Zen_seeker’s DIY Mixmash

In anticipation of chopping in a week or two I took two spindly cuttings. Two more are sitting in water jic.

All plants are drinking a gallon every two days. I expect Zen 1 to slow down any day now but still getting new buds. Northern lights just isn’t done yet.

Something I was looking into. Found this explanation. Not sure if correct.

“The actual reason for giving a plant dark periods during Veg and Clone stages is basically the apexial tip. The plant, while the lights are on, are getting the plants main focus of energy... ie. Sugars.

But when you switch the plants to darkness the apexial tip is no longer relevant because there is no light source to define where the apexial tip is.

This in turn causes the plant to focus its energy on root growth and stalk girthing (Main Base) This is why i see no real problem giving early clones 24 hrs light, but once they start rooting i always give them atleast a 4 hr dark cycle.”

Not sure if bro science but interesting to look into.

Zen 2 Zone 3:

Just after a feeding.

After a bit of LST.
IMG_6371.jpeg

Found wind burn the other day. It’s LARF to be trimmed out later.
IMG_6372.jpeg

Pointed the fan down as low as the pole will allow. Need longer cords. 😝

Hope letting them grow free rage works out.

Thanks Mosh. I’m getting there. It’s more half trellis half SCROG but it does help with quantity. 👍

Wish I had a soil guy up here to work with on occasion but looking into Bokashi with @stonemason today. I like his style and results.

Going to join Little Miss Muffit and try to make curds & whey. 😝

Local Lowes got taken over by Rona. They are leaving Canada. Old stores closing for good. Got this $135 Scott’s Pro sprayer for $32.

I just got a 2gal. Chapin sprayer, this looks nicer? SS

Researching after the fact it looks like they are all basically the same. Higher priced ones might have better quality, and a lifetime warranty. As long as Scott’s is still in business.

For $32 I’m okay with it. Really going to help with the yard and garden.

Agree Zen.that back left sativa looks cooked and ready to come out of the oven 😀buds look dank brother 👌👊

I expected the NL to finish first. That’s why it’s up front. For easier removal.

I’ll see if either is ready tonight with the microscope. CA should be ready as of yesterday but can go to 77 days in the past.

NL is all new to me. Just happy I got them to flower so well together. Even the same feed mix.

That back left just has that done appearance to me in the group photo post #525..if it isn’t it ain’t far away as you said..

yeah it’s cool when they eat the same instead of mixing up another batch just for the one hogging out.the only nuisance I have is when they arnt finishing off at the same time..I just do a mix for the ones behind and just use that and water it down for the ones finishing up in a seperate container…

Literally doing that now. About to scope before lights out. I died early last night and slept instead of checking then.

Who needs an alarm when bathroom calls wake you every 3-4 hours. 🤷‍♂️🤦

Both appear to b at maximum potency.if my girls go longer than expected and say If 95%+ of the pistils are brown and receded with all cloudy trics I will harvest them.usually I will take them to 10-20% amber to take the raciness away to have abit of couchlock so there is a couple ways me thinks to determine when to chop..there are plants out there that genetically don’t amber at all.the brown appearance of the sativa (pistils brown) is the reason I was thinking it was done 🙂

I was wondering if my going from 75% light to 100% and back caused something. Wanted to see if I could get to 100% and stay but nute burn and brown pistils was what I saw so I went back to 75%. As of a few days ago I’m down to 50% again.

I’m hoping to harvest soon but NL seems to have more clear.

Zen 1 Zone 3: Flower Day 73

Chop day for CA aka Sativa. I don’t think sees going to get much better and I need to harvest one at a time.
IMG_6536.jpegIMG_6537.jpeg

Purple goes further down too. Around all bud sites except the very bottom. IMG_6538.jpegIMG_6539.jpeg

Smells wild. Heavy musk. Lots of citrus. IMG_6540.jpegIMG_6541.jpegIMG_6545.jpegIMG_6550.jpeg

This is the reward and casualties.

Really looking forward to this one. Something new and fresh. I’m trying to find out it’s origin now as I don’t think Northern Lights should go 11+ weeks.

Looks good man.love the purple colouring….I think the heat could maybe cause the pistils to brown from heat? and the tip burn .maybe when running higher intensity room was warmer and rh was lower that can make them take up more nutes than water.just a thought..

When we had the two(?) week warm and humid spell it mucked me up. But I’m used to BBQs so had an eye on it. Think I got lucky and nothing got ruined.

