CannaGranny’s Corner a Thread For General BS and Good Will On BudBuilders

My buddy Nutch spent 9 months in ICU with a breathing tube stuck down his throat. RIP Nutch. He was a snowboard instructor.

Had 3 relatives die from Covid. All refused the vaccine. One of my cousins still can't smell or taste anything. A few of my friends got it and can't return to work because of various issues like brain fog, etc.

Another friend caught it but it was super mild for him. He went to a family gathering. Killed 4 of his relatives including his niece. He committed suicide.

The vaccine for Covid 19 has, so far, been shown to be safer than Viagra.

I got the jab and the follow up. Just saw what was happening around me and decided I'd like to live. So far no penises growing out of my forehead or any extra limbs making an appearance.

At the end of the day this is American.

Get the shot, don’t get shot, it should be up to you/we the people.

That’s what made this country great, what our friends and family fought and died for. The right to choose. F#ck anyone for trying to force others to bend to their wills or beliefs.

I’ve seen to much good and bad on BOTH sides. We’ll never know the truth behind any of this. Maybe our kids kids will when they release the testing data and what not. So for now I’m just gonna accept those around for the decisions THEY thought where IN THEIR best interest and I hope they do the same for me.

Bless you all, rant over.

Good morning bb, finally getting some good rain in the missouri region yesterday into today.

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend, and having a good morning
GMorning to you all, We've a nice clear 75f day today and warm overnight, no blankets needed. I've a Sour D almost 9 weeks in flower but fking Sativa's don't like to finish. She's still putting out white hairs and doesn't look close whereas the other 3 different stain girls with her are just about done. I've let a couple go almost 12 weeks and they were still putting out fresh white hairs. I said fk it and pulled them but they dried to fluff, over dried and no body to it.

I'm wondering how to finish plants with a high % Sativa in them properly. They don't want to finish like Indica's........I've lowered the intensity at 8 weeks to let them ripen but it doesn't seem to be having the effect on the Sour D as she's still has hair standing up all proud looking for sunshine.

I was just Looking at Amnesia Haze to grow but as soon as I read sativa I closed the page...It doesn't seem worth it...does anyone grow sativa's on purpose??
Well yes I do I prefer the buzz no 💯 sativa but 70/30 and they just take longer to finish 10-12 weeks 14 on the high end - I try to stick with 10-12 week varieties

Yeah, that is the most advanced in flowering of my 3 plants. Was waiting to see if they reveg or what. I won't complain if they flower early, they are fairly large.
My hypothesis is that I grew them under 18-6 inside and when I moved them outside between the houses the day was shorter and bam. Sound plausible?
I like this spot because its almost impossible to see that section of my yard. Would I avoid the issue if I just start outside?

I will put them in a different section of the yard next year perhaps if its an issue.
I say no ? Must see 12 hours f darkness - is it I. A shaded spot? Bought from a reputable breeder ? Could b an auto ?

meanwhile they were closing gyms, getting you to drive to McDonalds for a free box of masks, and almost made it where you needed a vaccine to get fucking groceries.

Sorry there's that negativity creeping in again. @steamroller I can only blindfold for so long
We barely knew it existed here in Fla some die hard mask up still ! Lol but no mandates where I lived - never been tested ,

It is on the side yard between two houses that do throw shade. They definitely see over 12 hours of light, but not 12 hours of direct light .

Two plants are from known breeder and one plant was from freebie seeds.

I doubt it’s a breeder issue with both varieties flipping. Must be the location

I’m change the subject here mmmmmm….. let’s look for a picture - random feel free to comment on wtf? Lol

Pic 3 - in the press - I cannot duplicate this. Well I can, but not consistently. My pressing yields are way too low.

I upped the RH in the jar to 69% for a few days, buds noticeably sticker, but the yield was about the same.

About to order a small round pre-press and try again. I know it is one of these variables I have wrong.

Yeah mabey from all the chilly weather, and the over cast from the smoke up north. Our out door at one farm would flower a couple weeks earlier than the farm a few roads over every year same strains same clones.the farm where it flowered early got a little shade the other farm was full sun.

Yes, people were dying in masses... So sad. It really got under my skin when people said it was just like the flu and/or it was all made up. The backlog of just what to do with all the bodies in NYC was heart wrenching...

My stepdad and mom got it three times, no vaccine, just glad they made it as they are older. I was def worried for them each time

A friend of mine his mother and grandfather were perfectly fine no covid. They went got the Vax on the same day same time. They had to get them at 2 different locations because availability was still low. So the grandfather was the driver since mom had bad knees. Anyway less than 24 hours later my friend found his mom dead and went to call the grandpa couldn't get through to him and found him deceased as well. Both were older but covid free. Not saying it was the Vax or not. It was however enough for me to weigh my general health and immune system functionality and decide it wasn't for me. I got young kids.

