I no longer do anything illegal, now that I live in a legal state, so I'm leaving in identifiable stuff. And the statute of limitations is up in North and South Carolina, where i had the same license plate.

Yes, dirt is my life. This was during the pandemic, when all of a sudden, everyone wanted to build a new home, and they needed soil evaluations for septic systems. My clients don't care about me freezing to death, in case you were wondering.

BTW, if you live in NW Ohio and need a septic system, you WILL be calling me -- either right off the bat or AFTER you had your land evaluated by one of my competitors, and wanted it to be done right this time.

Keep in mind:

  • Owls have sharp, hooked things.
  • They also squirm, flap and writhe.
These are not features I desire in TP. Besides, you can't owl someone's house.

Not really much of a victory imo. The old days of "if its getting gas its gotta run" are gone

Its so technical and specialized today that being "handy" isnt enough anymore. Its bean 24 years since i combined my last corn crop and just 24 short years ago i had to drive that combine.

Our family farm is long gone but a friend still does seed corn leases thousands of acres and hire a team a combined at harvest - subs out most tasks - my how farming has changed .

Shit these days thats no easy feat...we just bought (well in 7 years of payments we will have) a 2023 model car, first actually new car Ive ever bought...and that damn thing has so many sensors just the wiring diagram is like 400 pages of multifold out pages. Anything they making now....the age of the home garage mechanic are ending. Hell even the 70 firebird Im building....my generation could be the last one that even gets to hot rod...unless you got mountains of money. The old parts that used to be plentiful in junkyards and swap meets are long gone, and when you do find them, they are boatloads of money. Ill likely have...god I don't even want to think about how much money it will take to restore my firebird....lll likely have to put 80k into it to make it worth 50k lol and thats with me doing all the metal work. I was talking with the local resto shop when I dropped in my fenders to be acid dipped, and hes got a 72 trans am they are building for a client, hes got 200k into it now and he didnt have to do much rust repair. They straight up said a car as rusted as mine they wouldnt take on anymore as no one is willing to pay that hours it would take on top of the cost of all the parts these days. And Im not talking making a nascar or drag car. IDK how average joe could even afford to have a hobby funny car or take something to the track - talking much deeper pockets. wow that was a ramble!

It's why I like Jeeps. If you cant find a part you need just make it out of something else. I had shit from about 6 different cars from 5 different decades in mine lol.

I have a Gladiator and it's even easier to take apart and work on than my CJ7 was. Some car manufacturers do get it, not many.

Not a cheap hobby for sure well over a hundred in this one love those second gen fire birds it will be worth it in the end !

Lmao that’s cuz at one point they bought parts from whoever they could ! Lol might be a gm motor and Chrysler drivetrain ? Some of those old jeeps are crazy reliable others awill need to be worked on .

What is interesting about that is the very last CJ7s are some of the most desirable because they used superior Dana and Tremec light duty truck stuff when they ran out of AMC parts. That's actually what I was looking for when I bought it.

I have never owned a new vehicle. Well, when I was young, I got a 1983 Yamaha Seca 550 new in 1985.
The newest vehicle I have owned is 2012.
The idea of a computer controlling your complete car send thoughts of walking long distances through my mind.
I am no gear head and if possible do not even change my own oil, but when the time comes and I can save a couple hundred bucks I'll do brakes, alternator and maybe even a water pump.
Life was so much simpler once upon a time.
When I look under the hood of newer cars I just think it owns you. Not the way I want to spend my money.

My parents - ground up , frame off resto driver new crate motor disc on all fours ect. Factory reworked - all orig colors - larger aluminum radiator. List goes on - as close to origal as possible . And still have a comfortable cruise - parents prolly put close to 8/10000 miles a year on her! Lots of best in show trophies . And it just one of those hobbies that continues to be costly every time ya drive ! Lol there’s $2000 just in tires that get replaced almost yearly . Also has cutouts so it can at least sound like a bad ass

First new vehicle i bought was in 1994, a john deere 9500 combine because jd had a 2 year interest free finance program. Sold that one for more than we bought it for, same program going on so we bought another and did it again. Lol

