Here we go again folks.
Same Grump, New Digs..

We're doing a couple things differently this round.
New (to me) tent and lights.
  • 4x8 Gorilla Grow tent
  • 2 Scynce Raging Kush II lights
New layout for the 4 plant system.
20260701_195802.jpg

I took these clones from their mama on June 12th and they rooted on June 19th. Into the system they went on June 25th with the lights set at 50%.

Water content is Athena's Grow mix. Currently sitting at 1.55 EC with a 6.1 pH. Need to bring that pH down a tad but it's been sitting solid.

They're looking good today so I bumped that light up to 75%. That's around 350 ppfd.

Roots are looking good for only 12 days of growth...

...so they all got a trim

The reservoir was initially dosed with H2O2, but I'm assuming that's all done run out. I've got to decide whether or not I want to stick to what I know and add some Orca or go a new route by running Hygrozyme instead. I need to do the paper test to see if the Zyme is still good because it's a 5 year old bottle. Unopened, but you know...

After a little downtime, it's good to have plants going again. It's time to kick it in gear my dudes.

✌️ & 💚

hells yeah!!!!

that tent looks awesome man, lots of room for the plants now!!
Thanks homie!
any training planned or just big n bad?
I'm gonna try to limit them all to their own little 2x4 zone.

I'll give them a few days to recover before upping the lights to 100%, then we're going straight into 12/12.

good luck with that... i have two in a 4x4 and they're all up in each others business!! the zone is "shared" haha

just jokin though, yours won't be shaped like mine..

.

did you eliminate the air stones? i don't see any...

Haha yeah. There's gonna be some mingling, I'm sure.

One already positive from these lights... the even coverage. My CLW had a hotspot in the center as the ppfd tapered out. These lights give me nearly an identical reading anywhere I check. Maybe that'll keep them from sprawling out as much as I've seen in the past.

In any case, it's gonna be interesting trying to train them into a rectangular space. You can't put the round peg in a square hole.

I did not. You can see the tubing going into the furthest bucket in the picture. I figured it couldn't hurt. I'm bubbling the top-off regardless.

A new tradition I'm gonna try and uphold.

thats cool man... for weeks now i've been tossing around getting sun and peach stickers!!! haha

so uh.. which theme did you used to use? .. i took a chance last night and turned them off hoping everyone had migrated over by now. i didn't delete em yet..

Heck yeah man. Do it.
I kept them out of the tent because they didn't seem like they'd handle the light for long.

Man.. couldn't tell ya. But I can show ya.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I'm sure the new one is just gonna take some getting used to.

yeah i pulled a yolo and ordered em.. only a few bucks..

how many watts are the new lights?

.

man i think you used illuminate before.. try switching to the new illuminate 2 and see if ya like that one. you might have to choose a background or color but the layout should be very close. i've personally grown to like the carbon 2..

Girls are doing great so I bumped up the lights to 100%. Roughly 375 ppfd across the board.

Little bit of tip burn but I ain't skeert.
Hammer down.

Roots recovered nicely and quickly branched out as expected.

Shoutout to @Observer.. I never would've considered trimming roots but here we are.

Everything is super stable and hands off. I'll give them another couple days like this before they get a good trim job and maybe a topping. Let them rest another couple days and we'll be going into flower.

These things rooted 16 days ago...

Very nice Grump and cool to see you experiencing root pruning.
I was very much into it with soils and using airpots doing the same thing. Once had fish nibble roots up to the water line and that was weird.
I always thought it helped reduce stretch and shortened up distance between internodes as well but that's something hard to prove or demo and you just see it in the plants you grow with some root pruned vs no root prune.
Cannabis can also take a hard cut back on roots. Say if you leave plants in a cloner too long and the root ball gets too big to pull up thru the hole in the cloner, I've cut that entire birds nest off and plants acted like it was nothing after a couple hours shock. It pretty much redirects traffic and takes a few hours to figure out the new pattern.

Thanks buddy. This is the second time I've trimmed plants that I'm running. Been trimming mother plants out of necessity, but that's a bit different.

Heck yeah, man. Getting fish involved would be super cool. Bucket list sorta deal for me.

Should be an easy little experiment running 4 clones. Trim 2 and leave 2 alone.

I'll be testing this out soon. I can't say for certain, but I think the vines in my motherdro have negatively impacted my cloning success. If some of these newest cuts don't root, I'll be taking a big chunk off the moms. At minimum, I may have to reconsider their spot in line.

just curious and making convo with this but, are you gonna leave your stem that deep in the cup like that? is that how you had them last time?

i'm so new to this commando style and i have so many "what if's" ya know? ... i get worried about the neoprene a little, i might pop off one of my collars just to check things out for a peace of mind kind of thing. with the roots established i can't really move them in the cups at all. and now with my screen in place they are not moving again.. prolly don't even need collars now, just to keep light out and keep any nasty dead debris from falling in there. i've often thought about inoculating my enzymes right down over the stem into the netcup and flow into the water that way... but i'm a little nervous because there is a maximum they say not to exceed and i was afraid the concentration would sit in pockets and cause problems. one day i'll have the nuts to try!! haha

but i am very curious as to how much pressure my collars are putting on my trunks.. i put extra long slits in mine to try and duplicate the look of yours. but i'm sure not all collars are identical in density.

Yeah it's in there now.. no turning back.
I started with a bit smaller rootballs this time, but I stuck the last ones in there is low as they'd go. These ones I just wanted them all as short as possible above the lid.

Haha yeah.. Your plants ain't goin' nowhere.
You'd be surprised what they'll actually hold up. Check the motherdro thread for an example.

I used to top-feed my orca in the seedling stage when I was using hydroton.

I'm pretty sure they won't choke your plants, regardless. Mine just seem to buckle like memory foam under the persistent pressure. I wish I would've snagged a picture.

Gonna give this 5 year old bottle of Hygrozyme the paper test.

I also started "inoculating" some filter media with Orca. If my Zymes is bunk, I'll throw those bricks into my resevoirs when I clean it out for a flower mix. I added a dab of Athena's stack to the Orca beaker as a potential food source to facilitate the growth and colonization of my bricks.

I've only been adding Athena's Cleanse, so far, which is just hypochlorous acid. I have gunk buildup at the fallponic jets. Never had that before running Orca. I added a manly dose of Cleanse when I first noticed the gunk. We'll see if that helps for now.