If I had to parallel it to weed I guess the best analogy would be bringing outdoor plants inside.

Sure, you MIGHT not get a tent infestation, but do you really want to chance it, knowing what the consequences could be?

A few of my relatives work in health. Some of the stories they told me were sad not only because people were dying like flies but that some wouldn't accept why, literally, to their dying breath. One of my cousins told me a story about an older man who refused to accept the diagnosis his doctor was giving him, yelling at the doctor that he was a stooge for big pharma and that he was scamming patients for money. He refused any treatment until he was given the correct diagnosis. He died on a ventilator.

I understand how people who live out in rural areas where your closest neighbor is a mile away from you could see social distancing or wearing masks as silly but I digress. Much like bringing outdoor plants inside it only takes that one instance. Once it's in it's in.

There is a ton of broscience that happens in the grow community and everyone I know complains about why these people spread it and how we should listen to those qualified to be giving out that kind of information yet, somehow, doctors and degreed professionals, people we depend on to direct us when we have these episodes, are in on some sort of worldwide conspiracy.

Just never made sense to me......

Stick about a 2 gram bud no prepress in there and see what happens - can you set a warm up pressure and a final pressure ? Or hit the buttons and go - I just picked my rectangle mold in the scrap bin yesterday

OK will do.

On the temp I can set upper and lower plate temp, but no curve.

On the pressure, there is an adjustment but it seems to me the way to up the pressure is to have a smaller area to press.

I've got new stuff arriving tomorrow I'll give it a go and let you know.

I'm growing Amnesia Haze on purpose. That's because I like sativa. Growing them has been much more challenging than the indica-dominant Black Jack in my other tent. Then again, I'm discovering the smaller tent is a bit harder to control, as well. I'm glad I have both the AH plants in the same tent. Even though they're finally growing well, I still expect a long flowering period. Because they're long-growing, it probably works better to put them in the same tent. They're due to be flipped next weekend. We'll see how long it takes them to finish.

Its because when you eat an edible, you get way more 11-hydroxy-THC which is a cannabinoid not in high levels when smoking. Its cuz your liver gets so much more of the cannabis than smoking you end up with more of the good stuff!
Depends what you mean by good… almost all of the health benefits are destroyed in say a bong or a joint. Dry flower vape and edibles give a lot more diversity in cannabinoids

Just reread you post so now im waiting on the facepalms again lol. Cmon ppl lets go i earned it

I may be able to get a quick vid tomorrow depends my garage is pretty full of crap right now - how or do you preheat the puck before squeeezing

I'm not a staunch conspiracy theorist or anything, but yeah that whole situation was sus. None of us got the shot and I've never had a flu shot. We all had covid once and it was mild. I tested positive with zero symptoms, kiddo just cold like, hubs flu like. My kid is vaccinated, I'm not anti Vax, but only for the mandatory ones for the bad shit. I didn't even want to do chicken pox, but it's mandatory now. My Dr. Shamed me for not getting one, I can't remember which... tdap I think? Whatever, my kid was breastfed and is healthy as a horse, never has needed antibiotics yet at 7, never an ear infection or tonsil issue or any of that. It's the mandating shit that my anarchist tendencies have the issue with. You want it? Great, get 5, you don't? That's your choice. My sister in law was ready to leave her career over it and the mandate got overturned now there's lawsuits for wrongful termination and shit.
doctors are creepy. my mother always told me up until she died at 76 yrs. that i never had chicken pox, dr told me i was crazy that i must have had it so young and didn't remember
. i'm like my mom didn't remember either lol. he tested me and said i was positive for chicken pox so he said i needed the shingles vax. weird.

That's so sad! So many people lost. I didn't know anyone who lost their life. All my relatives were vaccinated. I just had the current booster. I'm in my 70s, so I'm in a vulnerable group. The vaccinations made me feel weak for a few days, but I'm still here. I was happy when the vaccines became available.

I disagree. This country is great when we all work together. Individual rights end when they deprive other people of their rights. That includes endangering the health and wellbeing of others. There's no excuse for that. We all have a right to life.

Epidemiology involves a population-wide view. Yes, a vaccine might harm a few, but it is purpose is to save many more than it harms. It's better to lose 1 out of a thousand than it is to lose 10 out of a thousand. That's not an easy decision for anyone, but it's the best decision. The reason we have government is to make decisions that serve the welfare of the greatest number of citizens, even when they are gut-wrenching decisions. We'll never know how many died unnecessarily because some thought their rights were more important, but we can be sure many did.

I can't imagine how anyone could ignore the carnage, but they did. I've heard stories about patients dying in disbelief. How could anyone die from a hoax? As a result, many doctors and nurses decided to change careers. Now, the medical profession is understaffed.

