I usually knock out as much dirt from the roots as possible and keep it separate for the next run. I believe that many of the beneficial bacteria and fungus the plant liked last time will be in the used soil. Like @Stoneyluv said, just recharge it with some worm castings, bone and blood meal and a little bat guano and you should be good. I don't recharge my soil but I'm pouring salts into it so I would imagine that a lot of it stays in the soil along with the root material breaking down back into the soil.

I used to have a dirt bin where I'd just dump the dirt that was in the pots, roots and all, into the dirt pile and mix it into the rest of the soil. It would get rained on and stuff but it being out there it was breaking down so I'm guessing the time in the bin allowed it to recharge along with mixing it into the rest of the dirt. One of the things I use to love about my dirt bin was I'd have tons of night crawlers wiggling around. Always a good sign when your bin is full of night crawlers.

Actually, I do use it indoors. When I fill my pots, but before I transplant, I do a light drench of Azamax and leave the pots filled with soil in my carport for a day or two to let the pesticide do its work. So far I haven't had any issues with bugs or disease.

I understand that it is a no no to be bringing in stuff from outdoors indoors and I do quarantine any plant material that I'm bringing in but the plants seem to really like the soil I've been reusing so, even after I've zapped the soil with some pesticide, I keep an eye out for any soil bourne pests or disease. This last run I used outdoor soil using this method and I didn't even need to use sticky traps.

How do you re-use your soil?

Do you knock it out somwhere and clean out all the old roots or something different?

i used soil to the extreme in the past. i reused that batch over for like ten years!!! it's only this past year that i've bought new soil. using soil over and over ain't cheap. all the different amendments i've bought over the years probably triples the cost of what new soil cost i bet.

i was getting low on some of the goodies i add back in and decided to try brand new soil out. new soil is a lot more convenient i can tell you that. often thought about buying a cement mixer just to mix it all up but never did.

normally i dump all my used soil in a tote and let it dry and remove the bigger roots. i like to leave most of the roots in it though, the dry root acts kind of like coco when it builds over time.

then i scoop it out a bucket at a time and add my goodies then mix it up with a auger on a drill...

not too fussy with amounts, everything i use is natural and organic so i use about a handful per five gallon bucket. like roots said, some bone meal, kelp meal, azomite, micros, and a good npk base or booster is easiest if you don't want to get into poops and potassium's and all that.

i tend to go overboard just because i have so many different minerals and stuff left over i'm just trying to use it up so it doesn't go to waste.

but for this current batch i only added two things....



i plan to feed with grengro nutes to keep all the other goodies in tact.

i got the stonington soil for $35 a bag on amazon, not worth the hassle of mixing it all the time anymore. it's just this last round were such small plants in huge containers and didn't really fill it in much and still smelled like fresh soil when i dumped it out and made the call then.

once this round is done this soil will go out in the veggie garden like so many other do.

i watched it all live and was listing to the scanner... his front tires were so flat spotted and his temp was climbing and cutting the engine off in two turns and really stumbled the very last turn under green so they talked about it and decided to come in, kyle said well i don't think i can win with what i got so Greg ives called him in... nobody else came!!!!!! barely anybody!!! 27th on the restart!!!!!

the team worked well together,, there a bunch of spotters at that track and they all seems to have their own cadence or way they call things on the track. they were really struggling with all the blind spots.. i wonder if this is gonna be an issue for the cup spotters as well??

when that last restart happened and he was like 10th i kinda had a feeling.. once he got to the front two it was a matter of keeping cool. they were telling him on the radio, let them slow themselves down don't wear your stuff out.. played right into his hands... what a finish!!!!!

big boys tomorrow though... much tougher competition!!! glad larson got the seat time, bet he learned a few things on what not to do.

in a pinch i've added stuff like this to the soil, readily available at most places and works well...



i'm also a big fan of soil builders.. i get this one from a local place but there are a lot of brands out there that are very similar. when i add this stuff i go pretty heavy, about 10-15% of the soil will be bumpercrop when i mix it myself.

