Grump's Kitchen Sink Grow 🌱

1 EC is 500 TDS (total dissolved solids) or 700 ppm. The 700 scale is a little more precise than the 500 and both are more precise EC. 1.1 EC would be 550TDS or 770ppm. So one tenth of a bump in EC skips right over everything in between. Most people use TDS but we say PPM for some reason... @smoke runs the 700 scale.

@moe.red, correct me if I'm wrong.

Now here's a funky one.. we measure EC at work in ųMoh... micro whatnow??
So EC with 2 digits covers everything right? That's what i use for my grow data logging

I'd say so, if you're reading into the hundredths. Like 1.01 EC on the 500 scale would equate to 505 and my bluelab reads every 10, so that's more accurate than I can even read. I don't think my bluelab will read hundredths on EC, just tenths.

I knew i was an oddball but my equipment too? Lol i think they wired the output backwards, more precision in EC than PPM/TDS

Mine gives down to the thousandth for EC
0.962
PXL_20250909_232730043.jpg

Or 470 ppm (47?) likely 479 given above reading

weird right??

I calibrate this every grow too with two different known solutions.

i'm so glad we're unpacking this next!!!! an EC monitor is next on my list!!!!!! i'm looking for cheap and accurate, or at least cheap and consistent..

Damn and that thing doses too? Fancy.

Man... at least once per grow, the ACI plug controller I use for my heater will fail.

At lights out, the plug contacts stuck and the heater stayed on all night, despite the controller telling it to shut off. Exhaust battled it and kept the temp at 83 until the lights kicked on and then it shot up to 89.

The last 2 times this has happened, letting it cool off has fixed the issue. I have 2 plugs now that I just swap when this happens. Letting them cool seems to reset them and allow them to function correctly again. It's just such an annoyance.

I absolutely love AC Infinity's stuff, but the UIS plugs can be downright aggravating. Not to mention potentially hazardous. Unattended space heaters cause a lot of fires and, were this to happen while I'm out of town for an extended period of time, could be a bad deal... Can't shut it off from the app. The controller already told it to shut off. The plugs just don't always listen.

AC Infinty has replaced plugs 3 different times now and even said they've made some engineering changes. I don't know that I believe them though. These things should NOT fail closed. If they fail, they should cut the power, not continuously run. Major design flaw. They need to include a set of overloads or something. Shit's not safe.

-------

Aside from that, plants are doing great. Bushy fuckers in the back for sure. I've meant to top 2 nights in a row now, but I keep falling asleep with the kiddo. Maybe tonight.

i have the same thing with mine.. it's like that plug loses connection and defaults to power on.. i always have to unplug and reset it when i see the flashing lights. i stopped using it and will only use it on something not critical in the future.

the small ACI controller i have with the two outlets built in has never failed or hinked up one single time. the pro69 has required four reboots now and the power plug countless times like you experience. it's a pita to reboot too.. ya gotta unplug every single usb cable and then plug them back in the same order. i stopped organizing the wires because i had to get in there a few times!

i wish we could get a firmware update with a fix on them!!

@ninjadip @SweetLeafGrow @moe.red
I know @smoke has bluelabs. I'm sure there's some people I'm missing but these are the guys I can think of off the top of my head. @Stoneyluv just ordered a bluelab. @Buzzking, you're doing rdwc right?
There's not much on the market that I know of that seem to be as reliable, without dropping thousands on lab-grade equipment or making your own

I'd like to have live monitoring 24/7 too next time I do dwc

I just have the pH and E.C pens for now

Moe had all that atlas equipment that he bought new and after a grow or two he already started having issues.. i bought that dfrobot ph sensor, the best one they offered, less than a year later and now it won't calibrate anymore and i've tried factory resets and all kinds of tries.. nothing works, it's useless to me right now. it's why i went ebay hunting for the bluelabs in the first place!

I leave mine in 24/7 and only need to recal once every 3 months for new grow. I compare against ph stick pen to make sure every 2 weeks, but it's always right on.

From the little i know, if you want to leave in solution 24/7 you absolutely have to have a double junction probe, which means the inside is contained in it's own solution, not directly in the testing environment. This means the reading is a little slower on a fast change reading but much more reliable.

A year is usually all a mfg will say they last if suspended 24/7 in solution. I get 2 years from the apera double junction, and for $40 i think it's a bargain

I’ve got one that separates using a bnc connection. I use it to check the other cheap ones I have.

