Newb here, would this be possible/super inconvenient?

i came across a pic of ya undercover over at other place holding up a little fish šŸ˜€

Yes, SLG pretty much duplicated what I had at the time. I did a 4, 6 and 8 site DIY fallponics based on Gary at PA hydro's designs.

@Observer the fallponics is a version of RDWC where the supply is higher than the water level creating a waterfall / splashing for more O2. It does not remove the need for bubbling tho.

OK SkinnyP, if this were me I would want to make this a quiet as possible since it is in your bedroom. Being in an apartment, I think you said 2nd floor, another major concern is leaking. Make sure your air pump is higher than any water in the system to prevent siphoning. The PA system uses quality bulkheads and square plant sites, so overall that will not be a big factor in leaks. 9 times out of 10, it is a mistake by the grower that causes flooding.

If the splashing is too loud, you can put a 90 inside the plant sites to get the supply under the water line. In my testing with DO meter, the fall in the fallponics does not really do much to overall O2 levels by itself. If you have proper bubbling, that is what you really need.

In terms of environment, what you are looking for is a proper VPD for the stage of the plant. VPD is nothing more than a way to design for the proper flow of water and nutes from the roots to the atmosphere via leaves. It takes RH and Temp and makes sure the ratio is right.

View attachment 76330

Given your situation, you will pretty much be controlling both RH and Temp via the exhaust blower. This will be a compromise you will have to work with the lung room (your bedroom) temp and RH mixing with the growspace and adjust things for the best you can do. You probably will not need any heat because the lights supply that, but RH can be a real issue. Especially on fast growing plants in hydro. Chances are when the plants get bigger, like towards the end of veg your RH will be your limiting factor, and your blower will be working to get rid of water in the air more than adjusting temp.

That calculator will help you to see what needs to be happening for best results.

RH will often peak once lights go out. Temps drop, making RH surge. This, if not handled properly, can cause mold. Especially in flower.

Because you are in a northern cold/dry climate, as you push the warm moist air out of the tent and out of your apartment, new air from outside will find it's way into your house via every crack in doors, windows, etc. If it is cold out, this means your furnace will kick on, making your apartment air even more dry. This can be a big help in controlling RH in the tent.

My biggest suggestion for you would be to put up the tent, and start 1 plant in soil or coco just to get an idea of how everything works and measures out in your environment. Once we have some real world measurements we can tune the setup to be able to properly handle the loads from a fast growing RDWC system. The plants will grow faster / bigger in RDWC, but that comes at the cost of need for additional environmental controls. For example, before I added a chiller, I would spend that money on a dehumidifier most likely.
Damn, you are a wealth of knowledge!! Gave me a bit to think about over the last few days! That being said, I am gonna try :) If the setup fails, I'll just store the follponics for when I get more room and just go coco. I checked out my breaker and each(2) outlet has its own breaker, so I should be good on that. I also found a floor to ceiling, light blocking curtain to "partition" the room. I am gonna post what's in my carts - the follponics, I'd appreciate any opinions on what's in them! What i may or may not have...

Also, is a RO supply necessary? I've heard some ppl get by w tap depending on the local water quality. Thank you again for your time and knowledge, it's been extremely helpful!

So here's what's in my carts(- fallponics 4 13 gal sites,) any and all suggestions on what's there or not there would greatly be appreciated! In the amazon cart pics r 2 different meter kits, suggestions on which one would be cool šŸ˜Ž 1000001661.jpg1000001661.jpg1000001662.jpg1000001662.jpg1000001664.jpg1000001661.jpg1000001662.jpgScreenshot_20241019_090037_Chrome.jpg1000001664.jpgScreenshot_20241019_090126_Amazon Shopping.jpgScreenshot_20241019_090141_Amazon Shopping.jpgScreenshot_20241019_090150_Amazon Shopping.jpgScreenshot_20241019_090202_Amazon Shopping.jpgScreenshot_20241019_090214_Amazon Shopping.jpgScreenshot_20241019_090225_Amazon Shopping.jpg

Well, that was a mess, duplicate pics, my bad

If it were me, I would replace the "Gorilla Tent" with the same size footprint by AC Infinity. For most people indoors, an 80" vertical space is more than sufficient and the savings would be significant. AC Infinity tents are among the best out there. They do cost more than your bargain budget tents but less than "Gorilla."

Just my two cents on your shopping list.

I was gonna do ACI till I found a code, the gorilla ended up being $50 cheaper

If you can link your local water report i can tell you if there are any concerns. Or screen shot it and black out the location for anonymity

Fair enough, Gorilla is an excellent tent.
Well, the %50 code must have expired(was waiting to checkout till I was pretty sure my shopping list was complete) so I ended up getting the ACI. I had previously wanted to go ACI as most of my equipment would be from them, but found that code and the follponics was built for the gorilla(don't think there will b much, if any difference in that aspect though.)

Noooo, you wont regret, just get a hydro- DWC system working

Lol
I'm hoping I won't regret it lol! I do have some restraints where ultimately, the rdwc may prove to be unrealistic/problematic. First, I'm a newb šŸ˜€ Second, I'm trying to do this in a 2nd floor duplex bedroom(gonna "partition" with floor to ceiling dark curtain) that I sleep in :) Not really ideal lol I may fail spectacularly and have to dial it back a bit, but can't help not giving it a shot. Thanks to this community, I may b able to pull it off, time will tell.
I appreciate the encouraging words though, thank you :)

I have an ACI 5 x 5 tent. What feature are you looking for to make it work with the fallponic rdwc? I can check mine out and pass on the information. I have plants in it at the moment so any pictures would include them as well.

Thats all fine but there is another one. You probably need to get last years. It will show water hardness, sodium, zink, sulphur, phosphate etc.
Thank you for ur response. I spent hrs trying to find what you were talking about to no avail.. Instead of waiting till Monday to get the report from the local source, I decided to just get the ispring ro.

Again, I'm a newb w 0 grows. I have nothing set up atm, everything is on it's way. Any and all info would be awesome! I'm thinking about getting the DIY 4 13gl site to save some money. Did u get that or the assemble only one? Do u have a intake(from lung?) I appreciate any info u may have...

I'm in Autopots with a res that sits outside of my tent I do a have a chiller but its set at 69f, as long as you don't get into the mid to high 70's you should be good, You'll want to agitate your res once an hour for 5 min, small pump or wave maker and no airstone in the res. as long as you vent your heat and keep your room 70f ish you're good
Agitation not required for res if it's a rdwc right?

My tents are in my basement. I have 5 set up for use but currently I am only using 3 areas. I use the room my tents are in as my lung room. I have a dehumidifier I can use to remove humidity from the air. I also have a couple of humidifiers but those seldom get used. I exhaust into the same room I am using as my lung room. I have zero issue maintaining temps and environmental parameters with my setup ... but mine has been tweaked a bit over the years.

I'll hand off to the hydro guys for your hydro specific questions...

So all that is left for me to buy r the little beans that grow to b stalks jack would be jealous of. Indica dom w high yield and resiliency to newb growers?
