I got a bunch of those pole mount fans for corners, but I also run a big 16 inch oscillating fan in my tents to help from getting stagnant spots. Anyway these things just don't last for shit, probably because I mount them upside down seems to put some strain on them and the oscillating feature quits working. Sometimes it's repairable, but it's a nightmare to fool with or even get to mid grow.

Do they make 16 inch oscillating fans that are higher end? Maybe something a grow facility would use? The ones I can recall seeing all looked bigger in pictures than what I need but it's hard to tell from a pic. Anyway I'm ready to spend some actual money on a good one so the buy once cry once method....

What's out there?

Air King is the brand to look for when it comes to a wall mount 16" IMO. Mine has been a workhorse. It's my second fan. The first one lasted 9 years.

The problem, even when older or a good brand, is the oscillating gear. Itā€™s usually made of a softer material now so it doesnā€™t break if it gets resistance. But in a tent this causes wear points that get stripped so oscillation is intermittent at best.

If itā€™s a stiffer gear it just breaks and you lose oscillation right away and/or wear and damage to whatever is touching it.

I was hoping a tower fan in the corner might be the answer but mine takes up a plants spot, in a 3x3. And itā€™s much harder to clean, would probably need to take it apart. I use a blower outside and a cloud of dust and dog hair come out at the end of the season. Regular cleaning just doesnā€™t cut it.

I had thought/hoped Vivosun or AC Infinity had finally dealt with the issue with the newest versions of oscillating clip fans but Iā€™ve heard they die eventually too.

Stationary clip fans, which is pretty much what mine are now, end up causing wind burn or donā€™t reach everywhere you need it.

I was hoping to get new ones for Black Friday but IDKā€¦whatā€™s worth it that lasts?

I was looking at these.
Air King 9012 Commercial Grade Oscillating Wall Mount Fan, 12-Inch , White https://a.co/d/3fQCIad

Think I'm gonna get 2.
Mount then to a 2x4 and hang the 2x4s by zip ties lol

I canā€™t use them but for those that can they do look good. I checked out the 16ā€ a while back to see if I could use it in the tent but found the $24 clip fans instead. They lasted a few years. But the oscillating gear wore out. If my son gets the printer I might be able to print a new one or just slip on gear teeth. šŸ¤”

Update I took a shot on a hurricane 16 inch oscillating as it had the same 3 year protection plan as the air king

Day 1 instant regret....fucker took 6 days to show up and it don't oscillate. Shoulda spent the money the first time ....buy once cry once right....this POS is going back šŸ˜ž. This is like my 3rd attempt at a hurricane brand fan, my little ones work fine....both times I've tried the bigger one they ended up like this, not working right out of the box...if it worked I'm sure it would be fine but I'ma fuck around reordering this garbage over and over and end up catching some rot or pm knowing my luck

I have a single floor stand unit in my room, it's a workhorse. The key is to buy an outdoor unit, but use it inside. You'll pay more, since it's ALL metal, not the plastic crap ones. But it will last with no maintenance. I can check tomorrow for the name. And the fact is, metal fans can move more air than the plastic ones.

P.S.- Just checked, it's made by "Maxx Air"..........probably bought on Amazon or Home Depot.

Not a huge deal it was my fault ordered something I already returned online, could have been different had I just bought one in person somewhere. Hard to find wall mount fans in most stores tho. Im sure it's just my luck but now I'm 2 cheaper fans in the hole as I ordered one like I just had in my tent and waiting to return the other eventually I'll get half of it back but until then I can't help but think i goofed ha

No matter which brand you buy, look for an outdoor one since it's waterproof, all metal, more solidly built, etc. This one is 22 inches across, and blows plenty of air for this 4 X12 room. I've had this one for 3 years now, never an oz of trouble. 3 speeds.image.jpg

Now I'm curious how durable the outdoor oscillating fans are, oscillating is a needed feature for my space, without that I get micro climates in some spaces where air just don't move too well. Wonder if the internals are metal on the outdoor oscillating fans so they hold up to the elements, you'd think they'd have to be.

I'm finding them in a quick search anywhere from $110-350....better think long and hard about this one

Life span on the plastic Hurricane can be all over the place. Like they're either a 1 star or 5 star fan and you either hate it or love it.
The thing about it is that it's hobby grade which is usually the lowest quality but also least expensive.
Hurricane does have commercial grade though. They're all metal and built to last but also cost 3-4 times more than the hobby grade fans.

^thats the hurricane I have in the tent, and it has held up for 3 years, and the one before it broke, and they sent a free replacement. Just like every brand, they have cheaper entry models, and the higher grade more expensive ones.
