Hello fellow BudBuilders. This journal will catalog my run towards a fourth harvest. This will be my first attempt at running multiple strains, so here's to hoping both strains have similar needs and behave accordingly 🤞

For this run, I'll be sprouting some Blue Dream and some Granddaddy Purp beans from Redbeard's genetics.
1000011354.jpg

Let's get down to it

Equipment:
SpiderFarmer 5x5 tent
UnderCurrent 8 gallon 4-site system
CLW SolarSystem 1100 grow light
ACI Controller 69 pro
ACI 6" exhaust fan with refillable carbon filter
ACI 6" inline fan for intake from lung room
ACI CloudForge T7 humidifier
Vornado 1500w space heater
2x ACI CloudRay oscillating fans
2x BlueLab ph/ppm monitors
AquaticLife 4 stage RO/DI system
Active Aqua 1/10hp chiller
Alita 15 lpm air pump
Root Riot grow plugs

Nutrients:
Athena's Blended line
General Hydroponics RapidRooter
Plant Success Orca Liquid Mycorrhizae
Mr. Fulvic organic Fulvic Acid
0ppm RO/DI water

-------

I dropped some beans into some grow plugs a few days ago and, in only 2 days, 2 of the 3 GDP's have sprouted. One of the Blue Dream seeds popped up this morning. They're in an AC Infinity dome/light kit. Once they're healthy and established, I'll move them into 4" netpots with hydroton. This time, I bought some super small hydroton. Nearly small enough to fit through the netpot openings. They'll grow there, in the same dome, until I've chosen 4 winners. After that, into the system they go.

I was lucky enough to get a sample of Athena's Blended line sent to me for free. I went with Lotus' dry nutes last run, but this run will be back to using liquid nutes. $800ish value FO FREEEE

First out of the plugs... GDP
1000011355.jpg

One of the Blue Dream seeds was trying to push through this morning and hopefully the rest follow suit shortly.

I'll be doing my best to build these 4 plants into 8 cola mainlines following a technique on here by @Jonnyboi84. I love what I've seen from his manifolds and expect to have similar results. I learned a bit from my last run, which I also tried to mainline, but I'll be sticking with my usual mentality of "Wingin' It".

Last grow, I ended up chopping the top off of my tent and I don't plan on fixing it. I'll just extend the walls to my basement ceiling with some thin bubble insulation to keep the environment under control. This gives me a foot or so of extra headroom. Hopefully it's not needed, but the tent was due for repairs nonetheless, might as well "upgrade". I'm hoping this will be my last run in a tent as I plan to build out a room (or two) specifically for plants. Perpetual grows are coming soon.

Thanks for popping in. Feel free to ask some questions and/or dish out some advice. I'm pretty receptive and open to criticism. Wish me luck, folks.

As always,
✌️ & 💚

Man i really hope that Athena works as well as it has been working for me.

I've been running 5-6ml per gallon and my plants are so happy!!
I mean just look at these babies!

Happy right to the floor!

Will definitely be following along on this one man.

Sounds good bro, I traded for some blue dream recently so I'm curious about the size, I've read it can a big plant and also that it doesn't stretch much so I want to see what happens here?

@GoodShit97 Aye they're looking lush, very nice 👍

I’m looking forward to this grow, both are favorite strains/cultivars of mine.

Good luck!

I’ve done one indoor grow and one outdoor grow with Super Blue Dream (a little additional super silver haze genetics, but very similar). It’s got a great aroma and flavor no matter where it grows!

I have a feeling these questions are super noobish, but I'll ask anyway, lol: Are you running two inline fans? One up top and one at the bottom? Maybe the fan crashed and that's what you meant about being "happy to the floor"?

The bottom fan is an intake fan.
I run the same kind up top for an exhaust too.

If you hadn't shared that this was your fourth grow, I'd have guessed you had far more under your belt. I'll wish you luck, but don't expect you'll need it. I'm looking forward to following another successful grow!
Thanks Bob. I had a ton of help with my first grow. Almost had my hand held the whole way.

I've read it can a big plant and also that it doesn't stretch much so I want to see what happens here?
I plan on only vegging for a month or so, so they may not get terribly large. I knew an old dude growing years ago and he had some FIRE blue dream. I hope I can get close to that quality.

I’m looking forward to this grow, both are favorite strains/cultivars of mine.

Good luck!
Hell yeah man. Stay tuned!

