I hope it's not plagiarism to copy and paste what I already wrote, on another website I can't access any more. Boohoo.
To read what led up to this thread, you can still read what I wrote before I lost my access. LOL! HERE!

Mar 1, 2023
Long ago, in the land of windmills and tulips, the owner of AG Seeds (Todd) and I met. We were both refugees from the "war on drugs" being waged here in the US. Back in those days, 1994, I had the good fortune of being able to do a pheno hunt from some 115+ NL5 x Haze seeds. Most of the seeds, 100 of them, were gifted to me from Nevel with the stipulation that he could take cuttings from any pheno that was special. I also purchased a pac of 15 NL5 x Haze seeds right over the counter at Sensi Seed and that's enough info about that for now. The flower from that grow was already 'sold' to Arjan, owner of The GreenHouse Coffeeshop. I had been growing "Orange Bud" for Arjan for about a year at that point. A pheno from that grow was indeed special and quicky became a favorite of both myself and Todd. So between the 4 of us, Arjan Roskam, Nevil Schoenmakers, Todd and I, that pheno won a 1996 High Times Cannabus Cup for The GreenHouse Coffeeshop.

Fast forward about 30 years. Todd and I were chatting on the phone and he mentioned he had crossed some Northern Lights #2 with Haze and ask if I'd like to see how close he had come to that cup winning taste that we had loved so much, back when! "Why of course I'll grow out some of your seeds", I said. A few days later.... woohoo! So Todd, this one's for you brother!!!

...and for those reading this who don't know, this will be a journal of my first, complete hydro grow. I was and still am an 'earth' farmer. 👍 If you want to laugh at rookie, green horn mistakes learning how to do everything wrong, from pH ping pong to starving my "training tomato" nearly to death, here is the link to that thread. A special shout out to my wonderful, patient, knowledgable and helpful teachers and contributers, @SweetLeafGrow , @steamroller , @CannaGranny , @Moe.Red , @Aqua Man , @Anthem just to name a few!!!

The plan is, (MURPHY, GO AWAY!!!,) to have 2, 4x4 tents growing out these babies. One, the tall tent, will be RDWC hydro and I'll be using Jack's 321 formula and feed schedule along with many tips and loads of guidance from my teachers. Depending on the M to F ratio I get when I can sex them, I'll devide them into hydro and supersoil evenly. No, this isn't any sort of contest between earth and hydro. The only compitition will be between me and myself trying to have a successful 1st hydro grow. The supersoil (just add water system, JAWS for short) is what I know best and will be my back-up, just in case I do something catastrophicly stupid.
My legal limit here in Colorado is 12 plants, 6 in bloom, so with that in mind.......

The tents are all setup, the daytime temps are getting warm enough, so last night it was time to wet some 12 seeds.

FAST FORWARD TO May, 12th, today was transplant day.
I took 4 cutting from the female in soil, "Mother Earth" and the other 3 cuttings about 2 weeks later from the 2nd female I got from those seeds. She's in my first RDWC, "Water Weed".

I have several questions about the 2 phenos and what differances I see in their mothers. Are those differances from genetics or enviroment? One sure way to tell is to do another grow journal of both pheno's in the same growing medium and enviroment. So welcome to Haze x NL#2 (v2.0). ;)

In the pictures below, the 4 large plants are all from my 'Mother Earth' pheno. The 3 small ones are from 'Water Weed'. I hope you enjoy following along for the ride. It's always fun, interesting and I always seem to learn something new, I just wish it was always something good, LOL. :geek:

Todd suggested I grow one in Lush. He was telling me all about how great the stuff is. I couldn't burst his bubble by telling him I already knew how great the soil is, but I'm happy to do a(nother) side by side with 3 differant soils 🙃. The L is the Lush, the B is The Bomb and the R is my first try at recycling some of my Bomb soil. Those are in the 5 gal fabric pots.

Oh yes, almost forgot to mention that the 2 plants in Bomb are tripods. They grow leaves from the crown in sets of 3, so I don't want to top those 2 , but we'll see.

Mother Earth on the left, Water Weed on the right. Day 28ish in 12/12

Things are changing in the garden. Yesterday I swapped out my SF2000 light and put my SF4000 in. I took the 3 small plants and put them back under the SF2000 in the sapre bedroom closet. Good grief, I'm back to closet grows, again! :geek:
Why? If I wait for the small one, the large ones will outgrow their containers and food supply, so, the 4 large ones will be having the lights out early tonight, going to 12/12. The smaller ones will enjoy late night lighting for a few more weeks in veg in the closet. That works!!!!

I also topped the 2 plants I refer to as tripods. All the secondary branches are normal, but the tops were continuing to grow in triplicate. See the pictures.
I have the 2 tops and if anyone want's to play with 'tripod' genetics, speak up or they go into the trash on Thursday. I like keeping tops as a table garnishment for a few days, LOL! Something I learned from dining at Positronics. 🙃

Good grief, have things grown amd changed in the past 5 days.
I started my LST and Edward Sissorhand got ahold of them, . That said, they have recovered from the topping and lowers trimming eack one got. I also flipped the larger 4 from the pheno I call Mother Earth to 12/12 on Thursday. So without any more chat, here are pictures of Mother Earth from today, 5 weeks and 2 days into 12/12, and her 4 clones.

