What’s up guys and gals! Merry Christmas! Been a while since I posted or even commented but haven’t forgot about you all. Hunting season is almost done so had a buddy talk me into getting some clones going. As most of you know I grow using a PA Hydro Fallponics 8 gallon RDWC system in a 4x4 gorilla grow tent. For lighting I use a Kind X750 and adjust spectrum and intensity based on grow phase.

I have city water add a little ascorbic acid then nutes and ph down after all that. Using General Hydroponics 3 part Flora series nutes and follow the light feed schedule. Currently at 450ppm on the 500 scale. Also add CalMag as I’ve had deficiency issues in the past and already noticed some browning spots on leaves and tips. Have about 25 gallons in the system and added 60ml on the last water change. Running a live system and add 1ml Orca per gallon of water.

Keep PH between 5.6-6.1 usually hovering around 5.8. Tent temps are 75-80F max and RH is currently 65% water temp 71F.

This grow we have Captain Redbeard Caramel Apple Fritterz on the left side of the tent and Ethos Fanta Sea Rbx on the right. The Caramel
Apple was put into the tent 2 weeks ago and the Fanta Sea a little over week now. Both had some signs of stress due to being in clone a bit too long in my opinion so hoping the Fanta Sea catches up and takes off soon.

Thanks for reading will try to keep you all posted as things progress. 🍻

Hey BK, good to see you bro!

In for this grow 🍿 You are a brave soul running two different strains in the same system! I want to do that but have not ventured there yet.

Just curious, have you ran two different strains in the same system before? What went into your strain selection process?

Hey SLG! Long time, hope you’re doing well bro!

I’ve ran multiple strains since my first grow. Like to have a little variety when smoking so try to run 2 strains at a time. It’s been a challenge though with different heights due to strain and even pheno differences within the same strain. Ive typically tried super cropping them or knuckling of the stretchier buds on taller plants. Not ideal but they seemed to have tolerated it for the most part.

For this grow I asked the dealer to provide a couple small bushier strains ideal for a tent so time will tell.

Curious what size and brand of chiller you use? Everything I've found so far is fairly expensive. My water temps are getting as high as 76F at the end of the day. Don’t tell my wife but think it might be time to accessorize 🤷

Yea, the chillers are not cheap but if your temps are getting that high, there might be something to be concerned about. I ran that Panama in a system with no chiller, I did notice temps climbing during the day for sure, don't remember if they were that high, but I was concerned. In the end, I was able to complete the grow and this was a summer/fall grow so take that for what it's worth. I still have not accessorized that system

Here is the chiller I got.

I'd have to look but I think I have the 1/4 HP, found mine used on ebay for in that 300 dollar range which included shipping, which I imagine was not cheap. They are a heavy unit.

Hey buzz I have a 1/4 I’m not using. If you want to try it for a run you can.

I’ve been letting temps come up a bit higher recently. 72-74 with good air is fine. You getting higher than that?

70-76f roots shouldn't be a problem, Atleast with beneficial bacteria/fungi or 34% h2o2

Or so I would think.

Hey Moe! Thanks for the offer. I’m maxing out at 76F by the end of the day. Based on what you and Observer have said I guess I’ll let it ride for now and see how things grow.

The guys here got me turned onto Active Aqua. They're a little pricey but mine has performed wonderfully. I only chill around 15-18 gallons so the 1/10 works great for me.

There aren't a lot of options out there. AA is one I have used since 2017 and I dunno 50 grows later still works fine. I have 2 that have been used on many different configurations.

They do raise the temp in the lung room, so depending on your setup you may find them to be overall detrimental in the summer. Add heat here to remove it there to deal with it someplace else kinda thing. If you end up with temp probs and cannot keep the lung room in check I would always default to a dehuey rather than a chiller if you have to pick one.

There are 2 potential issues with higher water temp

Lower DO
Faster growth of both good and bad micros.

You have good aeration, not worried about DO for you.
If you have trouble with micros, just have some H2O2 on the shelf ready to treat.

Been a little while and haven’t provided an update. Hunting season officially over so nothing to do but grow and wait for spring 😁

Water temp have mellowed out now that I have enough foliage to keep light off the totes, holding steady around 68F. Thanks again for the offer to borrow that chiller Moe but think I’ll be fine for now.

Did a major defoliation and flipped to 12/12 a week ago and they have recovered well. My buddy that cloned the strains said the Fanta Sea on the right in photo was going to be more upright and stretchy compared to the Carmel Apple Fritter on the left. Started the CAF a week earlier for that reason but doesn’t look like it made a difference. The Fanta Sea is about 4 inches taller already, so much for that plan. Always a challenge growing 2 different strains in a small space.

Thanks for reading!

With the temps we are getting now I need a heater not a chiller.

Nice roots. Plenty of o2 there

Good thing you flipped them those will be some big plants. You nailed it this time.

Thanks Mo coming from you that means a lot! Still a long way to go as you know so not counting those chickens yet 😝

Yeah it’s in my basement but heated so air temp around 68F back there. Morning temps of the water get down to 65F around 68F by time the lights go out so think I’m in the goldy locks zone there but don’t want to go any lower.

Definitely have the water height issue worked out on this one with the PA Hydro Fallponics system and the added reservoir top off and air purge on the hump. Able to keep water a good inch below those 8” net pots so think that’s helping with the roots.

Don’t tell the wife but have used our Anova Sous Vide device in the past to get water up to temperature. Thing works great even has an app to monitor temp and adjust from phone 😂
I drop in an aquarium heater if needed. Using one now because my basement is friggin cold. These seedlings are growing at crawl speed at these temps. Like your solution tho too.

Looking for opinions on what might be causing the browning on theses leaves
IMG_3466.jpegIMG_3465.jpegIMG_3467.jpeg
This is one of the Fanta Sea cuttings and can from the same plant as the other on the front right hand side of the tent. That plant doesn’t show any signs of it.
IMG_3460.jpeg
Here’s what I’m feeding them. Start with city water then added to 34 gallons of water…
72 ml Flora Micro
62 ml Flora Grow
79 ml Flora Bloom
30 ml Cal mag
All nutes are added to the water one at a time or individually. When completed with above ratios tested at 1.0 EC or 500tds on the 500ppm scale.

After nutes ph down to 5.8 then used as water during weekly water changes and top offs. System holds approximately 25-26 gallons when running.

Not extremely worried at this point as no other plants so signs of distress in fact they look great in my opinion. Including the other Fanta Sea front right. 🤷

What you have there is classic calcium deficiency after the flip. It shows up worse in RDWC than soil.

At this stage you need to be more like 1:1 with cal mag and the others.

Get it caught up and you will be fine.

Lemme grab you a chart to explain, brb

Edit - look at this

1705535241001.png

You have a spike in Cal requirements when you flip. I like to up the cal mag a couple weeks before the flip.

Totally recoverable, don't sweat it.

Imo that chart that @Moe.Red posted is too late with the calcium. A member here said that chart was provided by @Aqua Man and said that chart is for a different plant.

I personally use these as a reference

Here is where I dug into that chart

And here was the final conclusion

You can't really look at this chart as "time to add this" tho. For example, you gotta push calmag way eariler starting in veg IMO. It needs to be abundant in the tissues before flipping to flower in a RDWC setup, once you have a deficiency its sometimes hard to catch up on big fast plants.