Weird but possible, and from what I've heard, you sure don't want shingles. I've had the shingles vaccinations and don't recall any side effects.

yeah you're right. I just thought it was odd. as i don't recall having them so i must have had no reaction to my exposure to it.

I have not been. 200F at 120 seconds by default. Longer does not seem to help.
I preheat under light pressure for like 20/30 sec depending then sliwly increase pressure for about the same time total about 2 mins
Under full pressure can be sure what that is ? For about 45 seconds to 1 minute some strains longer but heat temp and pressure seem to be the biggest factors - I m ok with lower yoelf for higher quality if I feel there’s a lot left I never swish twice I’ll wash the puck . Lol it’s alright oil not the best but better that burn shit pressed at 220 . Lol

Anyways turn up the heat 5 degrees and see

I had chicken pox and shingles in my 20s. Not fun.

I definitely don't think it was a hoax and it was definitely deadly for many.... the way it was handled was what was crazy to me I guess. I didn't go anywhere and if I did I wore a proper mask. I feel like either decision was a gamble, but when many I know in the health profession refused it because of effects they personally saw after it, like one cardiac nurse that saw so many young people with new and unexplained heart issues, I decided I'd gamble on the side of fighting it off if I got it, and I made a good bet for me, others were not so lucky. I'm relatively young and healthy and have always had a good immune system. I also know a few that have been boosted like 4 times and have had it like 6 times or more and it was severe with hospitalization every time, and one lady I kne died, she was old and unhealthy. So who knows... it's a weird one with the way it is so different in different people. In my opinion, it's not a real vaccine if it only maybe sorta makes you less likely to die. People still caught it and spread it vaxxed, and I met a lot of people that thought since they had it, they were invincible, and therefore no longer careful, which was counterproductive to the cause. Enough about that nonsense... storied for my future grandkids I guess lol.

good morning y’all!! Rare beautiful morning in Rotenchester NY. Cool, sunny and a nice breeze. We got a perfect rain yesterday (short of one 10min torrential down pour) that the farmers and gardeners desperately needed.

Unfortunately for me my day is scheduled to demo the beast pictured below and lug it out of a dungeon (I could pummel my younger self for picking this career path🤣🤣🤣 hard work pays though🤷🏼‍♂️)

So I got this idea last night and wonder how dumb it is so please set me straight.

I’m moving my girls from one gal pots this weekend to 25 gal bags where they will remain for summer.
My thought was to put a thick layer (7-8”) of soil in the bottom where most the roots will try to reach. Then a layer (2-3”) of perlite/coco then another decent layer of soil (5-6”) then another layer of perlite/coco (2-3”) then the final layer of soil to finish off the bag (probably 7-8”). Kinda like a layered cake. The idea being a way to aid in draining and quicker dry back (but not to quick) WHILE promoting good oxygen transfer. Thoughts?

Mimicking sedimentary layers.

Hmm, interesting theory, sounds like one that might have to be tested to find out if it works. Maybe do half and half, some all soil, some layers? You can always just add more perlite throughout to help drainage and dry back. My thought would be, that the coco would probably suck moisture from the soil and it would stay evenly moist that way, since coco dries faster... but would it fuck with feeding and nutrients? Are only the roots directly in the coco going to get the benefits of more o2? Will the roots prefer one over the other and just not grow into the bottom layer? All questions I can't answer lol.

My thoughts say no don't do it, a 25 gal bag isn't something you need to fk with layering soil & perlite. I've not heard of your method being done and what happens if it fails and you have issues. It'll be too big to start over and your big beautiful plant may suffer because of it. I'd suggest a proper mix of you're ingredients for soil and leave the layering to a small practice plant.

Coco is a bitch to use if you're not familiar with it requires multiple daily watering. A 25 gal bag can support a huge plant, Don't fk it up with an experiment on a dreamed up soil plan........Just my 2 bits no offence meant

I’m pretty sure I can’t think up something nobody else ever has so it’s probably already been done and abandoned.

PC my plants where HUGE last year and at the end needed watering and feeding almost daily so I’m sure you’re way more right than wrong. I will save for another day.

Thanks y’all for being a sounding board this morning

Promix type soils are far more forgiving than coco, almost idiot proof and when mixed with perlite it'll hold water a lot longer than coco. I'd also add some vermiculite to hold the moisture even longer if I was in a dry area

Layering soil materials with very different textures will not help with soil drainage. in fact, it will do the opposite.

When water is passing through porous media, it will hang up and stop at the interface of a texture change, and then only drain into the layer below it after the upper layer is completely saturated.

For a visual explanation, see:
The part you want to see starts at 5:27.

Mimicking sedimentary layers.
Only plant’s generally grow root in one layer.

Op have a read here.