...and an overhead of one of the plants that grew on the main stem by 3's..... Weird!!!
IMG_20230521_142740.jpg IMG_20230521_142756.jpg

As for the clones from the Water Weed pheno, they were also topped and the 2 tallest were also tied down this morning. I'm thinking that with these gals, I'll just flower the 2 tallest plants. No rush to veg them out, so I can take a few extra days to train them to each take up half the tent. Just like their mother and sister are splitting a tent. Anyway, here they are, hidden in my closet. Geeezzzz......

First up is a close-up on mom at about 5+ weeks. No red hairs yet, so she's gonna be awhile before harvest.

and her clones.

Guess I should do an update, eeh! It;s been 9 days since I started their LST and I transplanted into supersoil Sunday.

flippin pheno, Water weed, did a reversal of some sort. I just call it dinasaur feet. All 3 clones went back to single finger leaves and back to 3's and now 5 finger. Weird! and mom has extra fingers on some of her top cola leaves. I'll post a pict of that weirdness at the bottom.
...and today....
IMG_20230530_105324.jpg

and this leaf on mom has an extra 4 fingers in the middle. Hmmmm... this is fun. (y) 👨‍🌾
IMG_20230530_110217.jpg

Yep, mom is from a reg seed from Todd over at Authentic Genetics. I got 2 gals.
Here is that thread, well, at least from when I got kicked off the Farm.....LOL!!!!

following along!

I have purest indica via seattle greg/AG that's been burning a hole thru my brain wanting me to pop them soon. SG moved to the big island and lives next to one of my best friends from the island, so it's been quite a trip hearing the old stories from him.
Friend of my is on Bainbridge working gardens and doing some landscaping. Beautiful spot, no doubt.

Good grief, time flies when you're having fun. :geek: 👨‍🌾

Time for some catch-up. For anyone following this grow journal, you might want to take a peek at the grow journal I made of their parents, here.
Mother Earth was harvested yesterday and the 3 clones of Water Weed pheno were put into bloom in the tent.

Couple dayse ago, I gave the Water Weed phenos a topping to level out the canopy before popping them into bloom. So here are pictures from 2 days ago of their 'hair cuts'. 1/2 way done and finished. Note the cup with the trimmings in the lower left???? Yes, I kept 2 cuts I'm rooting up.

and today, in the closet.... hahahaha, Mother Earth and she smells sooooo sweet!!!! I'll get to pictures of her clones farther down this post.

And in the bloom tent, with only about 60 days seperating them, Water Weed and her 3 offspring. More pictures of mother Water Weed buds over on the other thread linked to earlier in this post.

Wow, almost 2 weeks since I checked in with a report. Both tents are growing lushly. The shorter tent's 4 cuts hit 6 weeks today, so I'll put up pictures from last week and this week to catch up. I have been feeding these plants regularly with Age Old Bloom and the differance from their mother (Mother Earth pheno) at this stage is already very noticable. These are alot greener and fuller. They even appear to have a heavier coat of trichomes. o_O

The 3 cuts in the tall tent are 3 weeks behind and just hit 3 weeks of 12/12 today. They also got their first feed of Bloom today They are from the WaterWeed pheno I got.

Last week / This week

Today in the garden it was time to get the 3 water pheno gals in their straight jackets. This old farmer calls it scaffolding 👨‍🌾, but @CannaGranny 🍁👵might insist on trellising! You can call it most anything you like, but just not SCROG'ing. :geek:

I use 4 poles per plant. You can use the bamboo ones at the big box stores, or I found it cheaper to use 3/8" x 4' dowel rods at home depot for $.96 each, so 6 is a buck cheaper. Jusr sayin.....fyi. I put the poles into the pots so they form the frame for the plants growing space. This grow has 3 plants in a 4x4, so something has to give. For this grow, rather than a square I made rectangles with the poles. THen I use my green tie wire to make 2 loops around the plant, looping each branch that needs supporting and around the pole to secure a side. I make a lower loop, about 12" below the top buds and another loop about 6-8" above the first loop. Having 2 secure points on the branch keeps it in place and helps avoid heavy bud flop later on.

So here are some before, during, trimmed from, scaffolding with green wire, bla bla....
I hope you find it informative and another way to control your plants. N2

Yesterday............. Today.......................................

Wow! look at what regular feeding grow looks like next to a pure (almost, I fed some at the end) supersoil, just add water grow.
Here are this weeks pictures of both the E (soil grown pheno) and the W (water grown pheno). I pulled a picture of Mother E at 7 weeks, 49 days into bloom. What a differance. o_O She was VERY yellow and in serious senescence in her 5 gal pot. Her offspring clones are all still a deep green without any signs of senescence. I guess the lesson here is that for the beginner, a water only supersoil grow will give a good result, especially if the plant is smaller or the pot bigger so it doesn't run completely out of nutes.