After a few days drying.
IMG_6606.jpegIMG_6605.jpeg

Smells real dank and musky. Trying to leave it alone to dry before testing. 😉

Colds leeching in at night when lights are on. Keeps temps in the low 20’s and helps keep humidity in the 40RH range.

Not so good for drying. Keeping the shower at 60% humidity is proving difficult.

Tricky trying to post today. Keep it short and sweet. Zen 1 is still going.

IMG_6701.jpeg

Zen 2 tent is going nuts. Need to pull out and trim after stretch.
72724391564__97D51FCC-4BF6-494F-B934-048B2182FF03.jpeg

Trying to keep stretch to a minimum.

A few leaves near the door have this again. Looks like NT but I’m pretty sure Aqua said it was from high humidity and temperature.

Need to search my thread later to see if that’s correct. @Aqua Man 👍

DIY Coffee Can Cloner
@Rootsruler

I’ve used old red Folgers coffee cans for years. Great for old paint or garden uses.

I started using them in the tents to hold water in front of my intake fans to add humidity. Not long after I started tossing trimmed branches in the water just to see what would happen.

Over the summer I started getting roots in just two weeks. No lid, no hormones, no scraping or preparation. This was in the veg tent just under the canopy. No brown spots or yellow.

In late fall I added a lid with a hole to make things darker. Not sure it helped but didn’t hurt either. I usually change the water every week to two weeks. Keeping the water about an inch or two from the top.

These are from 2 weeks ago. To much light even at lowest setting. Photos are from Wednesday.
IMG_6671.jpeg
IMG_6672.jpeg

This was Thursday after I planted the one with the most roots. IMG_6724.jpegIMG_6725.jpeg

So I made a cheesy cloner yesterday as an experiment.IMG_6714.jpegIMG_6718.jpegIMG_6719.jpegIMG_6720.jpegIMG_6721.jpegIMG_6722.jpeg

I usually don’t use plugs but tried them once or twice before. You just need to cut or melt a side channel all the way into the middle, just big enough to slide the stem out later.

I’m looking for a better spongy material that’s thicker. More like a pool noodle. I’m thinking the white packing foam that comes with things like TVs, but not styrofoam.

Hope this helps someone or gives them a better idea. 👍

Neoprene is the only thing that comes to mind, but it sounds like you're trying to DIY.

What if you made square collars? That denseboard won't flake off like that with a nice clean razor blade.

Cloner is done for now.
72738663802__FFBDBCC5-0F80-4A92-96D2-CE6D5F24AAD0.jpeg72738665757__B4151ED0-FF8A-4A1B-8642-B5E000E0128D.jpeg

I just melted a channel. Paper clip was okay but copper 12g wire does a better one pass job.

IMG_6747.jpegIMG_6748.jpeg

Neoprene would be great but I don’t have any. I think the white packing foam that comes with some electronics, like swimming noodles, will work well.

Lags been real bad the last two days.

Was hoping to chop the NL tonight but G$ said he’d wait. Pulled the scope out…he’s right.

Some strange fox tails and new growth.

Very little amber yet.

We did get a little bonus after trimming. IMG_6779.jpeg
Not bad from less that 5 ounces. 😍

Zen 1 Zone 3: Flower Day 84 😳

Someone forgot to tell NL she’s only a 9 week plant. 🤔
IMG_6824.jpegIMG_6825.jpegIMG_6828.jpegIMG_6829.jpeg

Zen 2 Zone 3: Flower Day 20 👍

CB & NL2 will be split up after NL is harvested.
IMG_6826.jpegIMG_6827.jpeg

Clones are coming along. New cloner surprised me. Now I have to give away a clone. 🤷‍♂️

I’ve been rescuing some of last years garden plants that refused to die.

Chives used in mashed potatoes and last night’s salad.
IMG_6823.jpeg

Hollyhock that I thought was radish.
IMG_6832.jpeg

Strawberry bush, frozen to the stoop. Might not make it. 🤣IMG_6833.jpeg

Warming but snow and rain all week. Think I’m done with winter.

Zen 1 Zone 3: Flower Day 84

Chopped the Northern Lights a few hours after lights on.

IMG_6842.jpegIMG_6843.jpegIMG_6844.jpegIMG_6845.jpegIMG_6846.jpeg

So now I’ve split the last two plants.
Both are at Flower Day 20.

Zen 2 Zone 3: CB, last of my original strain.