If I had GDP, it was years ago and I can't recall, but Blue Dream has been great every time I tried it.

Hope this grow goes easy for you so you can your room/s up~!
Game changer IMO to have dedicated hard walls with one purpose, although many here have proven they are not needed.
Good idea on 'short' veg after last plant huh?;)

Thanks for the explanation @GoodShit97! I just have a 2X4 that I've only used as a dry tent, so far. The fan sucks the sides of the tent in, if I don't have the vents open at the bottom. Are two fans only needed for larger tents? Or, should I be ordering a second fan before taking a stab at an indoor grow in the 2X4?

Sorry about hijacking your thread @GrumpAzz

I use the intake to make my tent balloon. Otherwise it sucks in on itself and I don't like it, also helps bring in more fresh air

so is your new environment any different from what you were used to? any cooler or more humid at all?

thats awesome you'll get even more headroom now!!

.

i shouldn't be far behind ya man, dropped seeds last night for a hydro grow!!!

what are you thinking on spectrum? stay the same? i think i'm gonna do even colors again.. 5-5-5 with winter on its way i think i could use the extra watts in heat!

I only vegged 5 weeks last run. Those freaks just never stopped stretching. 7 weeks into 12/12 and they were still headed up. Wild.

Sorry about hijacking your thread
You're good dude. Not a worry in the world.

so is your new environment any different from what you were used to? any cooler or more humid at all?
Should be much cooler in the basement. There's already a dehuey in there that keeps it around 30-35%

i shouldn't be far behind ya man, dropped seeds last night for a hydro grow!!!
Hell Yes. MORE WATER!!

CLW's spectrum worked pretty good. Nice and frosty with good growth. I'll probably stick with that.

damn 35% thats awesome!!!! i'd struggle to keep mine that low in summer. i've also never had one that is really spec'd for my size and conditions.. the last couple i've used over the past twenty years i've been given for free and never complained. in the hottest summer i can get it down to 50%. in the winter it's a different story, i require a humidifier because when it's frozen out and the forced hot air furnace runs it gets in the teens percentile in my basement. my one meter just read LL and that one says it goes down to 14%!!!

i embrace the cooler temps down in the basement and take the rh swing as a trade off.

been meaning to ask a hydro guru, at what low water temps should i start thinking about adding a heater? i'm at like 67° right now. i'll end up getting in the 50's if i go unchecked throughout the winter.

Hell Yes. MORE WATER!!

🙃 :) 🙃 :) gots to do it... it was super fun, easy to manage, gots lots of nutes left so it won't cost me anything, and did i ever mention how easy on the back muscles hydro growing is?!?!? for real man, a super light flexzilla hose is way better to pick up than a bag of soil is. and you never pick up soil just once EVER!!! i'll pick up the same cu² of soil five to seven times per grow!!! i never once picked up any water!!!!!

i think i'd like to invest in another rez top off transfer pump though, right now i'm barrowing the pump from my moonshine still and that's not gonna fly coming up here in month or so... i should replace the still pump as this one is a little to powerful for that but is perfect for the hydro grow!!!

speaking of more water, we could use some.. been over 30 days since we had rain!!! perfect bon fire temps and i can't light up nothin!!!!

CLW's spectrum worked pretty good. Nice and frosty with good growth. I'll probably stick with that.

i hear ya so much on this... if it ain't broke!!!! but you know me by now i can't leave my paws off of anything!!!!!!!

I don't have anything set up but the dehuey reads 30 in the middle of the basement right by the sump pump. It's been getting drier and drier every year. The mid-atlantic current shifting east or some shit..

been meaning to ask a hydro guru, at what low water temps should i start thinking about adding a heater? i'm at like 67° right now. i'll end up getting in the 50's if i go unchecked throughout the winter.
I think 68 is where O2 is the highest but, at those temps, you're probably looking at a bit slower growth. You may also want to think about going sterile. Beneficial bacteria may struggle to colonize. Buuut... I'm only half sure and wouldn't quite go as far as "guru" 🤣

are you running your pump in the resevoir or inline? Running it submerged might help a little with temps, but I wouldn't want to go any lower than 65.