They've bounced back just fine.20250914_113409.jpg

Here they were on Aug 5th, the mor ing after nipping them...
20250805_113315.jpg
And this is today.
20250914_113352.jpg

I've got a little cupping going on. I initially turned the light to 75% intensity after I stripped them. They only got that for a day because they looked like they were asking for more yesterday, so I cranked it back up.

I thermoed the leaves and they're 69-71 degrees so my VPD is actually a lot lower than I thought. Makes sense with the cupping now, too low of VPD for that intense of light... so I bumped the tent up a couple more degrees.

Pretty crazy to go from snip to dinner plates in just over a month though... clone growth is dope and I already can't wait for the next round.

You're really rocking it out, having fun, and it shows big time man!
Love the the health and palm tree look of your plants.
I'm having fun watching you have fun with this ;blks

I knew you’d have no big issues. I love how easy clones are compared to starting seeds. You’re all set to go perpetually now if you want. Or keep cloning a nice strain while you pop seeds and experiment.

Man.. I wish. I need another space and hydro setup for all that. Basically gonna have to double what I've got now.

It's coming though.. Mark my words.
I bought a second set of equipment as a backup when I found the items on sale. Wasn’t long before I set it up and started use it too. Lol

Hard part was stopping. I had more weed than we could use or give away fast enough in only two years. I just gave away three ounces to my buddy. Two are the good stuff from winter 2023, one was from the last harvest. I keep a hygrometer and Boveda pack in each Mason jar.

So now I take the summer off and let my son have a go if he wants. I’ll still do the winter runs.

I am not sure why I grow more than I need?
Even without going perpetual.
Kind of feel bad but also need a hobby.
Doesn't take long to get ahead though.
I am bad with numbers ~!;gr

When I started growing I didn’t know there were limits. I had seedlings all over the yard in water bottle pots. Doing tests and experimenting with different ideas and goals. Since then I toe the line. The closest I come now is starting clones before harvest. If I have more clones than i need I’ll give them away, I hate tossing good clones but that’s the last resort.

Well everybody looked fine and bushy today. As I was inspecting the their bushes, I noticed dew buildup so I stripped 'em down as far as I could on each of the 4 colas. I left the oldest fan on each and snipped as far up as I could. Soon enough, each cola will get tied down to an eyelet.

They also got a new batch of nutes to celebrate a big day... Flip Day! Yep you heard me right! Flippin' Flip Day.

I hit 'em pretty hard with their first taste of bloom nutes. Once through stretch they'll also start getting a PK supplement. From experience, I expect to see the pH settle a little bit higher than that but I'll keep an eye on it.
20250916_135335.jpg

Since I decided to flip today...
yeah...
Flip Day baby...
... I flopped the reds and blues right away. After stretch they'll get even less blues. Right now this spectrum shows 500-530 ppfd according to the photone. It's says that equates to 21-23 DLI which will slowly be bumped up each week. I assume the plants will do it themselves as they take off.
20250916_135306.jpg

This is right about where the tent stays, give or take a degree or percentage point here and there. I've been running it hot because I've got quite the leaf temp offset and I'd like to keep 'er around 1kPa for now. Humidity will get dropped after stretch as well. Bout time to break out the other dehuey.
20250916_135254.jpg

Big update today so I'm glad you didn't miss it.
FUGGIN' FLIP DAY
Thanks for keeping up with this clone to dome adventure of mine. So far it's been a blast and I can't freakin' wait to start seeing that first fuzz.
Rock on and as always..

Bandit flips hella early... like maybe immediately.

All these girls have alternating nodes so I'm figure they're ready to go. If it were a single plant scrog I'd probably go for a 2 month veg.

Commercials flip clones day 5-15

I like to balance the plant size with my space available, then any time schedules or constraints.

A perfect/consistent environment greatly dictates growth rate, which not every homegrower can/does achieve.

Got enough growth out of the smallest to train it down and out, so they all got tied down.

Good news. After manhandling these stems, I got a good nose from them... Dirty dish towel. SCORE.

Gonna need to start a seed soon so I can take healthier clones next time. Wife went through all my seeds (50+ packs) and landed on these...

Stinky Pink it is. I'll be popping a seed in a week or two.
