't measured it at all so i'm not sure.

Well I've been at work for 4 hours so it's safe to say I'm not all that high right now...

Light's mounted 6 feet above the plants. I'll lower it down if there's ever a need for more, but they'll get it themselves as they grow up.

I was pretty against the Photone app simply for the fact that you need some sort of light diffuser/filter for it. Looked it up and they sell one for 20 bucks. Dug a little deeper and read that they recommend 22lb paper. Found a whole stack for 7 bucks or so at Walmart. I only needed a little bit but my daughter loves to color on the extras. Worth it.

I know reading your plants is important, but I like the idea of knowing where I'm at with things. Reviews state that, with the proper diffuser/filter, it'll read within 5% of an Apogee meter. That's close enough for me to get a good starting point.

six feet wow... i don't even have six feet of clearance, Clarence! over over

yea for sure i use a meter to start out like you say just to get a good starting point. i could probably turn up all four of my lights right now, i have the soil at 80% i could take those up to 90 and bring the hydros up to 60.. in a couple days i will.

i got the elect bill today... i actually thought it was gonna be higher... i went online and paid it right away so i don't even need to think about it. i bought a chiller tonight too.. also renewed the tags for my nissan.. $100 the thieves!!! freakin commonwealth my ass!!! hahaha

Yeah I've got it tucked up in between the floor joists at the moment. Next grow I'm thinking about sticking my exhaust fan up in there too. Headroom for me, not the plants.