This is so cool. Never thought about that. People lifting bags all the time, moving plants and checking dryness... score one more for hydro

I plumbed mine accordingly and plan to do the same this round. A complicated series of valves allowed me to circulate the res, quick fill from the top-off, or dump either res to the drain. I also had a transfer pump in my RO tank that had a faucet in the grow room and also filled up the top-off.

speaking of more water, we could use some.. been over 30 days since we had rain!!! perfect bon fire temps and i can't light up nothin!!!!
We just got an inch or so the other night. It was much needed.

This your new grow room you was talking about moving? Been out the loop
Yeah we just got a place with a full basement and half of it is mine. I got big plans. Small rooms, big plans. Three rooms. Water/lung room, veg room and a flower room. Perpetual and potentially cloning mothers.

Hell yea tho, 2 classics can't go wrong with em imo
Yeah it'll be cool to step back from the hype strains for grow or so.

the hell you ain't!!! four grows now?!?! it's why i specifically asked you!!!! :D

it's inline, outside the rez.

i knew it would be an issue and Aqua Man and i have even discussed it before so me needing a small aquarium heater was always planned from the beginning. i already have the heater i just wasn't 100% on what was too cold. i want to check my meter for temp calibration before i mess with anything though.

it's a big deal actually. especially for people with mobility issues or handicapped situations it could be a game changer if plumbed properly. and yes plumbing failures can happen but could be totally protected with drip pans with a drain and other safeties if needed.

no matter how you grow soil you almost always have to lift it some way. i had the turntable in my room which made it nice to just rotate the plant to front and center but still had to lift it out and lift in a container of soil for the new plants.

it's dirty too, i try and be careful but i'm always making a mess and spilling some soil on the floor. water evaporates when i spill it!

you get gnats in soil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i could go on... i could also name just as many on why soil is better than hydro too... :)

have you given any thought to a rain collector versus your RO water filter?

the rain missed us tonight maybe next weekend according to the guessers.

Haha four grows is nothing compared to some of these guys, but I have learned a lot over the last year and a half.

Word. Yeah 50 is too low 🤣
I think Moe or Aqua has mentioned the sweetspot to be somewhere around 69-71. I usually run 72.

i could go on... i could also name just as many on why soil is better than hydro too... :)
I'm sure. There are tradeoffs to everything. It's very unlikely that I'll ever grow in soil though, unless keeping mothers is a no-go in hydro. @moe.red or @Aqua Man, what are your thoughts on that? A hydro setup for mothers? I'd like to get to that point eventually, a four or so strain rotation by cloning mom's.

have you given any thought to a rain collector versus your RO water filter?
Man I just don't think we get enough water around here. I still haven't tested my water with my meters, though. It was tested for safety and consumption, so I need to look at those numbers again. I may be able to run off of our well. You'd plumb that in before the softener, right?

For sure. That saves on the life of the RO membrane, but what about well water? I assume it's the same way? Before the softener?
You don't want to use the softened water for plants IMO.
You may already have hose bibs that are located before the softener.

So my line comes straight out of the wall into the resin tank. Then through the softener and into the pressure tank. No valves or spickets before the resin tank.

Do I need to be before the resin also?

Ok.. so looking into it a little more, I'm seeing that the resin tank pulls out minerals like calcium and magnesium and replaces them with sodium ions. So, with that info, i should test my water before the resin tank as well.

I'll have to look at my plumbing a little closer. My pump is controlled by my pressure tank, so I'd have to set up a way for the well to kick on with a seperate switching device.

It may just be easier to hook up my RO and continue with my 0ppm feedwater to the plants. That will also keep my current methods of nutrient dosing the same. I'll always know what I put in the system.

So, @Stoneyluv, I'll more than likely just continue to use my 0ppm RO/DI water.

Wow go! I got seeds for the October give away address? SS grower

since you didn't install your system it's a great idea to have your water tested. just to know!

rained some last night.. not sure how much but everything was wet this morning. :D
We had the water tested and it passed and is safe to drink, but the results were a little confusing. They didn't use ppm and I haven't done the conversions.
1000011370.jpg
1000011372.jpg

Definitely RO before the softener
I've read and heard the opposite. The hard water is supposedly harder on the RO membrane affecting it's lifespan so it's recommended to be installed after a softener.

I realize this is AI but this is what I'm being told when I Google "RO before or after softener"
1000011368.jpg

Did GrumpAzz say build a room out for plants

I'd be sooooo jelly
Not just ONE room. Hopefully THREE. A water/lung room, a veg room and a flower room. I'm so pumped to finally have the space in what I'm considering my forever home.