I have used that COM for other plants before and it is good stuff.

that was the first time i had watched the xfinity series live, i didn't realize you get to hear both channel 1 & 2 on the scanner, we only get channel one on cup, it was really cool getting to hear the back story on the 17 car as the spotter and crew chief were talking about larson privately. it was cool. i bet almost anyone could have won in that car bro.. they had him so set up and that team was so professional i don't think i've ever heard a race team operate like that before. they were so respectful of Kyle and each other. almost a model of how other teams should operate.

nascar Drive only had six or eight in-car cams though, cup has them in every single car each week, i'm sure you've watched it before.. not sure how i feel about suarez and la-gay-no in the booth though, joey's a dick and taco man as you call him speaks spanglish... just gets on my nerves a bit, not as bad as nbc whiners or nothin but still i kept the volume low. haha

got a new batch of carts to try out, i was pleasantly surprised to find out they're real wood tips. wasn't advertised that way so i assumed plastic and couldn't tell in the pic so i took a chance at $1.90ea bought ten of them, tried one out already and i will be buying more for sure, nice and clean taste!!

damn man, i can't really help much on the doctor stuff but i sure can help on the outlaw side...

this is how i make them in a no waste no mess fashion...

i start with a syringe, i use 3ml because that's what i got used to and was comfortable for me but you can use bigger ones if you want a bigger batch, i wouldn't really go any smaller though.

put your favorite full melt concentrate in the capped syringe, no plant material!! for a 3ml syringe i use 1.7 grams of sugar, if you use something stiffer like shatter then only for 1.6grams and if you're using squish or something loose then go up to 1.8 grams...



the next thing you will need is a liquidfier, there are a few brands out there and you don't need this exact brand but this is my favorite..

use the dropper to fill up the syringe, it won't take much.... then i put a small rubber cap on it. the cap doesn't need to be tight, just to keep the liquid from falling out if i tilt it...





then i put it in a mason jar and tighten the lid and set it in a pot of water... it doesn't need to be submerged, if you use too much water the jar will float and tip over, hence needing the rubber cap on the syringe.

don't boil it, just get it warm enough to where small bubbles form on the bottom of the pot then back the heat down a hair from there. use a small electric hot plate for this. and i cover the pot with a lid to keep the heat in.



you let that sit in the hot water covered for 20-30 minutes or so... till the syringe is quite warm to the touch.

this is where it will get a little tricky for ya, you need to mix it up in the syringe. this can be done by hand with a dab tool but it will take a good 20 minutes of hand stirring and not that practical. most peeps get tired at the five minute mark.

i cheat... i happen to have one of those cheap weed grinders that have batteries and a small blade to chop up the weed, they're garbage for buds but awesome for mixing... i shoved a dab tool on the evd where the blade was attached,,, it's kid of like an immersion mixer for the syringe.

the first mixing looks translucent like in the video, once mixed put it back on the heat for another ten minutes or so then mix it one last time and it then becomes clear. from there you can either eat it as is just applying it directly to your sore or put it in a vape pen and inhale to get high.

It's usually Michael Waltrip and Jamie Little on the call for tv with the trucks but this week the trucks had a crazy scene with the 04s entire rear end coming out intact and the winner #11 had the best burnout of the weekend

And if you hate Logano now just wait...He said it's beyond 5 years out but when he retires he'll be in the booth for Fox.

i can make them from pretty much any concentrate as long as it doesn't have plant material. i stopped using terps a while ago and just enjoy the natural taste of the concentrate with natural terps. the added ones taste too fake to me and make me cough.

the carts you used has a play in it as well. you gotta use carts made for heavy oil, they have different size holes leading to the heaters.

Even parts rosin with wax liquidizer a little heat in a shot glass and the syringe.
I got carts and batteries from Vape4ever.
I think I got tomorrow off so will be mailing you and Bandit out stickers tomorrow.
I'll toss in a couple carts and a syringe[ I stocked up a little~!] in your envelope.

