Let's do it together bro, about to cut in a week and try my hand at ice hash in the next month i think
Hey, I was kinda hoping to do it this weekend, I froze my weed yesterday, we have to go out today and tomorrow i was going to giver a wash. I'll take pics as I go. One thing I missed was what he squished his washings on to get the water out of it. Cheese cloth is too porous and the washings will stick to it. Parchment /wax paper won't absorb moisture. I'll have to rewatch and see what he used....unless you know. I know I've not done that in the past to remove as much water as possible.

I thought it was cheese cloth, but I'll have to rewatch when I'm finally ready to do it. I'm not sure if everyone does this but i think The following step of refreezing at the end, and then getting it to a powder by a sieve or microplane to do the final dry will eliminate any chance of mold contamination

I bought 3 new 5 gal buckets yesterday my old ones are so dirty they're impossible to clean. I'm going to ice hash my hermied sht one of these days soon. I could probably make a tumbler, my only concern is having a motor that could turn the drum slow enough. I have some old motors from old band saws, and a scroll saw but they are single speed, too big and far to fast. I'm just making excuses, If I really wanted to make one I'd just buy the motor and build my own. Its not rocket science is it,

After writing this I started looking for variable speed controllers, wire mesh, bearings....Doable but the $150 tumbler would be cheaper....a good project if I was more energetic. I gotta get my ass moving. I just sit and smoke, play chess, play with the cats, smoke, walk a cat, smoke, chess, eat, smoke,Dr appointment, smoke,ah its Margarita time, smoke,cats,sleep...repeat
I was going to build one, thought I had most of the parts. Stoney said I needed a good size can to use as a drum. Also my motor was underpowered. It looked like I could build one for about $200 but hard to find things in Canada. So when I saw the deal for a new one was $380 I jumped on it.

We use the brown parchment paper. Don’t use wax paper.

If the parchment paper get wet/damp it will deform and can rip.

My buds aren’t washed first. I use a jar full of boiling water as a rolling pin to flatten and decarb the kief in the parchment paper. Then I put it in the freezer for 15 minutes. I fold up the hash into a smaller square and repeat once or twice more.

"My buds aren’t washed first." ........I was meaning the wet hash is what should have as much water removed as possible. The video had the guy squash it on some kind of material that removed water but the hash didn't stick to it when done. I've rolled mine into Temple Balls with hot water in wine bottles. I bought 2 not for the wine but the bottle was a perfect shape to use as a rolling pin. I have them stashed here somewhere. The wine was meh but nice bottles.

I’ve never actually made bubble hash. I just used the one or two bags to shake the kief out after putting the bag in the freezer full of trim.

I’ve used two or three different Bicks pickle jars. Just need to make sure the lids on tight.IMG_6433.jpeg

I made burn proof gloves by putting surgical gloves over winter ones. Nylon or wool will work. Heat eventually gets through but it takes a while and cools quickly when removed from heat.IMG_6434.jpeg

Once I squish it flat I put the parchment paper into the freezer for 5-15 minutes. Then take it out and get the hash off quickly. Fold it squarely and put it back into the parchment paper to repeat the process for a total of three times.

Haven’t made a temple ball unless you count small ones from finger hash after trimming. 🤣

Hope you make a big one over the weekend. Can’t wait to see your pics on the process!👍🍀

Hey, ya neat idea with the gloves. I used oven mitts and they were awkward to use. I've gone as far as putting my bags in the bucket and my weed is frozen. I just need the ice. I have 3 -1/4lb bags full of material only 2 fit in my fridge freezer, all rough trimmed buds loaded with seeds.

That's a different method from what I did. I placed my bubble hash between folded parchment paper. Not near so the fold the fold doesn't get any gummy shit in it and roll it with the hot water bottle at 175f -195 f, roll flat open, gather into a ball roll flat in the parchment paper again and repeat 10 -15 -20 times until the ball is all shiny, then store like weed.

I bought 2 bottles of wine for the procedure. After drinking them I filled with water and kept on the stove in a double boiler around 200f, I'd use 1 for a bit then swap them out to keep hot . I made a mess the first time learning and lost a lot in the messy process sticking to parchment paper, cheese cloth and everything else. 2nd try went a bit better. I should haver mastered this time eh???...lol...

Fkin cold here this am, 7C I had Dusky sleeping on me again last night, first time in months since he needed the warmth. Nice day now but brrrr 7c with the windows open is a chilly start

That’s why I made these. Better grip and much more flexibility. I was worried I’d shoot the pickle jar across the room with the oven mitts when I push down hard. 🤣

Currently I put trim or flower in large freezer bags. Squeeze out any extra air and zip closed. When I’m ready I dump a bag or two in the bin/drum and start it spinning.

Not so different. I collect the kief and brush it into a pre folded parchment paper envelope. IMG_6438.jpegIMG_6439.jpeg
I tap it all down to the bottom and place it on the cutting board. I boil water in the kettle and fill the Bicks pickle jar. (I usually keep boiling the same water.)