Mom at 49 days.IMG_20230601_114223 (1).jpg clones at 49 days. IMG_20230629_083437.jpg

and a few pictures of E's sister, W. These clones are 3 weeks behind the E clones, so they are at 28 days, 4 weeks today in bloom.

In the fourth picture it looks like a couple plants sparked up a blunt 🤣

56 days and counting. M.E. pheno was harvested at 56 days. Her clones will make at least another week, I'm thinking more like 2 weeks and maybe a couple days past that. I'm in no hurry get these out, like I was their mother. She was fading fast at 8 weeks and I needed the room for the W.W. pheno clones. Note, the WW clones in the tall tent are almost a foot talled than their sister clones from ME. That's my fault for not figuring out my timing better. Oh well, it's all good!!!
So here they are, ME pheno clones at 56 days and WW pheno clones at day 35 of 12/12.

It looks like they're gonna pack on some size and weight with all those pistils. Your killing it man, can't wait to see how they finish this round without having to chop early. Keep it up!

On another note, one of my ME (mother earth) pheno's is acting up. It's the one in my recycled soil and when I first saw the tip yellowing, I just figured it was from a deficiency in that recycled soil. This late into the grow, that's kinda normal. Now, I'm not so sure that's the only reason. I started seeing the same yellowing on a 2nd cola 2 days ago and begin investigating closer. Turns out it is only on the side of the flower facing the lamp, not on the shaded side. Hmmm. Now I'm thinking a combo of a deficiency compounded by the light intensity. The yellowing buds are in some of the brightest points in the tent and the other buds on that plant that are in less intense light near the tent walls are not showing any of the yellowing signs. I rotated the plant 180* today to see if the yellowing rotates as well??? 👨‍🌾
The other 3 plants are in fresh soil and don't show any of the yellowing in their top buds. Some of those buds are in even slightly more intense light than the buds that are yellowing, so..... Everything else has been the same throughout the grow, water, nutes, cal-mag, light, bla bla.

What do you think? am I looking in the right direction to figure out what's causing it???
here is the 'sunny' side with the yellowing tips of the first to show it...
IMG_20230706_110025.jpg

and here is it's shaded side. Best picture I could get, shooting into the light. No yellowing.
IMG_20230706_110131.jpg

and the most recent yellowing on the 2nd top, same plant, sunny side.....
IMG_20230706_110158.jpg

and it's back /shaded side. No yellowing. So the light is compounding the problem? but what deficiency is causing it???
IMG_20230706_110239.jpg

Time to begin closing this grow journal. I added a UVB lamp from Migro for the last 6 days of bloom fo the Mother Earth clones. I honestly didn't see any change, good or bad, and had it on for 1.5 hrs the first 3 days and 2 hrs the last 3. I am continuing to use it over the Water Weed pheno's for the last 3 weeks of their bloom. I harvested the 4 ME pheno clones on Mon and Tue, the 17th and 18th. Those were days 67 and 68 in 12/12 and they were ready, IMHO!
So, I thought I'd post one of my harvesting/manicuring ways of doing things. To be honest here, this looks like some delicious smoking flower. My problem is that I don't "smoke" any more, so I will only bee keeping what I'll vape in my Plenty and be gifting the rest. OK, enough babbling, here are pictures of the processes I used, hand trim and machine.
Finished numbers FTR are:
373 gr - tops (hand trimmed)
365 gr - mids (machine trimmed)
738 gr - total flower

102 gr - trim from machine
840 gr - total usable material from a SF 4000, 450w lamp. I am one happy farmer! 👨‍🌾 ;) :geek:

Nice work, just coming off an 11 plant run myself. Now I am lost with just an 8 plant run,all in Veg. Wierd's me out not to have flowering plants in my tents, Cheers, SSgrower

I supose it's time for another update on the WW pheno clones, 3 weeks behind the ME pheno clones I harvested last week. I added the Migro UVB lamp on the 19th and ran it the first 3 days at 1.5 hours. Since the 23rd it's been running 2 hours a day. The 3 plants are all in differant soil, Roots Organics Lush, Paonia Soil The Bomb 50/50 and recycled Bomb 50/50. The clone in the recycled soil is in a plastic pot while the other 2 are in fabric pots. Yes, I expected somewhat differing results and that's exactly what I got. Today they were 59 days 12/12.
In short, the recycle has 'old age spots' on the upper fan leaves, LOL! They get visably worse every day now. The Bomb has the lighest green leaves, almost a lime green and the Lush, it had an issue about a month ago with something being to hot and causing leaf burn. WEIRD!
Anyway, to the pictures.

Recycled Bomb 50/50 soil in plastic pot.

IMG_20230730_182852.jpg

The Lush and her burns. All received water and nutes from the same bucket, so go figure?
IMG_20230730_183045.jpg

and last is the Bomb 50/50. She just isn't as green as either of the other 2. Oh well, it's all good!!! 👨‍🌾 :geek:(y)
IMG_20230730_183139.jpg

...and all 3 in the tent.IMG_20230730_183214.jpg

How did these end up being smoke wise? Find anything worthy of keeping around for more runs or possibly hunting more?