Was waiting to hear about the rear end falling out~!
That was some shit and a real testimony besides drivers falling out of their cars after the race to the beating they both took.

I have to bookmark it and come back to it when I'm ready. Information isn't quite sticking right now since I'm still so tired and had computer/internet/password issues today that put my head in a spin.

I didn't even know there were different types of carts for thicker oils.
I gotta get out all my stuff and figure out what I need to proceed but I think I have everything but the little motor grinder.

By no plant material does that mean no wax and I should dewax my rosin?
I'm also wondering about my seeded harvest...The squish coming out of it is very liquidy no matter what I adjust in how I suqish it so I kinda hate it trying to vape in the Peak or pen vape but it just hit me I should use that stuff and try making carts again.
With my regular rosin I'd do the heating method to get it from hashy to liquid oil then add the CDT then mix and keep heated for several hours and then load in a syringe

i've done the shot glass tech as well, even one of those magnetic spinners. my way works great for small batches just because no cleanup or waste at all. that's about my only reason for doing it this way, zero cleanup!! well not zero, i still gotta wipe down the mixer and rubber cap but that's it!!

man these new wood tip ones hit nice!!! i really like them compared to the smart carts i always use. bought 200 of those years ago and still have half!! haha but these wood tips are working pretty great. and lately i've been using the seahorse for a battery, i like it better than a pen!!

i'm getting some goodie bags together for you guys too... you guys have just got to try this trop cherry.. cherry me impressed!!!! i tasted it over the burning plant material and paper!!!!

yes sir, they make carts with holes that vary between 1mm-2mm and at every .25mm but ive seen ones at 2.5mm already!! i personally think 1.75mm-2mm is perfect. i think 2mm is the most popular anymore from what i see being sold.

and no, you don't need to dewax, i let gravity do that work for me. if using squish, after the mixing i pop the plunger in the syringe and let it set upside down plunger down overnight, then all the wax sinks to the bottom and sticks to the plunger and lets you squirt the oil in without the wax!! ( i learned that one by accident, what a lesson!!!)

here a shot of one of mine with the wax separated in the very bottom.. i make it a habit to store all my oil syringes this way, i keep em upside down in shooter shot glass,,

printed a new case for your XLVG... i just didn't have anything for a rez except this good kitchen gadget that i really didn't want to get swallowed up in grow stuff so i printed one out that holds the center piece in place and hold water, then just a slip on cover for now. i want to start the seeds tonight if i can!

yep, starting seeds already!! not for me though.. these dozen new plants will only be short time vegged by me and they're going to couple friends to grow outdoors. it will be their first real grow. i gave them each a plant late in the summer last year and they really liked it and caught the bug. so i offered to grow them each six plants and they will grow them together (they're brothers) at the one guys place so i'll start six strains, two of each.

i let them pic out everything i had and they picked all greenpoints so the lineup is: grape jelly - purple blizzard - bubbles - purple fritter - sticky icky - alien punch

pretty good lineup!!!! i just might sneak a cutting or two of each for myself!!! it might just work out good timing if i do clones!! we'll see..

i bet waiting those 3 or four more weeks to start the next round won't be terrible... it's not like you're gonna run out of bud!!! hehe

and sometimes making the grows easier are just as good as making them efficient and get the enjoyment in another way kind of. sometimes grows are just more fun than others and i don't even think of the extra cost. besides i'd probably go insane if i put down on paper on how long i spent on this last batch,,, wooo we'd need counseling after that tally up!!!