Next I start rolling the jar across the parchment paper. Jar lid is beside/over the kitchen sink in case it pops off. (I fill it sitting in the sink too.) I try not to roll from top to bottom of the envelope as it will occasionally burst the end. So side to side is best. Once really melted I stop and put in the freezer for a bit to make it easy to take off the paper. I fold it a few times and flatten it out again. Usually three times is good. Then it goes in my container for later use.

I never have more than enough to cover the cutting board. The jar is the perfect size for me to man handle. Only thing I have to watch for is keeping everything dry so as not to rip the paper. The jar stays hot enough for me to do this three times in about 45 minutes, maybe an hour. I don’t really time it.

When I saw it sticking to the paper all the time. I started putting it in the fridge freezer for 5 minutes. Then it peels off like candy. Sometimes bits still stick so I use the hash that came off to dab at the chunks still stuck. 98% comes right off stuck to the hash.

It was colder last night with the windows open but not that cold. Sitting around 22* in the shade at 11:00am.

Good day to get out in the yard and do some work. I’ll have to smoke on it. 🤣

I got my first wash done and its sitting waiting now for the second wash. I ran out of ice already 2 bags $4.99 each just covered my weed. I'll run out again for another bag or 2....at another store. I only used 2 of the 3 bags of weed.Bubble 1st wash sept 21.JPGBubble bucket sept 21.JPGBubble sept 21.JPGBubble wash 3.JPG

Wash 2, I'll do another wash tomorrow,. I'm out of Ice but I got as much off run 2 as run 1 so I'll do 3 maybe 4. I'll freeze my mash tonight then get ice and do it all over again.Bubble wash 2.JPG

Looks a little messy. Also looks much greener than how I do it. What does the final product look like?

Don’t some use a paint mixer on a drill?

IMG_6260.jpeg

These are all different plants and a few different strains. All collected from either shaking in the trim bin like a gold pan or freezing and shaking.

The biggest one is new from the tumbler using old freezer trim in a sandwich bag from two harvests back. Much better than just shaking.

The darkest chunk is from Haunted Banana. The rest is either mixed or Strawberry Lemonade or Purple Diesel.

I read or saw a video where they said not to use high speed stirring tools and to go slowly. I just used a piece of dowel to stir. Ya mine is darker on the last micro filter than expected but I'll be mashing it all together anyways. I think I'll be able to recover quite a bit more today if my last wash is an indication of what's available. I still have a full bag to do, maybe next weekend if I can find a cheaper source of ice. I'll need 2 more bags today and 4 more for the next go at $5/bag at the closest local store is too much MFkers its just real cold water, shouldn't be $5/bag

Oh no they are still finishing lol, one still has some white pistols, but this is 100% the last week
Likely won't be able to do the washing for another few weeks, going to freeze them fresh in vacuum seal bags to let me get to it when i can.

Doing a big yearly hike this weekend, called old rag, around 1000 people go on the weekends, they limit the number for safety. They check a list to make sure everyone makes it down.
Then i have a big list of car upgrades to do Sunday i hope i have time to get to between homework.

Have parts to do the cold air intake and oil catch can, going to buy a bigger intercooler and down pipe this week on payday, and still have some more things on my list, like wet sanding the paint bubbles on the spoiler then wrapping it in vinyl, and maybe do the same vinyl on chrome trim. I love working on The car 😂 and getting bicycle rides in when i can

You know you can control the drill speed, but do what works for you. I just got tired of doing it manually. The rolling and actual making of the hash only takes a few minutes. It’s the kief collection that took forever for us.

My bad. Thought you meant you and Pipe were at the same stage and ready to go.

I just prefer dry collection over wet. Seems easier to use a tumbler and just roll a hot bottle over the kief. 🤷‍♂️

I get my ice from the local bar this summer big bags 3 for 5 dollars

You know you can control the drill speed, but do what works for you. I just got tired of doing it manually. The rolling and actual making of the hash only takes a few minutes. It’s the kief collection that took forever for us.
I tried that, but it stalls with too much weight to push or it goes too fast. I even made a spatula to fit in my 1/2" drill but ended up just using it & not the drill.

My weed mash was frozen almost solid this am so I broke it up by smashing it with the dowel as best I could then added another bag full of weed. its sitting as I roll another. With all the bashing I decided to work my mash and ice in the bucket without the bags, I'll pour through the bags after I'm finished most of the stirring then stir for a while before I collect the hash.

I never thought about that. When we ran the store in the summer 1 of the bars supplied us with Ice if I filled them myself at a much better price but the guy sold the bar to another guy and hes jacked up prices and tried to go fancy so we've avoided it the last few years. I could ask though. I went to another store this am $4/bag....bought 2 only 1 more small store close by I'll try them next if I need more.

I've already done that before, it was kinda cool!!

