Grump's Mother-plant Grow 🌿

The Indigo clones have taken priority, so everyone in the back got taken out and cloned. I'm just doing one of each. It was getting pretty bushy in there.

What's the light on in there bud?

Pretty nice Christmas tree there, pretty symmetrical!!

Just 10%. I'm sure you could tighten her up if you you crank up the light.

Ha yeah. She's definitely the star of the show. Her offspring are going into the big tent any day now.

This little setup has been fun, but I'm debating on scrapping it so I can dry in this tent. The Indigo clones are ready for the big show.

There's a couple changes I'll make, mostly concerning light leakage. The supply tubing needs to be black and there's definitely penetration through the pvc. Might spray paint the whole thing...

The Indigo plant thrived, for sure. The Blue Cheese wasn't a big fan of the nute mix and the other two were borderline runts. Perfect little test run and I could probably pop some beans for the next batch any day now. I'll just do 4 strains this time, leaving the the other 4 sites open for clones.

This has been a lot of fun so thanks, everyone, for sharing the experience. I'll keep this thread going, thankfully.

Right on...but I meant what kind of light? Looks like it's doing a good job

Would you use ABS if you were to do it again? Surprised you think you had light leeks through the PVC.

I would spray-paint it 🤣

White PVC doesn't block all light and I can see some algae growth looking in through the plant-sites.

Some of the algae on the roots is from the inlet hose. It's accumulating there pretty heavily and there's likely been some bits break off and flow through the system, catching on roots and stuff.

I just thought it strange as you always see these setups in white PVC and not black ABS. All the ones they sell at grow stores or hardware stores in kits are white too.

ABS is usually for waste water but I’ve wondered if it would be as good to use?

Been a blast watching you with this project Grump!
IDK if you've considered it or not, but those systems can do incredible things flowering clones. No veg, just straight from clone to flower with yoyo or net support. That thing could be a weed machine with a fat haul every 65 days or so.

To a certain extent, algae growth has some benefit in hydro burning off excess nitrates that could be too much for your plants preventing burn but it's also a supply of it's own nutes and growth hormones. Those growth hormones help in making baddass clones off the mamas. Like it's own, naturally sourced cloning gel.
A thin, healthy looking bright green film is welcome but if it becomes dark or too thick to be taking too much oxygen then it's an issue.
Blue will prevent algae since it won't grow on blue surfaces. Painting it blue or wrapping in blue tape should do the trick to minimize growth

Yeah I almost expect to never run Veg nutes in the big tent again. These Indigo clones have a nice and healthy root system going. They'd do well to jump straight to flower from the little tent.

I've got everything drying in the big tent for now. Should only take a few days. Wet trimmed and it was airy as hell.

i knew that flowing water would be a pretty good rooting teq in theory, & estimated a week~ for roots to develop, glad its worked great for you in reality.

great system, good job.

i want to copy it for a "passive" system in the background of whatever else im doing.

These were cloned 26 days ago and are heading into the big boy tent today

These were cloned 10 days ago and seem to be doing ok... I need to do better monitoring their pH

Cold temps have really slowed down my clones. One is doing fine, GM, but the rest have yet to show roots. Still a strong green but I’ve had that before only to find it was still a stick. 🤣

Looking great man, you got it going on now. 👊

New addition to the mom tent.

No roots on the Indigo clone so I popped a bean. It's been a day over 2 weeks so my impatience is gonna write it up as a dud. 7/8 successful clones so far in the mother-dro system.

Carbon Crusher was labled "Legendary Unkown Strain" on his website. G$ says it's PLGC X Zero Gravity. Here's to hoping it makes it through the Mother-dro Thunderdome.

Carbon Crusher has yet to sprout. I didn't throw a heatmat under the germ dome at first so it could still make it...

A few days after no signs of life, I dropped it's cousin down next to it. Say hello to the newest contender in the Mother-drone Thunderdome... Glue Crush

Well after nearly a month... we've got a root on my Indigo Sapphire clone. Maybe won't lose these genetics after all.

All of these clones were cut the same day. The bigger three rooted in a week but the Indigo girl took her sweet ass time.

It’s been a slow grow here too. I got worried and took extras on flower as backups. The backups just started showing roots this weekend, but the originals are doing good now. Even with the heat mat it’s taking a lot longer than normal with a few.

Love the way your tube cloner looks/works. 👊

I definitely stunted them a little when I ran the portable AC down here. It barely got over 70 in the mother tent and the clones kinda threw a fit.

Thanks man. I'm loving it as well. With this last one rooting, I'm 8 for 8 in this system and most have taken only a week to root. Even the seedlings really like this setup.

The rootballs on the moms will become a pain eventually. Trimming them keeps them from creeping but they'll ball up right there, making it difficult to pull out. In the future, once this experiment is realized with it's own room, i'll likely go with 3inch pipe. More room and I could use the same collars in both systems.

Took a long time but the first four have started filling the cups with roots and been topped at least once. I let them touch the light first.

Now they have to stay healthy for a month or so. 🤞