Bandit's on no veg and that last round i vegged for like 17 weeks and my plants were still tiny!!!! hahahaha i gotta laugh, don't wanna cry!!!

i remember running out of weed... it sucked!!! got fed up and started growing for myself and haven't run out since!!!! if i ever run out now there's a serious problem!!!! hahaha

i remember years ago i did all the math i could down to the penny on growing an average plant. this is when i was clone only and smaller lights. from my numbers it costed me about $8.50 a plant to grow!!!! a plant!!!! once i realized this is when i started spending more on it. i try not to think about the cost of electricity anymore and just consider it what it is and know that i'm not gonna stop growing so not much i do there. i try to keep my savings down with seeds, ferts, and soil..

i'm not gonna stop so the cost is what it is... food prices have gone up all my life and i didn't stop eating!!

IDK if I should go down this rabbit hole because carts and me have a thing. They're just so ez and discreet I end up using them as my go-to. I'll vape on dog walks, at costco, in the sauna and so on. I just stay high all day with them them things!
Kinda down to the point where when I'm in a legal state that's pretty much what I buy in bulk and yep I've had some dandys.

I got pantsed by electric bills last Summer. $565 was peak. Rate increases and tier pricing aint no joke but I hacked them sumbitches.
So at it's peak I estimated at least $120/month in electricity from my g/room w/ AC. Roughly $65 w/out AC.
I figured out the tier and peak pricing then worked around it. Also along with no veg, ran 11/13 to save even more.
I got the report yesterday and check it out...



The drop from one week to the next is a direct result of my grow ending and shutting down. It only cost me $20/month to run my room!
The $84 dollar charge is a bit misleading because my utility is not just electric. Water and waste water & sewer use is piled on as well as street services, trash pick up and various fees so my bill with a grow included today is $290. Next month is when I'll see lowest bill after the grow and it will probably be around $200. These are rates I can live with but I know when that Summer heat comes on they'll double but if I do this right and shut down in July and August I can work around it and not get that shockingly high utility bill.

I agree on the cost of soils though. That's just part of it and you can get the good stuff and have a great grow or cheap out and have issues and under-perform. Just better to take the bill on that one and move on. $40 of soil for every 3 plants and each plant is worth roughly $220-$420 on the black market makes it a no-brainer on good soils

holy shit.. $565!! i'd freak!! i would have turned the main off and said welp thats it for a couple months, get used to reading during the day!!!!

damn man, i don't think i should ever complain about a single power bill ever. we don't have that peak pricing and the only tier we have is residential versus commercial rates. if we happen to live in a commercial zoned area our bill is 3x normal but those are kinda rare cases around here. with both my flower and veg going i run around $150 a month. in the summer with the pond and A/C (we use cheap window units, no central air) it's about $180.. i think my highest to date is $230 for the month. my trash isn't included in any of that.. that cost me $270 a year. and water isn't an option here, gotta provide your own. part of my electric bill after the $15k to drill a hole and $1800 for a pump that has been replaced twice so far.

but man kudos to you for working your system they force ya in to save that much... $20 a week to run your big room isn't that bad at all, you can live with that!!!

i think me just growing in rounds is where i should look for my savings, in the past i would have all the lights going 100% all the time growing perpetual. now i have breaks where lights aren't on or at low energy. that and things like no veg or maybe even going back to 10/14 or 11/13 for flowering. i used to do that when i had the two 315's in there.

btw, you mentioned the ss550's maybe stretching to 40" of footprint on the long side... 40 i can live with so i'd love to know any numbers you get with your new pro meter to see if that is doable. i keep mine at the 24-30" height range too so our numbers should be pretty close. i understand it's gonna be oval and not in the corners but 40" i'd be happy. so if you happen to do any measuring i'd be very interested in what you get in the long side of the lights. mine are side by side so i know i have the width short side covered but still oval, i'm aware...

veg cab just has the two clones and the VG!!! herbs are still kickin it too... i'm gonna move those outside to me poly tunnel soon...

and the mainliners are still vegging, i have them all in final pots and in the flowering cabinet but currently still 18/6 at 80% veg spectrum. not sure when i'll flip yet, it's gonna just be a normal hard flip though. i got enough going on with them just being mainlined and i might try a screen of some sort so i don't need the complication of timing out flowing this time. a couple of them aren't looking that good and i wanted to make sure everything was thriving before i sent them into womanhood!! and i still see floor so i don't think they're quite big enough. i did that last time and i had a ton of wasted footprint with small scrawny plants so i want to make sure i at very least fill out space once in flower. i think i'm not far off but also don't feel ready yet...