I'm going down another hole this time lol

No dry, no cure, and i can vacuum seal and freeze it for when I'm ready fits my zero free time schedule lol

I've made 6 washes through my Bubble bags and could probably do another but I'm done. After my 2nd wash I got the brainy Idea to freeze the mash overnight...so I did.....not such a good idea...it froze solid some didn't thaw until wash 5. I was bashing large chunks in my hand with my dowel. Now I have a lightly swollen left hand.

I made 2 washes with my first 2 bags of weed & 2 bags of ice then added another bag the next morning with my frozen block and 2 more bags of ice and did 2 washes. I didn't refreeze overnight. Next am I added 2 more bags of Ice and made 2 more washes. From what I got off my last run I know there's more to be had but I'm done. 6 washes is enough.1st.JPG2nd run.JPG3 bags.JPG3rd.JPGBubble 1st wash sept 21.JPGBubble bucket sept 21.JPGBubble sept 21.JPGBubble wash 1all.JPGBubble wash 2.JPGday 3 .JPGday 3 last.JPGfroxe block.JPG

Is that all the hash collected on the screen? Maybe 7 grams once dry? Hard for me to judge by the pic.

You’re the first person I’ve seen do this method all the way through. Curious how much more you get compared to dry tumbling.

Other than the lotus method or on a paper bag on a heater I’m not sure how you can get rid of the excess moister. Make it one large piece like a chocolate bar and put it in a tub of rice like a wet cell phone?

Can’t wait to see how this plays out. 👊🤞

The way i saw to get rid of moisture is to then freeze the bubble hash, then break into powder the next day using a sieve or microplane, then dry it as powder

What was the yield on that??

Looks like the same bags i got 👍, might chop tonight and freeze all the fresh stuff, did you do it all fresh or dried?

Looks like hard work for sure, thanks for posting pics!!

Ya dry as a powder at 54f and 35% in a dedicated drying room....lol...google recommended. ...like I can get that anywhere at any time. Next is a fridge in a pizza box for a week...without an odors....ya sure I can take our only fridge for a week.....not likely.....another option is a Mini Fridge with a freezer.....I'm looking , I found one in Halifax new in the box $100 if its still around tomorrow I can go get it. ......until then it stays frozen

Not all that bad to churn in 1-2 min intervals The dowel worked great, I'd have to reach in and grab the stuff on the bottom every once and a while as the small stuff floats down and Ice works its way up. Mix 10 -15 min then clean the bags and do it again. I used 3 buckets one to hold the mash after each run then 1, I could lift after the water ran through and work it in another clean bucket, catch the drips in and add them to the next bag.

No idea what yield is, I'll gather it all together and take a pic. All was well dried, 2 bags frozen one I added the next day was not frozen.

Yeah those drying temps are hard to get for sure

I'm wondering if this little wine chiller i have will do the trick, i think gets around those temps, but the low humidity part is hard to get for sure, wait another month and that will be the outside temp/humidity lol

I'm going out today and I'm going to try and make a deal on one of these small 3,2cu/ft fridges, asking $100...I'd like it for $751758810624085.png
And it has to fit in my hatchback somehow....should fit but they like to be standing upright...might be iffy...it'll tilt...lol

Ya, I went out early and bought it. They only had 2 in the isle when we were there yesterday and I should have bought it then but I needed google to tell me it has a freezer and its not a lemon with inherent issues. I had to lay it almost flat to get it into my car and after reading the manual it says never tip over 45* or it may leak through the seals. I let it stand for the day before I turn it on tomorrow

Yes, and Ice for Margarita's....that's my drink of the day now. I'll run out later and get a couple of 12" clean pizza boxes....The show must go on... I had been looking used online and after the guy was not home mfker I thought fk it I'll buy new. Then we went to Walmart and they had this one marked down from $179 to $99. Its still for sale online at Walmart at $179 so I think I got a deal just when I was looking for one.

That’s like how I got my tumbler. Got lucky and good timing. She doesn’t charge me taxes if I pay cash too. 👊

Wife and I like this. We used to blend it with ice but now skip the ice half the time. 🤣IMG_6549.jpeg

Son won this at work last night. I’m thinking margarita station. Mix tequila and juice and pour in water to get filtered. Then just need a glass full of ice. 👊😝IMG_6550.jpeg

We use the Costco with filter kit, Change about once a month. Just for coffee really, I don't drink much water, lots of fruit and gallons of coffee. Our well water has manganese bits in it, it clogs our filters regularly, its why our washer went down. Its not harmful its like black sand we get floating through if we don't filter it out. Our water taste great, we're very lucky there's a lot of Iron, sulpher and arsenic locally, some taps pour out rusty water without expensive filter systems hooked up. We're down about 250 ft, waters always cold and fresh with sandy bits...lol

My sister used to live in our basement and had a Brita attachment on her kitchen sink. IDKW

I used to drink tap water but fell out of that habit. I’ll grab a bottle of water once in a while or to take in the car.

I used to drink a LOT of beer. Now it’s mostly tea and some coffee. Sometimes red grapefruit juice.

Having to get up at 1:30am and/or 3:30am to pee each night makes evening drinking risky. 🤣