Wish i could change my water pump. I have always been able to do that but the smart engineers at ford decided to put it in the motor on my taurus . Its starting to weep out of the hole so i have a 1500 bill coming soon. At least its leaking outside the motor and not into the inside. Why put that in the motor when you know its going to fail at some point?

yea, ford is and was always my least favorite. every single ford Ive owned has been a total basket case. Had a f250 that on a trip to utah the trans blew, then had one their shitty f150s that the spark plugs are notorious for stripping in the head, had it happen on 7 of 8 plugs, sold it non running. And had a 61 f100 step side I was working on restoring to flip, just needed a motor and some body work, dropped in a new 302 and under 3k miles it blew a piston thru the block big enough to put a hand thru. Only good deal on a ford Ive ever had was a I bought a old ladies 60 ford f250 with 3 gas tanks. It was her deceased husbands toy....she had no idea, and to be fair, I didnt know how valuable the motor was. She sold it to me 500 bucks, all 3 gas tanks where full. That was down in Sacramento when I lived in cali still and gas was like 450 a gallon, so the joke was I bought the gas and the truck came free. You couldn't TOUCH the gas without it burning rubber even on the highway. No power steering, no power brakes, long bed truck...and I worked downtown sac at the time. Was a bitch to drive and park in city parking. Ended up having a random dude in a parking lot tell me the motor was a cobra jet.he wanted to buy it but I had to research it first....Ended up being a Super cobra jet 4 bolt main block with some serious money put into the rotating assembly and Dove C heads. Sold just the motor to the guy a bit later for 2k, and sold the truck to my work at pick n pull for 750 in scrap. only time I've ended up right-side on a ford.

I like the old cord trucks - that 61’ f100 would be neat to have right now trucks are hot - I’m also a 60 and 70 dodge fan used to truck pull(at county fairs and back roads a 76 power wagon - drug plenty of fords down dirt roads with that old girl !

Yea, by todays pricing I stole that f100. Paid under a grand and drove it off. Was from the orginal owners family. The dad had passed, and bought it new. He used it for work to fill vending machines. Was some minor rust issues in the doors and under the utility boxes and under badging on the hood. But was a cali truck its whole life, so pretty solid. nothing like my firebirds rust lol
 
and yea, the power wagons are excellent trucks. I had three that I bought at the McLerran AFB by me in sac when they closed under clintons presidency. . They were practically giving them away. got them all proper then sold them. the nicest one I drove for quite a while by my standards (I don't generally keep cars long, I have some fun and move on. (Aries short impulsive attention span)

While a lot of that is true, hot rodders reputations are built on "making it work".

Yeah, a lot of todays cars are run with sensors but the same basic ideas still apply although now you have a computer to keep everything inside the guard rails.

A family friend gave me a 1998 Ford Escort wagon since they had upgraded their car and didn't want the hassle of selling it off. The car was junk in their eyes. When it arrived it was a run down grocery getter. After a drive train swap, 5 foot paint job and a few parts I found at my local yards I was able to build a fun little cruiser that I could fart around town in.

I'm used to working on old small blocks so not only were there 4 cylinders missing but the engine had a bunch of sensors on it. After playing with it I realized it's the same shit but with an electronic babysitter connected to it!

Jeff I hear you. When I was 15 I worked for Midget and Sprint Car Chassis building shop. There were guys back then running Midgets out of their garage and they were competitive. That was about 41 years ago. I was watching a documentary on the Chili Bowl and they mentioned the cost of a Toyota for the midgets today are 60k just for the motor. Part of what is crazy to me is most of these national racing associates (Nascar, NHRA, USAC) are trying to put rules in place to limit the cost of stuff but it seems to not really do anything.

originally bought the rebel for my lady to learn to ride on. she scared the shit outta herself, and gave up that endeavor, so now i just terrorize the neighborhood on it. the pic doesn't show the slip-on. apparently i don't take many pictures of it lol. have had the WRX for about five years now. I have a bunch more go fast bits in the garage, just need a handful more supporting mods to get everything installed and tuned for.

in college i almost bought one of these, but picked up an 88 camaro RS instead. that 2.8L v6 was marginally better than a paperweight but damn was that car a great cruising car. slow af, but comfortable to drive for hours on end.