that's it for now... hope to have some new seedlings by the weekend!

that was the first time i had watched the xfinity series live, i didn't realize you get to hear both channel 1 & 2 on the scanner, we only get channel one on cup, it was really cool getting to hear the back story on the 17 car as the spotter and crew chief were talking about larson privately. it was cool. i bet almost anyone could have won in that car bro.. they had him so set up and that team was so professional i don't think i've ever heard a race team operate like that before. they were so respectful of Kyle and each other. almost a model of how other teams should operate.

nascar Drive only had six or eight in-car cams though, cup has them in every single car each week, i'm sure you've watched it before.. not sure how i feel about suarez and la-gay-no in the booth though, joey's a dick and taco man as you call him speaks spanglish... just gets on my nerves a bit, not as bad as nbc whiners or nothin but still i kept the volume low. haha

Everyone is different but I'd suggest if radiation is offered going for a medium or low dose more times rather than a high dose at less times. It's pretty strong stuff when concentrated in the face area. My FIL had it done and went full blast hardcore and I'm sure he regretted that as it fried alot of stuff including blood vessels and shit, his jaw bone went necrotic basically had no blood flow and the bone started to crumble.

Not meant to scare ya buddy, just something to be aware of and really pay attention to/listen to an expert on...he went full on hard head style and things could have been better I believe dialed back and dialed in a little better.

I make old school RSO and a couple different washes.
Thery are the same with the dwell time being the difference between them as I understand.
Freeze your herb and your ISO.
Most will say go with 99% ISO but that may be expensive or even hard to find.
I settle for 91% that I can get at any grocery store or drug store for $2 a quart.
Have jar about 1 quart and place your frozen herb and alcohol in it.
For RSO I as understand you let it stay in the freezer for as long as you want over 1 hour.
I have done weeks~!
Then you separate the material from the alcohol with cheese cloth or a sieve.
From there you either cook it off in a rice cooker or in a distiller.
I have and use both methods. The rice cooker is cheap and should be used outside.
This is also why you use cheap ISO as you are not reclaiming it. It just evaporates away, leaving you the oil which cooks at a higher temp.
When the volume is low in the rice cooker I transfer to a pyrex bowl and finish in stove[ this will stink].
I turn oven on to 200f and when it reaches temp I shut it off and place bowl in.
I do this as many times as needed.
If you use a distiller you reclaim your alcohol and more expensive stuff like grain alcohol or 99% Iso can be used.

i've made RSO before. i used naptha. i pretty much did exactly what Steamroller suggested. only i didn't use IPA i used the naptha. 99% is not that expensive considering what you are making IMO.. here's a couple links from the ones i've bought over the years in case you would want to go that route...

The roots on 2 of my mainliners that are nowhere near as good as yours had the best roots of the whole room today when I up potted.
It was noticeable that they had better roots than even the nicest almost 3 foot tall plant in 1g containers.
I am in no hurry since next grow will be regulars that might even be sativas so I need to learn to go slow~!

The seeds are for your buddies when do you think you start your next?
I mean if today was zero we would have 6-8 weeks of flower at least.
Thinking I can wait a month or more easy before thinking about a summer grow.
Maybe sneak a no veg 12/12 grow in for the summer?
That might be a great way to use up 'extra seeds' that I don't want to have to dedicate so much time to.

asap!!! haha if i grow the next batch from seed it will probably be early May and if i decide to take cuttings of his plants and just go with clones to save some time then maybe play that one by ear and maybe make the table bigger to fit a few more and try to get a jump on them.

i was a little disappointed last round with some plants being so small and such a small yield but then i was thinking this time i will have three plants of each strain so maybe none will be a small jar.. hoping anyway!!
