Ha anybody here grown Zamal? Just an old plant that caught my attention when I was watching some random videos. It's something I haven't been around, but it sounds interesting and it looks interesting, too. This video should take you to the short segment with this plant, if you want to check it out.

I have 4 Zamal Dreams from Dragon Flames Genetics going now. I'm just 2-3 weeks into flower. So far so good. A fkup had them flipped them at 2 weeks old but other than small they seem fineSept 9 Zamal Dreams.JPG

You know, I didn't put two-and-two together. I've seen where you, @GrumpAzz and others have grown Zamal Dreams, but my brain didn't pick up on "Zamal" being part of the name. I just had "rubbery landrace sativa" in my head, lol.

Until today i thought it was an indica leaning plant, After that video and a bit of googling I'm like wtf I thought I did some research before I germinated them. I tend to go with Indica's because sativa's have grown too tall and take too long for a short tent, well I won't have to worry about height on this run..lol.....I'm going to turn on my far reds after they've stretched out. Just 15 min at lights out and increase my hrs on to run lights on 12.5/11.5 then 13/11 and 14/10 at the end as I dim my lights accordingly.

Flip early and feed them til they look done is all i can say lol
Ive got a sativa thats above my light and has been in flower 12 weeks now, and still no end in sight. Thinking she'll need 16 weeks...

i say you’ll b in for a wild ride growing Zamal .will most likely grow tall leggy with daddy log legs branching 😂 same with zamadelica . Zamal x golden tiger….I’ve grown zamadelica x orange dreams from DFG with mixed results with short and tall pheno’s.some really fucking leafy that you’ll b defoliating heavily just to get the light in.and if your lucky might get the tall but very open structured and clean pheno thats a keeper..check out these pics starting from post 1,128. If you just grow Zamal they will b nothing like this. https://budbuilders.org/threads/madmax-growing-with-dragons-flame-genetics.167/page-38

I'm jealous of your options to manipulate spectrums, lol. My gut says I need some straight forward grows under my belt before starting to tweak, but you're making it hard. The interesting part is it all makes sense to me. I may learn that I have it all wrong in my head. 'Til then, using blues to control stretch while keeping things healthy is desirable and makes sense. using reds to grow bigger and denser buds is desirable, and using UV to harm the plants and trigger increased trichome production is desirable. If done correctly, of course. So, I guess it's natural to want to get in on that part of the game.

That's the kind of grow that really interests me. I'm curious about the payoff, if any, for someone who has patience and space for a longer flowering plant. What do you know about this sativa that you currently have growing?

Its a Mango Thai cross, has a mango candy skunk profile going on, i have a male about to dump a shit load of pollen and ill be taking this to f2.
The male is a funky skunky mango rubber profile.
This run shes doing OK, next will be better now that I know what to expect from her.

You're starting to sour me on Zamal, lol. I particularly liked what the guy in the video said about the leaves pretty much all falling off before you harvest. Really, I just thought the plant looked neat and I liked his description of the effects. Sounded interesting to me. I also liked how bendy the branches were. I'm too clumsy and do too much unintended damage training and defoliating. The example in the video seemed to be pretty forgiving.

To be fair, I could use seeds from the exact same batch as you and mine wouldn't come out looking anywhere near as nice as yours did. Wow! Those buds looked awful heavy. Beautiful!

SweetI I didn't realize you were breeding. I hope it goes great and you are able to keep us posted. This sounds awfully damned cool 👊 .

I'm just playing with them I have no idea what I'll get as a result. I have the lights so I might as well play with them. I ran far reds like that before and all turned out great. I now have 5 far reds 750nm, 2-blue 450nm booster bars, 1- Green 550nm strip light and I just bought 2 black light strips I think are 400nm. I'll need 10 years with each to figure out how best to use them all....I'll keep posting as long as I can...lol
I bought the black lights for photos, this is an early bud pic I just took with them onSept 8 black light smbud.JPG

I like the way using the black light leaves a black background. Puts all the focus on the plant. I'm guessing things will look a lot less natural and start getting funky when she frosts up.

sorry if i deterred you abit from growing her bro..it wasn’t my intention.was just a heads up that if your growing it inside it can b abit of a handful.have a go and take it as a challenge.we don’t learn if everything is easy 🙂.it’s just the maintenance side.growing Zamal dreams is a breeze so I’d expect a lot of similarities between them.

Hey Max. You didn't deter me. Not at all. That was a poor attempt at humor on my part. The guy in the video mentioned that the plants he had growing drop almost all of their leaves before harvest. I took that as making trimming easier. You mentioned some Zamadelica x Orange Dreams had phenos exhibit as heavy foliation that requires a lot of thinning. I was trying to joke about being drawn to the plant in the video because I'm lazy about trimming, but some of the Zamadelica x Orange Dreams could require more work and that didn't appeal to me. It didn't make sense, because these are two completely different plants. So, that was all on me.

Plus, it may be next to impossible for me to get my hands on seeds for something similar to the Zamal in the video. I saw in another of his videos that regulations make selling or swpping seeds too hard to share to the public and he only does some some seed trading locally. Even if I did some elsewhere, it's likely a plant I don't have the right climate or long enough season to grow outdoors and i don't have a greenhouse. I haven't researched this plant. It just caught my attention as interesting when I came across the video and I was curious if anyone on the forum had any experience with it.

It's turned out to be a worthwhile post just to see the crosses that you and others have grown. I was aware of Zamal Dreams, but didn't connect it with the Zamal in the video until you guys put it in front of me.

I really enjoy reviewing and following your grows. Thanks for sharing everything. Gives me something to learn from and aspire to.

True this man. I can use the same equipment and same plants that will do well in one room then move it all to another room and they hate life and die.
I learn the most from the temperamental bitchy strains than I do the ez stuff. I like to mix them up so that way when and if the hard stuff fails there's something else to keep the project going.

This sounds a ton like these Vietnamese sativas I'm trying to work with. There's even a "weeping willow" pheno.
She pretty much hates me but shows me things that make her happy so I keep taking on the challenge. Every now and then she gives me an aroma that keeps me going. She's a harsh mistress but for some reason I really wouldn't want it any other way. Maybe the really good stuff isn't ever supposed to be ez.

What keeps me going is the yield and ya the mango terps are soo nice I gotta keep sniffing her 😂.what gets me is the stretch on some and then all the leaves in close proximately..they are like a mixed bag of lollies.ya just don’t know what your going to get.the tall vigourous ones drink like alcoholics.lol.they can get to 10’ of the light and it doesn’t faze them.keeping those big buds upright is a pain in the ass.🤣
